to think eyebrows don’t NEED to be done

AIBU to think eyebrows don’t need to be ‘done’ beyond some plucking of the monobrow area or some general tidying if you have a lot of hairs?
I recently went to get my nails done for an event and the lady asked if I wanted to sort my eyebrows out too??

surely this is a recent phenomenon of perfect dark eyebrows forced upon women?

Are you this hard work irl?

Thissideof40 · 27/09/2026 13:35

If they’re bushy and there’s a monobrow then even if you’re not into vanity I think a tidy up makes a huge difference to a persons face. Gone are the days of eyebrows being plucked to within a millimetre. If you don’t think they need doing then just politely decline.

ManicMai · 27/09/2026 13:37

I’d like to get mine done, if only they didn’t look so ridiculous.

aliceyyyy2654 · 26/09/2026 14:35

I didn’t say I was deciding what people could do with their faces? I said I don’t think they NEED to be done

Nothing NEEDS to be done. Hair doesn’t NEED to be done. Neither does nails, wearing makeup, body hair removal, pedicures etc. It’s personal preference. Nothing blows my mind though, more than woman judging women for their grooming choices!

honeylulu · 27/09/2026 15:05

Doesn't need to be done but in the same way that other personal grooming choices don't need to be done. We don't technically "need" to get haircuts, or men shave their faces etc but people still refer to "needing a haircut", "needing a shave" etc.

I get my eyebrows done (soft powder effect) because they are almost invisible if I don't and I much prefer the look. I probably do say "i need to make an appointment" once they get a bit faded because that's how I feel. I don't think anyone else needs to do it unless they want to.

TwinklyAmberSloth · 26/09/2026 17:28

Asking someone if they want to sort their eyebrows out too is implying they look like they have catapillars crawling across their face.

So it may be upsetting but it is also really rude!

The OP could have ended up with McDonalds golden arches eyebrows!!

Why take it so personally? Sometimes my eyebrow lady asks if I want anything else doing. I think she once asked me if I wanted my upper lip threading and I just said ‘no thanks’. I didn’t think Oh my God I must have a moustache.

Bigreddog25 · 27/09/2026 19:43

I'd do my eyebrows over anything else on my face. They make SUCH a big difference to the face.

Bigreddog25 · 27/09/2026 20:00

Ive read the thread.

No you don't NEED to get your brows done (the same way you know you don't need to get nails done)
But I'm not sure how asking if you WANT them doing means that everybody NEEDS to get them done.

What's the point in this post?

Well why else would she ask?? You can't tweezers a mustache that isn't there as that would be dishonest...

Nails don’t either but there you go. See. I get both done. Each to their own.

Why the need to clarify that brows need to be “really nicely done” to “enhance” a face?

surely if they are “really nicely done” then they aren’t natural?

nothing wrong with completely natural brows.

don’t you do a single thing to enhance your natural appearance? Use a facial moisturiser? A hairdryer? A bit of lipstick or mascara? Nice clothes in a colour which suits you?

I don’t do any of those things. I brush my teeth though - does that count as enhancing my natural appearance?

Plucking your eyebrows is still 'doing' them. Im late 50s and my eyebrows are getting lighter (Ie greyer) all the time so I get mine dyed (and the odd few hairs removed) every few weeks. It makes a huge difference to my face shape and makes me feel more confident. If you don't need yours doing you're lucky, make the most of it until yours start disappearing too!

aLFIESMA · 28/09/2026 08:56

My ensuite lightbulb needed repacing but I thought I'd managed my make up just fine. Nice morning shopping & coffee shop. Popped into the loo before coming home, looked in the mirror to find lovely fushia lip pencilled eyebrows!
A new trend?

no. Or at least I don’t do it to “enhance”.

i use moisturiser, but to stop my skin feeling dry and tight, not “enhance”

i use a hairdryer, to dry my hair before bed rather than “enhance”. Don’t like a soggy pillow.

i don’t wear make up, ever.

my clothes are all black, and comfort takes priority. I have a couple of coloured tops, but because I simply like the colour, rather than somehow “enhancing” how I look.

it’s just not something I spend time on 🤷‍♀️

Slightyamusedandsilly · 28/09/2026 10:44

It's not a new thing. I first had my eyebrows done about 25 years ago when I had a MUA do my makeup in John Lewis. I hated the overly made up look, but loved the finished eye brows.

NOT that I have overly manicured brows, but I definitely do them everyday. They make a huge different to my face.

well good for you.
Since the dawn of time, women and men too for that matter, have been messing around with tools and ointments to try to enhance their natural
appearance. Anyone who catches a glimpse in the mirror before stepping out the front door cares what they look like. If you choose not to do a thing, that’s your prerogative. But it’s strange to judge others who might spend 5-10 mins a day putting on some lipstick or straightening their hair etc.

theneighbourgotmycake · 28/09/2026 12:06

of course!

People are free to do whatever they want

but nothing wrong in wanting to look the best you absolutely can, and be happy with what you see in the mirror and on photos.

And whether we like it or not, people take you a lot more seriously when you look better. Being physically attractive is proven to give you an advantage at work and in life.

So no need to look down at people who enjoy taking care of their appearance.

show me where I was judging. I was asked if I do any of that, I replied.

I’m not the one saying brows need to be “done” to look nice.

i choose not to do any of this. But if others choose to do so, that’s their choice.

i am not looking down on anyone’s choices. Mine are different, and I happen to think I look better natural. Others think differently.

Can I ask if any if you have the absolutely ridiculous brushed up fan like things and if so WHY? 😂

She was just upselling. It's not that deep. 🤷🏼‍♀️

she was, but she was very rude if she said those exact words.

Personally Im the opposite to OP, I groom my eyebrows as its very noticeable if I dont (dark hair) but dont bother with my nails apart from a neat trim.

Are you being purposely obtuse? Or are you feeling so insulted about it that you’re just not thinking clearly?

Your tone implies annoyance because you were asked if you wanted her to sort your eyebrows out. You said eyebrows didn’t ’need’ to be done. The point being made is that very few things ‘need’ to be done, including fingernails, but that lots of women have them done because they want them, and it’s a bit hypocritical to be contemptuous of women having eyebrows done if you’re having your nails done.

perhaps being sniffy about women who want to
enhance their natural appearance, but that was an assumption. I apologise.

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 28/09/2026 14:11

I get nothing done and do often wonder if I'm viewed as having let myself go! I do a quick tweeze at home, I have my hair trimmed every quarter, shave if I get my legs out and that's it. I'm not sure whether it's noticeable or not because I do make effort with my clothes and wear nice make up and otherwise probably look quite done, I just really hate the cost of these extras! I work with my hands so nails never last, my hair is long and in good condition so needs little work and my hair is dark so I don't believe I need any tinting etc. I have friends spending hundreds each month on hair, nails, waxing, pedicures, tinted lashes, tinted eyebrows, eyebrow waxing etc plus most have botox or fillers. I feel like I look ok but maybe I look hideously un-done. Each to their own I think, she probably assumed I'd you're there for one thing then you might want another service on top! I feel like we've been sold it as pampering but I don't really enjoy the treatments and I'd rather buy a latte and a brownie every week as a treat tbh.
