Swimming pool build

We are so considering a move out of London, to Kent. We’d like to have an outdoor pool built in the grounds. Any idea how much this would cost and how long it would take?

Just ring around. Will depend on size and other factors

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 29/09/2026 13:55

Mine cost a similar amount to my stables but less than my diamond tiara. Hope that helps.

BIWI · 29/09/2026 13:55

What's your AIBU?

Backtothey2k · 29/09/2026 14:02

About £80,000 but depends on size , material etc

GamingIsNotForLosers · 29/09/2026 14:03

Yes about 9 weeks and €75,000.

This is a crazy question because it depends on size, spec, heated or not heated, stainless steel liner, open air or within a building.

You'd be better off asking AI with your rough spec or calling a pool company.

It's like asking 'we want to build a building, how much will it cost?' A heated shed is a wildly different from an 8 bedroom house.

Shatenoeuf · 29/09/2026 14:31

Couple of months, 100k assuming in ground not above. Depends tho on:

  • size
  • type (liner, tiled etc)
  • heating system
  • groundworks - is it empty flat land ready to go?
pinkspeakers · 29/09/2026 14:36

The structure of our old pool needed rebuilding. No heater, pump, landscaping or even liner (I don't think). That was going to be 40-50k. DH ended up doing it himself.

VainAbigail · 29/09/2026 14:38

Why on earth would you ask that question here? weird

ThePeppyOpalScroller · 29/09/2026 14:53

About 80k to 100k. If you use it once a day, for a whole year, each swim would cost you about £230 . . .

Yeah . . .

Yeah . . .

Plus the ongoing maintenance costs...

GasPanic · 29/09/2026 15:04

Maybe consider a moat instead ?

That way you can keep the undesirables out and have a place to swim as well.

Plus you can go round and round without end rather than having to do flips.

Ablondiebutagoody · 29/09/2026 15:06

I would go for a more natural swimming pond style

Yeah . . .

Or if 4 people use it for 125 days each summer, thats 500 swims a year, 5000 in a 10 year period. £25 a swim

Thats if you have ground source heat pump & top spec cover to heat it efficiently & keep it warm.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/09/2026 15:59

My friend just had a swimming pond put in, still cost £60k

DahliaDelights · 29/09/2026 16:00

Google is also on the internet, its really helpful to search these types of questions, it can help you to find pool installers and all other types of useful helpful information. 👍

unsync · 29/09/2026 16:48

If you can, a swimming pond would be lovely and done well, would be a lovely addition. It would probably be a good reselling point too, I'm not sure that swimming pools are anymore. There are lots of lovely examples on Insta.

crackerjackbaby · 29/09/2026 20:01

Thanks everyone who replied with a helpful answer (and lol at the jealous ones 😂). Asked Mumsnet for real people answers, and popped in AIBU for traffic. I have asked AI, and also been helpful- lots of things we need to consider. It’s telling me about £100k which seems to be roughly what you lovely (well, the non bitter and jel) folk are saying xx

I know we've had a good summer but this is still the UK.

Lifeomars · 29/09/2026 20:40

Loads and loads and loads and then some more. The only person i ever knew with a swimming pool was my (by marriage) rock star relative and the only living thing that used it was his dog!

If you could afford a swimming pool, had the space for one, had a family who loved swimming, experienced the uk getting warmer and warmer every year, I’m sure you’d still say it wasn’t worth it.. 100% 😂

I know what you mean about the fear of not using it enough - but we do love swimming, and even if we use it for a few months of the year, why not?

9 weeks wow that’s longer than I’d thought- is it a concrete one?
