To think that Burnham’s words are going to haunt his premiership?

‘…national security can’t come at the expense of social security…’

Genuine question - I am serious.

Do you get out much? As in, leave your home?

Yes! I am in a hotel lobby at the moment at the start of a lovely countryside minibreak Thanks for asking. How about you?🤗

Phew, that’s good.

(I wont ask why you are MN when you on a ‘lovely countryside minibreak’ but hey. You must have an understanding partner/friend/lover etc.)

I am well, thanks for asking. I say well, but I am profoundly worried about this Labour government (you may have detected that).

I’m sorry that I don’t do emojis or GIFs btw….

Which begs the question, surely.

Why now?

Another poster and I provided facts that answer your question. There has been deeply upsetting behaviour from the settlers and the IDF, which has been carefully documented by and independent commission - Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.

The Israeli security forces kill children with total impunity, and the State of Israel acquiesces to systemic unlawful conduct, not merely isolated misconduct, against Palestinian children. The Commission concludes that the cases it investigated show a consistent pattern of conduct of the Israeli security forces which amounts to the war crime of wilfully causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or health, and, where such conduct led to the deaths of children, it amounts to the war crime of wilful killing.

Right.

Well, I generally don’t believe in coincidences.

I do believe that Starmer deliberately f*cked Burnham, though - standing down as an MP on the same day Burnham became PM.

The Holborn by-election theory stands up.

I’m sure all these countries care passionately about the result of the Holborn by election.

A milestone was reached in relations between Israel and its European allies on Tuesday, September 8, with the joint announcement by the United Kingdom, France and nine European countries (Denmark, Spain, Finland, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Sweden), as well as Canada, of sanctions against products originating from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

You may find it worse if Polanski gets elected?

And how can they tell what goods come from where?
Most will be labelled "Product of Israel".
This will only hurt Arab farmers on the West Bank.
'Noses and faces' here, it seems.

Hopefully Binny will have another stab at it! The Count has got to win at some point in this seemly endless parade of clowns.

That's the thing with this policy it is totally unmonitorable and unenforceable.

No. I think people who are on the edge of their seats wanting him to fail will be quoting him on that, out of context until we're all sick to death of hearing it. Then it'll die down until the next thing they latch on to.
Other people who value welfare services will be relieved to hear that he isn't planning on arbitrary cuts that typically push spend to other services anyway so are false economy, just to appease those braying for people to be made poorer. And presumably plans to fund defence from another source. Which will give them something else to rant about. Because its not enough to fund defence. The obsession is "cut welfare".

Exactly

Possibly, as people can be a bit thick. ‘Social security’ is clearly a much wider thing than ‘benefits’, which I assume you are thinking of.

Indeed. He means the entire social compact , without which there's nothing worth defending.

All these regular posters who start and join thread after thread ranting about the government...are just so interested in politics that they can't stop themselves posting, have absolutely nothing better to do all day every day.. just love the fight..are being paid by outside agencies..?

Perhaps your name should be binnyfortheirony...
