In fact it's worse. Because the Billionaire also isn't spending money here if he's fucked off somewhere else. And he's not invested here in jobs either. Someone else is benefiting from this.

So we need to be pragmatic rather than idealistic here.

Believe me I don't particularly like this either but that's the actual problem we need to solve. The solution proposed to increase tax revenue doesn't understand the problem sufficiently to work. We don't magically get more money because we decide to tax that group, because the problem is A. Bit. More. Complicated. Than. That.

How do you propose we keep people in the country? Should we protect HNWIs from tax increases (or in this case, not even increases but uncertainty)? Is it fair to say to those on 100k a year that they’ll pay proportionally more, but those on £100m a year won’t? How many higher rate taxpayers would be on side with that?

Chris Rokos has mansions all over the place and has given generously to art and universities. Maybe he just wants to go back to his roots? He has had a bit of trouble with planning permission in various mansions.

People like Chris Rokos, who paid £330m in income and other taxes last year just leave the UK, and pay tax due to Greece. So 38,000 more taxpayers at 20% are needed to replace the tax lost.

People who have an idea for something new don't start it in the UK because it might not be earned income from a job.

This government totally miss the entrepreneur mindset. They over tax small business too soon, and are terrified by the giants whose turnover is almost as large as GDP.

If I had a new business idea and a plan (I don't, because I am 70) then I would much much much rather have a starting base in the USA than in the UK, and I would be looking at moving to ASIA to start it if I were in the EU and had no other alternatives.

Europe regulates and controls; the USA offers more freedom to try -- and to fail. For entrepreneurs, that really does matter. But if you want to be employed, and know what you are going to be saying on a phone headset all day next Tuesday because there's the script you follow, go ahead.

For the UK's economy to succeed, we need people to take a skid on starting a business whether it's a restaurant or a mine. And If they succeed, even at giddy heights, we need to allow a lot of slack on the costs that are deductible from investment for probably 12 or 15 years.

There's an old adage for anyone who starts a new business:

Year one-- you pay for it.
Year two -- it pays for itself
Year three -- it starts to pay you, if the starting idea was a good one.
