Threw water at my DP, was I justified

I feel bad for doing this, it’s really out of character for me but I did it instinctively and out of shock. I was stood up pouring some water from the sink on my lunch break, DP backed up against me so his bum was touching mine and he broke wind. I turned around and swilled him with water. I know it was wrong but the disrespect and shock made me angry in that moment.

He is now saying I was out of order and isn’t accepting my apology.

Unless you are both into fart humour that is so gross I think your reaction was fine. Tbh not being farted on is a deal breaker for me

Ooodelally · 25/08/2026 06:57

He fucked around (farted around?) and found out! I couldn’t endure such a disgusting pig in my life tbh so he’d have been covered in water AND given his marching orders!

I'd have just waited until I was ready to fart back, but I am in the minority on MN who is human and farts.

But even then - because you're a lady - it's only once a month or so, is discreet like a little mouse coughing, and smells of lavender and camomile, correct?

moderate · 25/08/2026 07:38

How does “isn’t accepting my apology” manifest itself? Tell him to apologise for farting on you and don’t do anything for him until he does.

Phoenix1Arisen · 25/08/2026 08:14

If he was to employ his brain cell, he'd realise that he is lucky it was only water. At a sink, it could have been anything in your hand...

Elieza · 25/08/2026 08:23

i think is approach this from an angle of “you know i dont like fart humour. im not a 10 year old boy. ive told you before to pack it in. you chose not to and startled me with water in my hand. it’s natural consequences. i understand why you're not best pleased but you need to grow up. Youre a full grown man acting like a primary school child. Im your wife not another little boy. fart jokes are for children”.

AnitaCam · 25/08/2026 08:26

What an utter creep. Vile.

You must LOVE farts

Interesting

people can throw water at a partner who does something they don’t like and that’s fine…

Would you rather have water or fart gas on you?

AgnesMcDoo · 25/08/2026 08:33

he’s disgusting

backformoreofthesame · 25/08/2026 08:35

More sensible than saying sweetly “darling that wasn’t nice don’t do it again please “

Retro12 · 25/08/2026 08:38

One childish act followed by another.... If he didn't like your reaction, maybe he should grow up a bit!

BringBackCatsEyes · 25/08/2026 08:59

Has he apologised to you?

I wouldn’t have apologised at all! Very disrespectful of him, he should be apologising to you!

Beestings1 · 24/08/2026 23:18

No, he did the oven thing in bed once and got given what for. So he knows it’s not my type of humour.

I could not find this man sexually attractive. He sounds peurile. If you don’t share that kind of humour (I don’t) then it’s totally unacceptable what he is doing..

MummyOre · 25/08/2026 09:10

Both of you are disrespectful to each other.

Iocanepowder · 25/08/2026 09:13

My 5 year old does that and gets told off. DH needs to grow up and show some respect. Totally justified what you did as clearly words mean fuck all to him.

The battershittery came early on this thread I see, a few fart apologists out tonight.

What an utter arse, literally. Please dont start questioning your reaction OP. Is he normally like this? Does he have form for disrespecting you?

Fart apologists 😂😂

ZombieZebra · 25/08/2026 09:19

Domestic violence is never justified.

Shameful.

tombombaclot · 25/08/2026 09:24

Nah that’s fair play, I wouldn’t have apologised to him either!

CocksBolingey · 25/08/2026 09:25

He farts on you and then "won't accept your apology" for dashing him with a bit of water?! The man needs to grow up. What an icky baby!

FeralFucker · 25/08/2026 09:46

I would not share my bed, my home or my life with such a disrespectful man.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 25/08/2026 10:04

Apologising witgout demanding the same from him was your mistake. He now thinks he was justified and you over-reacted. Tell him to stop sulking and let you know when he is ready to apologise for being so disrespectful. Tell him you married a fully grown man not a man-child and his behaviour is a massive turn off.
