OMG Miriam Margolyes Andi Peters

Temptree · Yesterday 12:16

I've got an annual leave day today and am spending the morning shamelessly on the sofa watching daytime TV with cups of tea and biscuits after an exhausting school summer hols. Kids back at school today. I've given myself permission to vegetate till 3:15pm.
So here I am watching This Morning and have just spent 5 minutes with my jaw wide open and hand over my mouth at what Miriam Margolyes just said to Andi Peters.
Did anyone else see it??
I mean it takes a lot to shock me. I am not easily shocked.
And this woman is currently doing a sell out tour??
Whoah.

I don't think she's a well woman. Her whole 'shtick' seems to involve pretending to be a cute little lady then being all crude and stupid.

For example can she get through an interview without farting or talking about farting or balls?

Discussing skin colour would seem a step too far even for this blithering idiot.

Racism doesn’t get deleted on MN.

I’ve heard far worse on here than anything MM has said.

If it’s a racist slur it would be deleted.

NoEligibilityRequirementsApply · Yesterday 12:40

I can't abide MM. She thinks by saying crude and vulgar things she's funny. She's not. I refuse to watch her after I saw her on on Graham Norton saying to Daniel Radcliffe that his balls had dropped.

Like a PP said- she's crude, and a lech. And not funny. I have no idea why people put up with her tbh.

I don’t know who andI peters is. What exactly was wrong with what she said? She asked him if he was mixed race, and he isn’t? Please explain! Oh ok just saw she said high yella. Is that from Tennessee?

Edited

She described him as high yellow due to his shade of black. I’d not heard it before but google says it is an outdated and derogatory term. - just seen your update

SilenceInside · Yesterday 12:42

I would think that the production company are having an emergency meeting about it and are drafting the apology, if they haven't already done so. Then they need to be reconsidering the wisdom of inviting someone with a known history of saying inappropriate or offensive things onto a live discussion show.

There's being edgy and boundary breaking, and then there's just being racist on live TV.

I agree, I've missed watching many an interesting sounding programme when realising she's in it.

LilacBalloons · Yesterday 12:42

YANBU, that's a totally shocking and inappropriate thing to say. I know MM's style is shock-jockeyish, but it's one thing to be vulgar and another thing entirely to be racist.

NovemberMorn · Yesterday 12:43

I didn't see it, but nothing she says would surprise me.
When I have seen her on chat shows, I always think she is waiting for the best moment to say something she hopes will really shock people, then she acts the innocent.
She is a horrible, little, old lady who should know better.

UnitaBath · Yesterday 12:43

Shes always been vile but I'm sure she believes she can say whatever she wants now shes old and we will all laugh it off and think her funny and quirky. I just think she is an absolute knob-head and about as funny as a migraine.

Gribouille · Yesterday 12:44

Well I hope that's it for MM, she's been unnecessarily and unfunnily offensive for years... I'm no prude but I'm fed up of the leeway we give to 'posh' people in this country, and bullying and racism is never funny...

catinboots26 · Yesterday 12:44

I’m so glad I found this thread - was about to start one myself. She’s an utter judgemental wanker with shit hair that thinks calling people cunts makes her stunning and brave.

Monty36 · Yesterday 12:44

She likes to shock and does it for effect.

ExtraOnions · Yesterday 12:44

She’s an arse, ego makes a living out if being vulgar.

She told Wii.i.am that she didn’t really know any Black People, which for some who works in the Media & Lives in London I think would be highly unlikely.

Maybe the Black people are just avoiding her…

If it’s a racist slur it would be deleted.

A typical racist slur would be deleted but I've seen plenty of racist comments not commented on by other posters and not deleted.
MM appears to have absolutely no filter. There isn't anything remotely funny about what she said.

Uppitymuppity · Yesterday 12:45

I saw it and thought right away that she's obviously going to get some backlash from her comments but she doesn't care because she thinks age somehow makes her exempt from being a dick. I think she knew Andy Peters isn't 'mixed' as she put it and just wanted to ensure she got something controversial in before she was taken off air. She annoys me every time she's in TV and I can't imagine why anyone would watch her on tour.

Marellain · Yesterday 12:45

What a weird term. Interesting though. Where does the yellow idea come from?

Lomonald · Yesterday 12:45

@Temptree my god ! That is just odd, why would she say anything like that, i bet she put on her "American " accent when she said it.

JudgeJ · Yesterday 12:46

Aluna · Yesterday 12:30

At 85 it’s difficult to know if it’s a generation thing or whether she’s hit dementia.

Can't she just be a nasty piece of work irresepective of her age or without 'dementia' being used to try and excuse her?

Why would you think that? An oddly precise guess.

I’d say it’s more likely from the 70’s.

Bzr · Yesterday 12:48

Horrific woman

Whyhaveibeencutoutofmamsnot · Yesterday 12:31

MM is a fantastic actress particularly her Dickens women show but as herself there is too much personal information and foulness.

She was a good actress for many years and I remember her as genuinely funny. Over the last decade she seems to have turned herself into the magic 8 ball of offensive comments - you know there will be one in every interview but you can never guess which.

Temptree · Yesterday 12:49

Also she said "I'm going to Eastbourne after this to visit an old lady. Her daughter has put her in a home and I don't agree with it."
Why would she say this on TV? What about people who are unable to care for an elderly parent? What if they've tried so hard to avoid a care home but ultimately it's the best option? Some people are heartbroken and suffer with terrible guilt about making this decision for their parent.
And presumably this poor daughter, who Miriam shamed on national TV, will know it's her mother that Miriam is visiting in an Eastbourne care home, and is telling the nation she doesn't agree with the daughter's decision and derided her for it.
Then she went on about how we shouldn't be putting ''old people'' in care homes in a very judgemental and condescending/lecturing way.
Wow.
All this in a 7 minute segment!

Her tour is a sell out!! Who'd pay to listen to stuff like this?

It is a colourist derogatory insult. I think it comes from the mix of white and black. I also think it is an Americanism.

Caniweartheseones · Yesterday 12:50

I’m always surprised on mumsnet how little overt racism there is considering how anti- colour and immigration such a large section of Britain is. I like non- racism but I’m always waiting for the “other side’s” opinions to come out .

She's stupid, everyone fawns and enables her awful behaviour.

I hope this latest stunt gets her the boot from chat shows for good.
