I thought I'd misheard and maybe it was 125lbs but no, 105lbs

Seems very tiny but AI tells me that is the usual sort of frame and weight to height ratio for actresses in those days. The actress playing the girlfriend was 5'4 apparently. So slight frame but not underweight

I was a bit surprised it was so low a weight.

When I married in 1970s I was 5ft.5in and weighed 6st 7lb. Underweight but could eat loads, my cousins were the same.

I was 105lbs in my early 20's. No idea why but when we were in the USA visiting relatives I got weighed and clearly remember my relatives howling with laughter as I was 'a buck o five' . I didn't eat huge amounts but I certainly didn't have any eating disorder. I was just very petite. This was in the early 90's & apart from a chippy there were no fast food places where we lived. Most of my friends were a similar build.

I was 5’6” and 104 pounds for a very long time as an adult. People I barely knew at university used to show up at my door with “extra” food. I was not a healthy weight, I was malnourished, partly because of child abuse.

This kind of thinness is not something to be celebrated. We can focus on health, but don’t go to extremes.

But fine to call a 9.5 stone woman fat, eh?

5'10" is on/above the 99th centile for women! Dsis is that height and usually noticeably the tallest woman in the room

I don’t think it’s that weird for an actress of average height.

A lot of people genuinely don’t know heights (and a lot don’t know their own!)

Yep, I know very few women who are 5 ft 10 inches tall - or taller. My very good friend from my teenage years is 5 ft 10, and she towers above me and our other friends, and our work colleagues... (I am 5 ft 4.)

She has 2 sisters who are 5 ft 5 and 5 ft 6, so she towers above them a bit too. As I say, I am 5 ft 4, and she calls me 'shorty' and jokes about me sitting on a toadstool, (like a gnome!) I don't mind as it's just meant in jest. I have never joked about her being tall though, as I know she doesn't like it, and has always wished she was about 5 ft 6.

I do wonder if we need to take account of the fact that it is her boyfriend that says she is 105lbs...my experience of men guessing women's weight or indeed women guessing the weight of women who are a very different height to them is that they are often way out
I have multiple times been around people who think that any woman over 9.5 stone must be overweight, until I point out at my height that is underweight on the bmi calculator, that I consistently weigh at least a stone and often 1.5 stone more than that and get people would definitely describe my build as slim but not thin.
That is not to say that she isn't 105lbs, plenty of grown women are that size, no doubt some of them like being that weight, others would like to be less or some may like to be more, we do all come in different sizes.

Renee Zelweger is only small (5'3"?) so 9.5 stone is over the ideal weight for her and she looks healthier at her normal weight than she did ad Bridget. The extra weight she gained gave her puffy look even though she didn't look 'fat' by normal standards compared to the average woman.

9.5 stone at 5'3 is a BMI of 23.4, absolutely healthy.

Obviously fat as fuck by Hollywood standards but in the real world you'd be one of the slimmer people around.

There is no cat, to be found, just the usual lemon mouthed comments, about thin people, which says a lot about the posters making them.

It isn’t just down to what you eat though, some people are just small boned and slight with fast metabolism/very energetic.

I eat 1200 calories a day and have done for over two years, track and weigh everything, don’t eat carbs or junk and I’m 9 stone 10 and don’t dip below that.

Im 5”8” with size 8 feet and big hands, thick wrists and ankles. I’d die of starvation before I ever hit 7 stone something!

What was your intention in terms of adding something some people may find interesting rather than just making a (not very) smart comment talking down to (presumably since this is mumsnet) another woman?

I weighed 8st 7/119 lbs until I was in my early 20s, and I looked absolutely fine. I think if I was that weight now I would look drawn, but that's because I'm old enough that my skin wouldn't shrink and be taut. If I'd stayed that weight always I think i'd look fone now. It's the up and down that's a problem. I wish i'd never discovered late night pizza and binge drinking at uni!
