On a practical note, I would like to see more publicity about Katy Lam’s bill which will require public authorities to collect and data about crime, ethnicity and visa status. This information will strengthen the case for illegal immigration to be dealt with urgently. This won’t change anything on its own but the data, if collected, will allow even more pressure to build and I expect it will generate a lot of headlines and headaches for the government.
Thank you for being the first to admit there isn’t the data to prove any link between immigration status and criminality.
Bold of you to assume that if such data were collected it would definitely show illegal immigrants have a higher propensity to commit crimes.
Of course illegal immigrants are already criminals by their mere illegal presence here so there’s really no need for such a bill.
However when you say illegal immigration, you’re not talking about illegal immigrants you’re actually talking about legal male immigrants from certain specific countries. These are a tiny proportion of all foreign immigrants.
I support this bill, I’m interested in the truth so I’m not going to say it will prove this or that because we don’t know. There is currently no proven link.
