This is some dystopian lord of the flies hell. Those poor women. Burned on the boat. Wth. Poor man stabbed to death. Why are the people that did this then going to be roaming free in the UK? Why are they allowed to enter the UK in the first place? Why are gangs not being 'smashed'?

Why won't the government tell us the truth about their crime rates?

Channel chaos as migrant dies, two women burned and one stabbed on same boat

Forty-five of those on board continued towards the UK and were picked up by a British rescue vessel.

I dont usually respond to Ai generated content but really?

"The sheer number".... pretty vauge. As a percentage of the UK population if all the boats were full of criminals (they are not) and if you say that the same rate went on for 10 years (it won't as it is decreasing, in fact falling so it is falling off a cliff) it would amount to 0.037143% of the uk population. So in other words 1/30th of 1 percent, if it continued. This is based on bang up to date figures from this week, the week the photo says it was taken (it wasnt its Ai generted) So is there a problem with unauthorised landings. Yes. It needs dealing with. Is it a massive problem that should be consuming all the energy in our political debate NO.

Now the real point behind this is to disrupt and divide the population. That is in our enemies and opponents intrests. When Russia decides to test NATO and it will, division between NATO allies may just lead to a weak un-unified response. When Trump imposes yet more tarrifs and restrictions perhaps every EU country will act individually all consumed by minor intrests such as immigration of 1/30 of 1 percent.

The issue is the public pressure is there but the politicians currently do not have the mandate to do anything other than to see what we are - which is increased risk and chaos.

It will keep being an issue because of the stalling and soundbite slogans which can’t do as they pledge.

30,000 a year over 10 years is closer to 0.43%, so 10x your calculation.
What figures are you using?

"Thank you. Demonic attack? Are you saying that you believe Muslims are demons?"

That's an extreme interpretation, and a little goady. I am far from a devout Christian but I always understood demons sowed discord and spread hate etc...

You missed the bit where I also said "Or perhaps you mean something else. I would be interested to know".

So not goady at all. I was just trying to genuinely understand what smallglassbottles meant. She took absolutely no offence and explained further. I thanked her for doing so. All done and dusted 🙂

But religion forms culture.

Up to a point yes, but there's nothing in Islam which supports the kind of atrocities being mentioned. Unfortunately those are down to far too many who've corrupted it for their own malign ends

I honestly believe Islamophobia shouldn’t be a thing.

No religion should be above scrutiny.

When there are more than 2 billion Muslims in the world, it stands to reason that when talking about a 'minority' of Muslims being extremists - that 'minority' could be millions.

I suppose it comes down to what form Islamophobia takes really. I can't imagine many welcome outright hatred and physical attacks, but it's also true that some shriek the claim purely because of something they happen to dislike or find inconvenient

I agree though that no religion should be free from scrutiny, and I do mean none
Trouble is, some shout louder than others and/or are more enmeshed with those in power, and some are inclined to give in to this

Yes they do, when large voting blocks are at stake.

You're not wrong, CoventryCity, and that's where holding the line with special pleading comes into it. I'm sure we've all got things we'd love to work "just for us", but have to realise we can't always have exactly what we want, all the time

I should add that I'm coming to this from the standpoint where, because of the sector and region, at least 80% of my employees were Muslim. Not unnaturally I've seen it all, from the vast, vast majority of wonderful people to the few who thought an accusation of racism would overturn them failing an interview ... and never mind that another Muslim got the job

In the end, at least for me, it comes down to this: all cultures and communities have tossers, but belonging to selected ones shouldn't stop us pointing this out

What would Jesus advise we do about the people coming here in small boats and claiming asylum?

I think he would ask where the women and children are apparently with women for the time he was quite progressive and put the blame for lust on the " one looking lustfully " rather then the women!
That's massive ,a huge difference there between religions who blame the women ?

He also said "little children come unto me ".

So i think he would say where are the women and children .

I'm a relapsed Catholic and so much abusive and vilness has gone on I find it hard to believe I was raised catholic.

I understand it gives people a comfort and community feel however.
I find if strange how easily I fall into mass and the "responses " how easily programmed I was!!

I'm happy to openly talk about this in real life.

However I wouldn't ever dream of mentioning islam at all and I've had to tell DD to never ever mention religion to her Muslim friend. My DD has been very vocal about not believing in God but I've said you cannot mention this to your friend.

I've also been told that in islam you are born muslim which makes sense that people want Islam phobia laws.

I would never consider myself to be born Catholic i was born free and raised as a cathlolic.

Now I’m confused because the Daily Express says ‘Forty-five of those on board continued towards the UK and were picked up by a British rescue vessel, according to French authorities.’

Nord littoral says this boat was one of three crossing attempts between 26 and 28 August taken care of by CROSS gris-nez who are out of Calais. The three attempts were trying to go to Fecamp, Wissant and Gravelines.

Where is the other report and is it about the same boat?

NullaEffugium · 31/08/2026 13:26

AndyKitten · 31/08/2026 06:43

Same article states that 45 of these continued to the UK. They set off in Gravelines.

So no, they are not in Calais.

Edited

Which article? The Nord Littoral says they were attempting to go to Gravelines but were stopped by CROSS Gris-Nez just before reaching British waters. Then taken back to Calais.

NullaEffugium · 31/08/2026 13:27

AndyKitten · 31/08/2026 07:15

I’m reading two articles and it’s all a bit unclear.

Apparently it was a very busy night because there were three departures and another vessel was in distress as well.

Yes, the Nord Littoral calls all 3 attempted crossings.

Who was this?
