To think that Burnham’s words are going to haunt his premiership?

‘…national security can’t come at the expense of social security…’

His advisors probably hadn’t prepped him to expect her to recycle the same tired, gotcha questions from the week before, TBF.

By far the biggest announcement this week was the sanctions against the illegal settlements, and it beggars belief that the leader of the opposition did not ask a single question about it.

If they didn’t prep him for what you say is a recycled line, then that is a competency issue.

Why do you say that?

"Always comes at the expense of cheap point scoring".

Can we all just agree that its great to see Labour back atop the polls, while the treasonous scamming women beaters of Reform "UK" are probably off to prison?

Should be the death sentence for Farage IMHO, but I'd settle for deportation.

Now, thinking specifically about your own constituency, if there were a general election held tomorrow and these were the parties standing, which party would you vote for?

I’m not so sure.

Many haven’t forgotten the ‘who do we tax more to pay benefits to others’?

Who said that? 😂

Any socialist - pick one.

I’d forgotten.

People will forget most things in time. The only exception to this is Thatcher.

beencaughttrollin · Today 08:32

What's supposed to be wrong with what he said, now? If you take the personalities and the tribal politics out of it the vast majority of ordinary people would agree that BOTH security and welfare are critical.

I think his eyebrows and eyelashes will haunt more.

I genuinely think that's the sort of thing people base their vote on

Why can’t we have both? National security and social security, why does national security have to be at the expense of social security?

But we can’t afford it all including social care and the cost of housing people
something has to give
we don’t seem to generate money at all. I’d rather we spent more on development and building things again even if it is for défense purposes than just continually paying out for welfare

Defence is boring? Wow.

The way the argument is presented ..thats the problem. Thread after thread of 'we hate the government' dressed up as discussing different issues.

11AndCounting · Today 08:35

Why is it that so many people sign up to Mumsnet just to start a generic whinging thread about Labour?

Multiple every day.

sunshinesuki · Today 08:35

LuckyHazelFox · Today 08:00

First, we were told to give Burnham time, now it's wait for the budget. We know what's coming in the budget - more tax, less growth.

And in the meantime another leaves the sinking ship https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/billionaire-hedge-fund-chris-rokos-leaves-uk-b3046332.html

I think the fact that no one even voted him to lead the party let alone lead the country is the only haunting he needs.

I wish people would stop with this rubbish.
Leaders are elected by the party members. Burnham was appointed leader through the same process as every other party leader.
People vote for the party, not the PM. Perhaps we wouldn't have been in such a mess for the last 10 years if people remembered that.

Because it’s not a site just for Labour voters. There probably are other groups that only have Labour supporters for anyone who wants that.

The same reason they did it about the Tories prior to Labour winning the GE !

I knew he'd monumentally screw up soon, I just didn't think it would be this soon.

Just seems weird that its always a new poster, with little or no meaningful prior Mumsnet activity, is all.

And I did recently see something in the news about foreigners trying to influence British democracy.

Makes you think.

He's spectacularly out of his depth.

We obviously need to cut welfare significantly. Spending is far too high and onky getting higher. The country can't afford it. We are no longer in the top 20 for GDP per capita but are spending like we are in the top three. Those days are gone.

We obviously need to increase defence spending. The peace dividend no longer exists. And all defence experts say it needs to be done urgently.

Labour haven't come up with any way to increase defence spending because they can't grow tbe economy and they can't borrow any more due to the cost of the moron's premium. They seem to be hoping that something will turn up on that front in tne next few months eg an end to the Ukraine war. I suspect thats a risky strategy when it comes to protecting our country.

So AB is trying to play for time. His words jist verbalise what we already knew about the Labour Party. The party of benefits. And thats all that matters. Oh and Gaza.
