Of course he is. New PM old tricks. Starmer's government recognises Palestine as a state and Burnham's imposes sanctions on Israel, who is surrounded by nations wanting to kill them. Labour aren't too good on the old defence strategies.

It was Starmer's own back benchers who created the noise around him and the press went after the vulnerability. Starter did a poor job of managing his own party members, apparentely never meeting them, so they were more than happy to brief the press.

The reality is the choice for PM is weak in all parties because of the MP selection process. Most have never held jobs, only in politics, including Burham.

Blair/Campbell changed the process of MP selection to make Labour electable which worked very well but it's so embedded in all parties that candidates with life experience who can think for themselves are weeded out.

I highly doubt it. It isn’t even on most of the front pages today.

Most people understand that the Prime Minister is right - there isn’t and shouldn’t be a binary choice between defence spending and essential budgets to protect our communities.

The oppositions plan to cut housing benefits by £4bn to fund defence are economically illiterate: making people homeless only costs the tax payer more money in the end. The IFS agree defence spending can’t be funded by cuts alone, because again, all punitive cuts do is cost the taxpayer more money elsewhere.

I don’t really understand why Kemi Bandenoch is going so hard on this - she asked exactly the same questions last week. The Prime Minister was really clear he and the Chancellor are going to increase defence spending. All the opposition have to do is wait until the budget and the strategic defence review and then they can scrutinise the actual plans, rather than this infantile, playground politics.

First, we were told to give Burnham time, now it's wait for the budget. We know what's coming in the budget - more tax, less growth.

No. I think people who are on the edge of their seats wanting him to fail will be quoting him on that, out of context until we're all sick to death of hearing it. Then it'll die down until the next thing they latch on to.
Other people who value welfare services will be relieved to hear that he isn't planning on arbitrary cuts that typically push spend to other services anyway so are false economy, just to appease those braying for people to be made poorer. And presumably plans to fund defence from another source. Which will give them something else to rant about. Because its not enough to fund defence. The obsession is "cut welfare".

Agree. The Gorton and Denton By election was barely a year after the GE. His backbenchers and Labour as a party were plotting away to get rid of Starmer more or less since he won the election. As if the press don't all ' call for the PM to resign every 5 minutes'. They have an enormous majority and they could have faced all of that down if they had stood together. They have no one to blame but themselves if this goes to shit because they have told everyone loud and clear that there is no one, out of the 400 of them that they think is suitable to lead the party. Starmer knew his own party had stabbed him in the back. He blamed them in his resignation speech. He probably couldn't stand to sit there with them any more so resigned.

Can we all just agree that its great to see Labour back atop the polls, while the treasonous scamming women beaters of Reform "UK" are probably off to prison?

As a general point OP, I'm not sure what it would take in this day and age for anything a person does to 'haunt them'. There's been some absolute shockers in behaviour from leaders (which this is not an example of anyway) that tend to be 9 day wonders that people appear able to get past if they support them.
You have people who are dyed in the wool supporters who will conveniently forget or excuse terrible behaviour, that at one time would have been career ending, plus the amplification of minor missteps, the misinformation, misrepresentation, that bombards people, so they take no notice after a while.
Most people will judge on the changes to their day to day lives and actions and events rather than comments, however hard you work to try to make them see it as something that should influence their vote.

By far the biggest announcement this week was the sanctions against the illegal settlements, and it beggars belief that the leader of the opposition did not ask a single question about it.
