Neighbour’s car ruining neighbourhood

Would love to know what you all think of this. We live in a lovely little street, we all take pride in our homes. There is no off-street parking unfortunately. Recently an older man (early sixties?)left his car next to an embankment which faces our homes. The problem is, his car had broken down on a busy street and had to be towed somewhere. This was about three weeks ago. The man has been trying to fix it himself and has sometimes had the front grille off and even jacks under the front of the car (all wheels are on). A few of us have challenged him about it. One neighbour has explained that it looks unsightly and none of us here fix our cars in the street. His car is noticeably older than most in our street. His answer has been that there was no space for it to be left in his own road around the corner when the recovery vehicle rescued him. Three of us have challenged him. We asked him if he was even from our neighbourhood, as it’s just not done here! The latest time he got quite angry and said he was doing his best and was waiting for a part to arrive. We all feel he should get a garage to tow it away and fix it there. We have checked online and his vehicle is taxed, insured, and has a MOT. The repair he is attempting involves his getting under the car, but no noise involved, which is something I suppose! A few of us want to call the police about him. Three people have told him already that it’s unsightly with the grille removed, so he’s already been warned!

You and your neighbours sound like arseholes.

Hth.

You should probably ask for this to be deleted, it's quite outing. I can tell that you're from Royston vasey

WorsethingshappenatC · 27/09/2026 18:20

Maybe all the residents of the " lovely little street" could have a whip round to raise some money to pay for the man to get his car fixed at a mechanics garage.

It's a local street for local cars

While not causing a nuisance as such, we feel three weeks is too long to have the car parked there. It has even been left over night with the grille taken off. Yes he did say he wanted to repair it himself and “was doing his best”. One of the neighbours advised that “doing his best” would be getting it towed to his own street round the corner!

WTF has the age of the car got to do with it? It’s bringing the street down because it’s not a 26 plate?

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/09/2026 18:26

Snobby post

Is this a joke? Leave the man and his car be!

Sounds like Margot from "The Good Life".

Thr33lions · 27/09/2026 18:30

Call the police and say what?

If it’s insured, taxed, MOT’d then he’s got as much right to be there as anyone else.

If you want to own a street then buy a street. Don’t buy a piddly bit of land and then pretend you own a street.

So are you and the lovely little street gang up for doing a collection to pay for the car repairs or not?

Theres nothing you can do. Leave him alone or just count down the days until the MOT or tax run out

Have you or anyone else on your street offered any help by the way?

BerryTwister · 27/09/2026 18:31

Reverse?

DeftGoldHedgehog · 27/09/2026 18:32

My sympathies. For a while we had a bashed up Reliant Robin then a fucking actual tractor parked outside our house. People thought it was ours but it was a neighbour across the road. Felt like I was in an episode of Keeping Up Appearances. Neither vehicle has made a return recently, phew.

Whaleandsnail6 · 27/09/2026 18:32

You all sound so snobby and petty minded I hope he leave it there for the next 6 months with the grille and tyres off with a mismatched paint job.

Leave the poor bloke alone. He's not doing anything wrong

5682Jhd · 27/09/2026 18:33

Hands down the most ridiculous post ive ever read. Get a life op, it’s a car and it shouldn’t be affecting you in anyway.
I’d love to know what you think the police are going to do. They’re more likely to tell you and your neighbors to leave the guy alone!

FrogsAtDawn · 27/09/2026 18:35

I bet he wishes he wasn’t part of that neighbourhood after speaking to you…

Chucklebunnie · 27/09/2026 18:35

‘It’s just not done here’

awesome 😁

Unknown127 · 27/09/2026 18:37

Where do you live so I can come and park my 2000 plate Honda outside ?

CommentHere · 27/09/2026 18:37

You have little to be worried about. Leave him and his car alone.

Smallpoxy · 27/09/2026 18:39

Oh poor you how awful! Oh wait - not.

DolefullySingingMotherfucka · 27/09/2026 18:39

Can't be a really naice neighbourhood if there is no off-street parking, dahling.

Electricsausages · 27/09/2026 18:39

His car is better than a bloody big blue truck that keeps appearing and disappearing
