AIBU to wonder why TUI uses Ryanair and easyJet flights?

Why do TUI keep.usimg Ryanair and easyJet for their flights? They've got their own planes
This dosent happen with Jet 2.😏

Easyjet are fine from my experience, I will never fly with Ryanair after they changed the days of my flight one Christmas, leading to me having to cancel

EarlofShrewsbury · 27/09/2026 09:00

You can filter for tui airways only flights.

I recently booked Spain for next year and if I flew from Manchester it was with tui but from Liverpool it was Ryanair.

Aposterhasnoname · 27/09/2026 09:08

Well it’s not rocket science is it.

Tui have a certain number of planes, and a certain number of crew. They simply cannot fly to every destination, every single day, but people want flexibility in their holidays.

Plus there’s this little known issue called climate change. Apparently it’s far better for the planet, not to mention cheaper, if you just send one full plane out rather than two half empty ones.

StripyHorse · 27/09/2026 09:32

Offering more than 1 flight provider means there are more flights options to choose from. There is a really simple solution - scroll past those flights and choose the TUI flight. If they don't have one that matches and it is a big deal for you, look at another holiday that does have TUI flights.

TickedOffAndALittleFedUp · 27/09/2026 09:37

Hate to break it to you @Netcurtainnelly but Jet2 also use third party airlines when they don't have enough of their own to cover flights. Tui are a huge European company with a U.K. fleet as part of it but there is no way they could cover everything with their own crew and planes.

Dr13Hadley · 27/09/2026 09:39

We’re off to Turkey with TUI in October. Flights are with TUI going out and were meant to be coming back as well. We booked it as it had reasonable timed flights.
Recently got an email saying we were returning with EasyJet (funnily enough just after we’d paid the final amount) and now the flight is in the middle of the night. Buggers up the next day completely. Luckily it’s on the Sat night rather than the Sunday otherwise the DC would have missed school the next day. It’s irritating.

Clearinguptheclutter · 27/09/2026 09:50

As well as being able to offer more destinations it means they can offer holidays from more uk airports without buying extra planes which wouldn’t be utilized well enough in winter

btw although jet 2 don’t use Ryanair/easyjet they do contract out other random airlines to run their flights (with a jet 2 flight number). So it does not mean your flight will be operated by jet 2. Same reasoning, it makes sense to use 3rd parties at peak times rather than buying planes which will be parked up most of the winter

ACynicalDad · 27/09/2026 09:51

If they can fill a plane on a major route for them then use their planes, if they have limited numbers this gives more options.

Somethinggg · 27/09/2026 09:58

My guess is we might see more of this as people get keener on doing their travel via packages. Unless things calm down a bit, but it's not going that way is it?

CrushingOnRubies · 27/09/2026 10:06

So that they can offer holidays from more local airports? I’d rather fly Ryan air than fly from an airport 200/300 miles away just to use a tui plane to get to the same destination.

Somethinggg · 27/09/2026 10:28

Yeah I suspect for many people there comes a point where, if they want/need to go to a particular destination, the inconvenience of having to go to a different departure airport outweighs Ryanair being shit. Obviously there's others who would still find changing to be the preferable option too.

If I go on the Jet2 website I've only ever seen jet2 flights advertised.

Yes that’s right, but what happens is you get an email out of the blue telling you that an airline you will never have heard of are operating the route you’re going on.

Not had that in all the time I've used them. Have you then?

Tui are hardly a luxury experience. I've flown Ryanair loads of times, they're absolutely fine and excellent value for money.

If you want to stick with a Tui flight, you'll just have to limit your choice to their routes.

Saxendi · 27/09/2026 14:25

That was what I said in my post, a third party airline flying the route both ways.

I have twice. A jet 2 flight number does not mean a jet 2 actually plane

annaspanner18 · 27/09/2026 16:11

We paid a small fortune for a Tui holiday, which included a Sun Express flight. It was pretty poor tbh and I’d look to avoid it where possible in future.

TickedOffAndALittleFedUp · 28/09/2026 07:45

When you book at Tui holiday online it tells you who is operating the flight before you book it. Sometimes the same holiday will have several flight times and some will be Tui, others third party airlines. You just have to pick the one you are happy with re flight time and cost. Occasionally flights are switched for other reasons but generally if it's scheduled for Tui it will be.

Surely luggage is on the same basis regardless of which airline is used if it’s a package deal. Quite honestly for a 2/3 hour flight I don’t care which airline it is. You’re not on the plane for long enough for it to matter.

Ryanair don’t allow you to check in until 2 hours before the flight. So we nearly missed our flight last time we flew with them because of the security queues. Was stressful. Wouldn’t bother flying with them again - at least with jet 2 or tui I can arrive 3 hours before and relax with a drink or something.

I mean third world problems and all that.

MyRareScroller · 29/09/2026 09:08

I’d never fly with Ryanair. My personal feelings are that their inclusion degrades the TUI brand.

That isn’t true. You can check in to a Ryanair flight online 24 hours before scheduled take off.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 29/09/2026 09:12

People on their high horse about not using Ryanair 😆 I fly to Dublin about 20 times a year from Stansted and never have issues at all and it so cheap.

i usually manage with hand luggage and 2 kids solo - sometimes we check a 10k bag - flights always WAAAAAY more expensive with ba or aer lingus and tbh these airlines aren’t even better anymore these days

FrogsLoveRain · 29/09/2026 09:24

HisNibs · 26/09/2026 18:46

Yep but for me, as soon as I see RuinAir as the flight provider, I scroll on by. I will never give O'Leary a penny of my money.

DH is that you?

Same here. I wasn't allowed to use Ryanair for a work trip to Dublin due to someone's pointless snobbery. So I went on Aer Lingus, which cost my employer more. The flight was also delayed 2 hours, meaning I was late for a meeting, when the Ryanair flight scheduled at more or less the same time was on time.

I'm going to Spain with RA next month for less than £100 return, including a 10 kg checked bag both ways. I do find their seats slightly less comfortable than Jet2 and their 'we will give you the middle seat unless you pay' policy is annoying, but they are such excellent value I'm prepared to put up with such minor inconveniences for otherwise excellent cheap travel.
