Anyone else sad summer is drawing to a close?

I’ve had a great summer - loads of memories with our daughter (3), playing in the garden daily and trips in the sun.

I already feel sad it’s coming to a close - I like the Christmas build up in December but apart from that I really struggle with the grey days and know I’ll be reminiscing loads for summer 😥

Yep - always. I have school age children, and whilst I adore autumn and winter (well, the run up to Christmas) I am in a really fortunate position of being able to be home with my children during the holidays, and as such I love being off with my children in summer; we slow down during the summer, we do some days out, sometimes do a holiday, but just generally potter around and spend time together, be in the garden lots and I treasure that so much. I realise I’m very fortunate though - it’s a privilege to be able to have this time with them and to enjoy it and I know not everyone does. As we approach the end of the holidays, I feel sad, but I also do try to just live in the moment and enjoy each season. Time for the ‘ber months and the excitement that brings!

I think once you accept that you cannot control much in this life, the next best thing to do is work around it and lean into it with a bit of prep! You are so right about life being about being surrounded by your (our) people no matter when or where, and in my case gratitude for what I've got.

I love most of all having my daughter at home for so long. It seems such a long time until another properly long holiday. It makes me feel so sad that we’re soon going back to such a rigorous structure.

I'm usually sad as Autumn approaches and the nights become longer, but this summer was horrible for me with the intense heat; it made me ill and felt like an endurance test. I'm grateful for the cooler weather and the rain this year.

No, I’ve absolutely loathed the hot weather and can’t wait for it to be over.

Yeah I hate it but you will get all the “autumn is the best season crowd” talking about cosy pumpkin vibes.

I bloody love summer and this one has been spectacularly shit as I have had an emergency op and recovery.

The days are short and dark and getting shorter, and winter solstice and the new waxing of the year are still some way away. Damp and dank prevail.

God no. This summer has been unbearable. No escape from the heat, no sleep, it feels like it’s lasted forever. I was on my last nerve at the end of the last heatwave, never been so happy to feel a cool breeze. I’m ready for candles, jumpers, hot water bottles and stew now.

I live autumn but I absolutely hate anything from November to February. I find it so dark and depressing. I’m not a fan of Christmas in any way shape or form.

I think so. I’m definitely an introvert and can’t wait for it to be socially acceptable to go home and get in bed with my kindle rather than everyone expecting you to be out and about all the time!

Extreme heat and humidity, far too hot to have fair-skinned 1yo DC out in the sun for day trips, garden frizzling to a crisp, curtains shut all day, boiling trains. Worries about climate change, no rain for months, wildfires, farmers struggling.

I miss “normal” summers in the old climate, but I don’t think they’re coming back sadly!

Few days?! We had a period of approx 3 months where we couldn't get the bedrooms below 30 degrees despite solar glass, solar blinds, a decent fan and a humidifier! I also really hope I am correct to use the past tense there!

Not me, I love the cold and the dark evenings! We're all different.

I can understand you not enjoying the current heat, but what do you like about the dark evenings? To me, they are gloomy and oppressive and they are certainly less safe.

Difficult to say, I just prefer it getting dark early 🤷🏻 I'm loving the fact that it's still pretty dark when I wake up now, too (I'm an early riser).

Agree. I currently leave work in the evening and it's still light...I get home and it's still light. I can enjoy a nice sit down in my garden after work. I feel happy. The traffic is lighter in the summer too

In autumn/winter... It will be dark when I'm still sitting at my desk. I'll leave in the dark and have to walk to my car and battle home in horrible traffic and drive in the dark. I'll get home and won't be able to use my garden. What's to like about this?

Nope. Only home for the 5th heatwave this summer and that was more than enough. Back on hols again in 13 weeks too

I like January the best. Nice and peaceful.

I’m in the south east. I’ve found the debilitating heat without air con at home and at work, extremely challenging. I’m glad summer is drawing to a close.
