To find this Dolly joke meme in bad taste?

I’ll just start by saying I do have a sense of humour so please don’t accuse me of not having one!

There’s a meme going round, mostly posted by men, of a coffin with moulded breast shapes on the lid referring to Dolly Parton’s passing.

I know she used to joke about it herself and may well have laughed at this but it feels a bit bad taste to me and a bit depressing in this day and age to see a late, great woman (or any woman!) reduced to just her breast size. Wish we could focus on her amazing character and all the good she did!

I think black humour is ok, when it's about a person that virtually everybody revered and who was very specific about her appearance and her doing it from a position of being secure about who and what she was.

Personally I was waiting to see an obituary along the lines of "its all gone tits up for DP".

Perhaps I have a higher tolerance than most.

Yeah maybe you’re right, I just felt a bit jarred by it and all the “tit” jokes but maybe as a flat chested person I’m more sensitive!

I saw it and thought it was funny. She was the first to bring up them too, agree with PP that she would also have laughed.

Being older I remember the period where Dolly was regarded as a bit of a joke by a lot of people who weren't into country music and people very commonly and openly joked about her breasts because they didn't appreciate who she was or her talents.

I thought we had moved past this era and that people now recognised her for the amazing talented woman she was, and her kindness and the force for good that she was.

These disgusting people who still only see her as a pair of breast sound like misogynistic dinosaurs

She would have laughed, she made many a joke about her cartoon size figure.

She’d have found this funny, she herself made jokes about her boobs, one notable one when someone asked her if she lifted weights, she said yes every time she stood up.

It’s sad that after all her amazing career, underestimated talent and legacy that that’s how she’s epitomised. I don’t find it funny.

She was proud of her enhanced chest and would have found this funny, I think. She was highly respected and almost universally loved, her cartoon-like figure was just one tiny aspect of the woman.

She made jokes about her surgery and figure a lot.

But what's fantastic about Dolly is she actually carved her way up from nothing and earned the respect from what we're "manly" men in the country music field, at a time when women just didn't do that. It didn't even take that long for her to be an Equal, and changing her body apparently, according to her made her confident.

It is tacky. There is a lot of people who are easily amused. Dolly brought generations together, she is a Queen, my mother, sisters, nieces and nephews are all big fans.
Old bones, reminds me of some lovely evenings, when my niece as a little one about 3 she would sing “these aul bones” to Mam, her nanny, in her best Dolly Parton husky voice.

Yes, she was the first to joke about it - I'm recalling the comment she made about her being so petite because things don't grown in the shade!

I think if this were in the context of some Z-list 'glamour model' who was only known for her 'accentuated' looks and had died tragically young, it would be very different and unpleasantly dismissive, leaving a nasty taste in the mouth as though suggesting that her only notable interest was her boobs; but Dolly was an absolute tour de force and a truly amazingly talented and wonderful person - universally loved, admired and hugely respected for many decades - and so making a wry reference to something that she herself adopted as a personal gimmick/characteristic in that backdrop, as she reaches the end of her unique, rich, achievement-full life as an old lady, is almost quite endearing.

They were implants so she wasn’t being mocked from something she hated and could do nothing about.I remember one of her lines being ‘It costs a lot if money to look this cheap’! It was refreshing to see someone who who was happy in her own skin and did what made her happy. I find it depressing on the Style and Beauty forums the amount of posts from women asking if they’re ‘allowed’ to wear a particular item of clothing now they’re 40,50,60 etc. Just wear whatever makes you happy and stuff whatever anyone else thinks. Be more Dolly!

We don't know whether Dolly would have found it funny or not and those pp who are asserting this are being very presumptuous if they think they know .

A lot of people deal with nasty jokes about themselves by laughing along with them whilst secretly feeling hurt and belittled. And I would suggest that women in particular have had it instilled in them to do this about themselves.

Making a woman an object of sexist jokes even in death is disgusting imo. She deserves dignity in death. Where us the respect for her and her grieving family?

Funny how women crave for respect in a society that generally doesn't respect women and yet collude with blatant disrespect as in this.

I think in the age of the internet, we have to accept that the death of a celebrity brings some responses that are in bad taste. Basically, a flood of positive tributes initially, then a backlash and the jokes. I've seen Dolly criticised for not supporting Free Palestine, and for promoting vaccines, just hours after she died. It seems so unnecessary but I suspect it's a thing now.

Dolly's boobs were part of who she was, and she celebrated them, my guess is that she would be having a good chuckle.

I am more interested in her guitar. I have small hands and struggle with guitar. I have often wondered where she got her guitars from.

Does it make a difference that it is mainly men posting it? Do they make any other comment with it, to actually mention her talents.

I also remember a time when Dolly was considered a bit of a joke and her talent was overlooked in favour of her big chest. Dolly probably would have laughed at this but it does seem in poor taste to me, especially when so many men are misogynistic and look for every possible opportunity to reduce women's value to their body parts.
