Why do TUI keep.usimg Ryanair and easyJet for their flights? They've got their own planes
This dosent happen with Jet 2.😏

That isn’t true. You can check in to a Ryanair flight online 24 hours before scheduled take off.

I mean physically at the airport. I do the online check in. But they don’t allow you to check your cases in 2 hours before the flight. It’s too much of a rush at my local airport. Can’t be arsed with Ryanair tbh. Certainly wouldn’t fly with them for a family holiday.

I hate Jet2 with a passion.

Why?

That’s because they actively don’t want you to take hold baggage, it adds to turnaround time. If you booked a package luggage would be included in the deal regardless of which airline flew you.

The time limit on bag drop is often just a method of reducing the number of bags that need held airside/occasionally reducing the number of passengers loitering airside/reducing the costs associated with sub-contractor check-in staff.

TBH if there is a limit it often down to the airport more than the airline.

Even some of the legacy carriers have a "not before" limit of as little as two hours at some airports they serve.

I regularly cruise with P&O and Cunard they both charter TUI to fly passengers to and from ports. It’s a relatively straightforward deal for TUI as they get a guaranteed full plane of passengers all going to the same accommodation (boat).

I can imaging TUI substituting a Jet 2 or RA flight on scheduled routes to guarantee the TUI flight for P&O.

I may be wrong but I don't think people are talking about substituting in the sense that a wet lease is used to cover shortages - that's usually a specialist job done by the likes of operators (known as ACMIs) like Titan.

What seems to be bugging people is they're booking puts them on e.g. Ryanair right from the outset.

I'm not sure that hold luggage is automatically included in most package holidays these days. Often the basic package is flight and hotel with everything else 'customisable' ie charged extra. Then you can choose what sort of transfer, luggage, seat etc you need, usually for a cost, which has the advantage to the tour operator of making the holiday look cheaper than most people end up paying, because they add on the extras.

I'm also not sure if it's true that Ryanair want to discourage hold luggage as it's cheaper to put 10 kg in their hold than it is to take it in the cabin. I've just booked a flight with them and will be checking a bag because it's cheaper and there's no size limit (my case is Jet2 size which is bigger than Ryanair size). This will also free me from liquids limits and having to drag it through security, onto the plane and finding space in the overhead locker.

Depends on the company. It is with the sort of traditional/full service package holiday models like Jet2, Easyjet and Tui if on their own planes. You get a massive allowance included then!

The ones where you put together a package of different components yourself and it sort of comes under their umbrella like OTB charge you separately for it.

What I am theorising is that cruise itineraries are planned 2+ years in advance, change over days are known. For example TUI flies London to Barcelona every day but on Friday’s they allocate those flights to Cunard and substitute Ryanair etc. So if you book a flight with TUI London to Barcelona on a Tuesday you get TUI but on a Friday Ryanair.

Ah OK, makes sense.

I don’t care about the reason. I’ve booked a package with love holidays and taken a Ryanair flight. It was 2 hours before we could check our suitcases in. That’s not for me. I like a nice glass of something whilst I chill for a bit, I don’t want to be rushing, therefore Ryanair isn’t for me.

MyRareScroller · 29/09/2026 09:08

I’d never fly with Ryanair. My personal feelings are that their inclusion degrades the TUI brand.

Same. I don't want to go on a budget airline where everyone is carting suitcases onboard.
You can filter holiday search for TUI only flights.
It also makes a difference if you want TUI flex (you can change departure date or hotel) , it's only available for holidays with TUI flights. It's something I've used several times and well worth the little bit extra imo.

LlynTegid · 29/09/2026 21:58

I don’t want to use an airline whose CEO calls anyone rapist and diminishes the crime. Even though he has reluctantly apologised.

imcomingforya · 29/09/2026 22:05

Airline snobs are so funny.

If you’re flying TUI, you’re not going to be getting the really worthwhile experiences of first class on legacy carriers.

All TUI gives you is an extra couple of cm of baggage space for you to shove all your shite into.

I get an extra hour in the airport if I fly with TUI. I didn’t even have time to fart when I flew with Ryanair. That’s fine if I’m going for a weekend piss up with my mates to Dublin, but when I go on a family holiday that extra hour is worthwhile. I’m not after luxury.

Whereas I don’t want to hang around an airport for an extra hour to get what’s essentially a flying bus. The less time I’m there the happier I am.

But two hours really wasn’t enough time. My local airport security queue mid August takes a long time. I appreciate people want to spend less time at the airport, but we had to run to the gate that day, and that’s not my idea of fun.

Not had that in all the time I've used them. Have you then?

Jet2 use many other other airlines for additional capacity in their busy months, or because of delays in the delivery of new planes, and although the flights will always operate with a Jet2 flight number it won’t be always be a Jet2 plane or crew. The usual suspects to operate contacted-out flights are Titan Airways, ETF Airways, AirExplore and, I think, Hi Fly.
