Crash on A66 that killed two police officers and 5 others…

1000 replies

bookworm1982 · 22/08/2026 18:53

Am I correct that the other victims were 5 lads travelling in one car the wrong way up the motorway? EXACTLY the same as the 5 Irish lads who died a few days ago travelling the wrong way up a motorway too? Surely not twice in a week? Is there some sort of mental social media thing going on, telling kids to drive up the wrong way? Like a dare? Just cannot believe it happened once, let alone twice. Just devastating.

See, I don't blame a whole community for the actions of individuals or groups within it. I'd call that being a racist. But I get the impression we wouldn't agree on that, or much else.

And I'm not wrong about attitudes in Ireland. I know Ireland has plenty of what I'd call racists in it. I just said, not all of Ireland is like that. And I'm definitely not wrong about that: I could name at least three people in Ireland who aren't racist.

I'm as disgusted as anyone else by the actions of the driver and whoever was encouraging him. I still think everyone should get treated with dignity in death (however that looks to the dead, their family, their community). And I'd no more blame all travellers for this than I'd blame all white Brits for Fred West or Bonnie Blue or any of the many, many other psychopaths that come from that ethnic group. I don't even think being white British makes you more likely to be a psychopath. Aren't I generous.

Ah yes, such an easy insult, isn’t it?

“You are racist.” Shuts down all discussion. And is one of the main reasons we are all too terrified to say anything, or authorities to do anything.

Well done.

Burying them according to your community's customs is respectful though.

The boys were not angelic. They had no respect for anyone outside their own community. Their criminality was focused on everyone else, and their community has given no sign of disapproval. In what way would a display like that signal to all the other youngsters that what happened was ‘a bad thing’?

Treating a thug like a rockstar because they are dead is not a healthy response. And respect does not come into it.

How would you feel if someone killed a family in your community, or two community elders, and their funeral was a procession of adoration? When a Traveller was killed during a robbery, that community made the elderly couple’s life absolute hell. That is not respect.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 23/08/2026 07:49

There’s a different between treating someone with respect and treating them like a superstar hero.

Possibly not for travellers?

Biker47 · 23/08/2026 08:00

Shame the 5 oxygen thieves who are dead didn't have the good fortune to only kill themselves in this, RIP to the 2 innocent police officers.

Catwalking · 23/08/2026 08:01

ExtraOnions · 23/08/2026 07:49

These tragedies are the end consequences of the “traveller community” being allowed to ride roughshod over the law, due to the fear of being called racist.

It starts with pitching up on land that doesn’t belong to you, breaking laws by being there in the first instance. Then fly tipping your waste, with no action agaist you. Ploughing up fields and putting hard standing down (normally on a bank holiday weekend so there is no-one to stop you), and illegally moving on - knowing the law will protect you from having to move on anyone soon. To making camps no- go areas for any authority.. because you scream Racism of anyone tries to check. Petty criminality therefore goes uninvestgated and unchecked, the kind if criminality that effects hundreds of people, and heaven forbid if you don’t want potential criminals in your premises .. again called racist.
So the authority’s have no power, and no respect, and the petty criminality grows, and become bigger .. and you end up with dead Police Officers, and serious injured citizens.

Add to that a complete disregard for Education.

If you have a whole community who are allowed to act with impunity, that the authorities are unable or unwilling to deal with .. you reap the consequences.

Thankyou for writing this, exactly what I wanted to say & much better put than I could have 👍

Nah, when a community responds to a tragedy in the way they have, I’m afraid they lose the respect of others. If they want respect they need to behave respectfully.

ALovelyPinkUnicorn · 23/08/2026 08:02

Puffinsandcoffee · 23/08/2026 07:29

All of Ireland doesn't have that attitude. For anyone else reading this eugenicist bile: the Irish people I know have more respect for the dead and the bereaved than that. Police, Traveller, immigrant, criminal, whatever - one of the best things about Irish culture is its respect for the dead and the bereaved.

As for the community the driver and his mates were from, assuming it's travellers outsiders will provide all the opprobrium necessary (and more besides), as it always has done where travellers are concerned. Whatever internal debates this community is having about how behaviour like that should be seen and dealt with, you don't use a community event - like a funeral - to make a stand against or an example of one of your own, especially when you're under attack.

@Puffinsandcoffee ah so they’ll respect the dead,, but not the living?

What's your definition of racist that differs from mine? I think what those boys did was dreadful. I also think there's a conversation to be had about how their behaviour relates to their community. I don't think their community is to blame, or that their community should disown or condemn or ex-communicate them, or that everyone in the community is capable of the same behaviour. I'm happy to have a discussion about it all.

I agree, the boys were far from angelic. But what you see from the outside of a community like travellers tells you pretty much nothing about what goes on inside - how the event is seen, what "signals" are given to other young people about it.

How would I feel if someone killed a family in my community, and their funeral was a procession of adoration? I know exactly how I'd feel, because it's happened. I feel: funerals are not the place to make examples or points or anything. The killer's community can bury him however they see fit.

Are the boys part of the travelling community? Just going by the photos.

Looking at the photos you can see on the facebooks of the ones named Id say not, roadmen definitely but not obviously travellers. I know they are reporting links to the travelling community but it's not clear to me what that means

Fgs 'top lads' yeah right. I saw a balloon release organised on another post. No doubt now sleeping with the 'angles'.

You want to see communities saying 'let's stop our kids driving like arseholes and killing people'.

I think you're mistaking not understanding the risk to other people's lives with not caring one jot about others.

The people who behave like this consider anyone who is harmed by their actions as losers who deserved it because the perpetrators think themselves so much smarter, and more clever than all the losers who go to work and pay taxes so the murderous arseholes in these events can collect benefits.

I have no sympathy for them, their families or their like minded communities who foster this selfish and murderous behaviour.

My condolences to all those who knew and loved the two police officers.

Yep.

I knew (he's dead now) a career criminal with a likely anti-social personality disorder who had killed a friend joyriding when they were teens.

If he bumped into the parents of the kid he killed in the street and they gave him a look or said something to him he'd mock and jeer at them.

Hoping for some semblance of humanity I once asked him if he reacted badly out of shame? No, he said. 'Their DS was a div, don't get in a car with someone without a licence if you don't want to get killed'.

If you asked him about stealing cars he'd say 'if you have a nice car and you leave it outside, someones going to nick it, might as well be me'.

They always blame the victims for their crimes.

He died suspiciously, being found unconscious crushed under a car he'd failed to secure properly before getting under it to do some work. Wouldn't surprise me at all if someone gave it a nudge.

Their community is hailing these criminals as heroes.

Did you know one of the individuals in the crash in Ireland had robbed a woman in her eighties while she lay terrified in her bed. So terrified she soiled herself. He wrenched rings off her fingers in the process of the robbery.

Yet here they are, being feted in death.

No-one has an issue with a family mourning a son, but to do it in such a way when the son has caused so much misery beggars belief.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 23/08/2026 08:15

@Puffinsandcoffee can you explain the rationale behind a funeral celebrating their lives, when the lives in question ruin the lives of others?
I understand respecting different traditions. I can’t find a way to understand celebrating people who have brought such misery.

Teenagers KNOW that a pursuit will be called off if they drive the wrong way down a major road. What starts as a car theft, or a joy ride, turns into a life and death situation when the police are chasing them and they are well aware that all they have to do to get the police to back off is head the wrong way down a carriageway.

I don’t know what can be changed to stop this?

Edited

They need those pokey up things on slip roads that you can drive over fine from the correct direction, but shred your tyres from the other direction. That'd also stop the clowns who caused chaos trying to reverse back up when they've taken a wrong turn.

I feel sorry for the five irish young lads that died days ago these tick tock social media needs to take responsibility and accountability for their actions im sorry for the family and children on the way to their holiday injuried as well. Im really sorry for the loss of the two police officers just doing their job leaving behind families wifes partners in Middlesbrough Tees side. Social media needs to take much more responsibility so do others. 18 year olds are classed as adults maybe tick tok needs to be banned so does intersgram as well and put restrictions on youtube no under 18s how many more do we need to see doing this kind of thing

Why do people keep blaming tik tok? If it wasn't that they'd be filming it and sharing it on any other platform. Sharing their criminality shouldn't be the main concern, it's what they're doing that is the problem. With or without social media they'd still be doing it. Police need more power to clamp down on these people.

They sound like career criminals who will be no loss to any community it is only a tragedy the police officers were killed too.

Apologies that’s it’s a daily fail link, but reading this (I’m local to the incident) just fills me with anger 😠

Edited to add - not angry with the article - angry at the lifestyle this lowlife led

Walikota · 23/08/2026 08:22

We shall be finding out in due course, i'd like to add that there are criminal groups present in English society who can easliy be mistook for other non-English groups but who share engagement in criminal activities as a trait. That area is well known by police asan epicentre in the NE of major crime....the original poster didn t see a connection to the lethal crash in Ireland....but this is my suspicion (and I'm no Columbo).

I've had a similar one recently, except it was a lorry he was working on. Forgot to put the brake on apparently. Terrible for his family, but a life-changing, positive event for the many others he used to target & terrorise.

Mistachio · 23/08/2026 08:27

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that if my son had done what these scumbags did, as a mother I would feel no less shattered by his death than any other mother, regardless of what he’d done.

HOWEVER I would absolutely not be posting semi-literate, mawkish gibberish on Facebook, or releasing fucking balloons and lanterns (more opportunities to cause a nuisance eh? Every cloud…)

I would be cringeing, wondering where I went wrong as a parent, grieving in private and the only public comment I’d make would be to express my shame and sorrow for what my feral offspring had done.
