AIBU to ask for one weekly lie-in with the baby?

partner thinks I’m being unreasonable because I’ve asked for a long lie one day a week on his days off, he barely helps with baby during night I could count on one hand and exclusively pump reason was so he could help.
but since baby has been born he’s had all the long lies and said he might get more sleep than me but doesn’t mean it’s better
baby wakes every 1.5hrs after the first 4 hour stretch and I can’t go to bed then as have an older child also, I’m exhausted every single day he also gets 2 hrs uninterrupted sleep in mornings before he goes to gym also then work later on in day

Show him this thread Op. See if anything sinks in.

He is a amazing dad it’s just the more sleep, he thinks because he works he needs it more basically

Amazing dad who lets the mother struggle as he is more important? Great example to kids. An amazing dad who appears to do nothing for the baby. Come on OP. Raise your standards.

ScaredButUnavoidable · 29/09/2026 11:16

Yeah, he sounds like an amazing dad.

What an amazing example he is/will be setting to the children with regards to how men should respect and treat women, especially women they supposedly love, and how to share the responsibility of home life and parenting. Your kids sound really lucky to have him in their life, almost as lucky as you are 🙄

Come on OP. Open your eyes. You can’t be this blind surely?

He’s a misogynistic selfish twat who really doesn’t give a damn about your needs or your well-being.

Why on earth do you think this kind of ‘partner’ is all you deserve in life?!

He doesn’t help with house work but that’s fine but he is an amazing dad other wise and older son isn’t his but you would never know he’s been a step dad to him for around 5 years it’s just around the who’s more tired and it’s always him, I tell him I’m exhausted and you can tell by looking at me but he needs his sleep more apparently

It’s not okay in this day and age, for me now my partner would have to be the main or sole earner. We also need to stop calling many of these men ‘amazing dads’.

Backing what others said about taking it in turns to have a lie in.

When I read these posts I'm feeling even more thankful for my dh who not only takes over or dives in once in from work with the 5 kids, four under five but let's me lie in Saturday and Sunday as he usually gets up at 4am for work so getting up at 7 is his lie in lol. But never had to ask for help just automatically fell into it

That is great, but it should be considered the norm. Plus I don’t see why he shouldn’t dive in if he made 5 kids.

yes but YOU need it
and he is ignoring your need
this is so upsetting
to read
and he sleeping before the gym!!
you need to get tough with him stand up for yourself
don't just accept it

Exactly! He kept his job/career, got his gym too to go to, so look and feel good, but can’t give one lie in.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/09/2026 14:21

‘Amazing dads’ just seem to be borderline adequate mum-level.

My DH, who I would consider a good man and a good dad, does housework, always gave lies in, loves and supports me, couldn’t do the first years night wakings (BF) so did all the years after.

And you do all the work of exclusively pumping for this? Fuck that.

AzureFinch · 29/09/2026 14:23

You need to take turns end of. If he means just walk out and get yourself a hotel for the night and leave him to it

Don17 · 29/09/2026 15:59

Why do men seem to think because they work they need more sleep? What because keeping a small human alive isn’t work? Fml. They say women will always remember how they were treated when they were most vulnerable.

These posts drive me crazy

The baby is a joint responsibility and your need for sleep is equally as important as his

Therefore on a weekend you should both get a lie in!

If he refuses tell him you will check into a hotel for a night

This!

Daisymail · 29/09/2026 17:08

No "amazing dad" would leave you feeling exhausted.

TheLadyGardening · 29/09/2026 17:15

He doesn’t help with housework.
He doesn’t get up in the night with the baby.
He doesn’t give you a lie in, ever.

You are delusional, he’s not a good dad.
He may not be abusive, he may even be a little Disney dad, but he’s not kind or considerate.

IndysMamaRex · 29/09/2026 17:52

OP you’re not asking him you are telling him this is what you NEED. You need to be able to function & 1 day a week is a very small thing. Personally if he said no I’d be telling him to leave

CoffeThenMaybe59 · 29/09/2026 20:09

What a knob.
Note down every time you wake with the baby and how long you’re up for to compare to his full night of no get ups. Most men need it in black and white to actually have any understanding. If not, leave baby with him when he rolls out of bed and go back upstairs for a nap! Preach safety to him too - not safe you falling asleep while holding little one because you’re so exhausted. Absolutely stop doing all the housework too. He needs to pick up the slack somewhere. It’s all good saying he’s a great dad but that extends to cleaning up after them, doing their washing etc too so he’s great at being a Disney dad by the sounds of it but not the nitty gritty of running a family home.
I breastfed but DP still woke to do nappy changes before I fed and I had weekends to lie in while he got up with the kids. Now they both sleep through, we have one lie in day each on a weekend.

Tell you what, he can take a few days off work to look after both kids whilst doing the night wakes too with no lie in. Sure he'd change his tune pretty quick.

It’s not a favour. He’s the child’s parent.
I wish you would stop popping up everywhere promoting your silly app under the guise of offering advice

And it’s not good advertising to say your wife had to build an app just to get some help from ypu
