On holiday at a holiday park with evening entertainment, the entertainment staff tried to get me on stage as they had randomly decided to pick me, I said no, they kept on and on before telling my daughter to get me or I obviously didn’t love her.
I made it clear I did not want to go on stage and then he asked my daughter my name before getting the audience to chant my name to go.
This is kids entertainment and although the children were asked to grab a parent, many didn’t and I really didn’t like the humiliation.

Presumably the fact she didn’t want to get up on stage… She’s allowed to say no!

She says she takes part when she can.

She could, so what stopped her?

I wouldn’t go anywhere remotely like that. I thought everyone knew to avoid such hell holes

Can you tell us where you DO go, so I can avoid it and you?

Kids don't necessarily want to see their kids go up on stage. I wouldn't mind going up, but my kids would both die with embarrassment now and when they were younger they would have been distressed to be seperated from me like that. This stuff should be voluntary or it is not fun.

Absolutely embarrassing for older children but primary school children love it.

Take part in school activities yes, on stage performance, not so much.

Oh bloody hell thats a bit much

No it's not.
The OP didn't want to perform. The entertainers should have moved on to someone else.

HildaGribblethwaiteLives · 28/09/2026 17:24

@Swanned

She didn't want to. Doesn't matter if it's a cup of tea, a walk in the park or a biscuit. She said no. No means no.

Do you not understand the word "no"?

MalcolmTent · 28/09/2026 17:24

Swanned · 28/09/2026 17:12

What stopped you then?

Jesus, leave her alone! She doesn't have to get up on stage if she doesn't want to.

PatchNotes · 28/09/2026 17:26

You’re not a spoilsport. You didn’t give in and do something you didn’t want to do because of peer pressure. You should be proud and your daughter should be proud of you too.

Weeellokthen · 28/09/2026 17:27

That's bloody shocking. A female kids entertainer pestered me during the summer in Spain.
No, means no.

WhiteFramesandPlanes · 28/09/2026 17:33

I would have absolutely hated this

Try not to be so childish.

Try not to be so childish.

Nothing childish about wanting to avoid twats 🤷‍♀️

TheWonderhorse · 28/09/2026 17:40

Oh OP, if you go to those places then you have to be prepared. If you won't do the stupid stage performance then you have to accept the fallout. How can you not know the rules? 🤣

Sit at the back and if they seem to be looking at you then go to the toilet.

Perhaps avoid Mumsnet then if you think women are twats.

It's ok to ask or suggest, but at the first sign of "no", they should move on.

They were very rude and inappropriate, there are plenty of reasons why you would refuse, none of their business, and because you don't want to is enough anyway

Topseyt123 · 28/09/2026 17:53

Swanned · 28/09/2026 16:56

Did you always opt out of the annual mum’s race at sports day too?

Spoil-sport!

Kids like to see their parents involved.

I never did the parents' race at school sports day. Many others didn't either.

Our children don't seem to have suffered for it and I don't give a shit if anyone else thinks I am a spoilsport.

OP, I hope you walked out. Complain about this, both verbally to the management and in writing. It was bullying, and it was totally unacceptable that this arse used your child to get at you.

AvengingAngle · 28/09/2026 17:58

That's awful, OP. I think I'd have walked out when they didn't accept my initial refusal.

she didn’t want to. End of.

queenofthewild · 28/09/2026 18:33

This is why I refuse to go anywhere with enforced jolliness. I’m amazed that this is still a thing. The entertainment staff have no idea if the person they are picking on has hidden disabilities that prevent them from joining in.

MalcolmTent · 28/09/2026 17:21

Sure. Sandals Barbados.

Electricsausages · 28/09/2026 19:48

I bet if the OP said that she went on stage even though she really didn’t want to and felt stupid at the things she had to get involved in everyone would be saying
“ why didn’t you put your big girl pants on”
”why didn’t you use your words and say no”
”no is a complete sentence “
and any if the other MN phrases
she didnt want to participate
end of

MellonFellon · 28/09/2026 19:50

No means no.

No way in hell I would go up on a stage, if you enjoy it, by all means carry on. If someone says no, move the fuck on and don't be a dick.

MadellineBellPictureMeGoneNS · 28/09/2026 19:51

Christ that reads as though it was pontins/Butlins in the 60s/70s
What a prick.
