To report my colleagues fantasy football team name?

Hulkins87 · 21/08/2026 20:56

We have a work fantasy football league, it’s advertised on the internal intranet site and emails were sent around about sign up details etc.

The league has gone live tonight so you can see everyone’s team including their team names.

A colleague has a team name which references stopping the boats - would it be wrong of me to report this?

Hmm let’s see why following Nigel Farage’s rhetoric is racist…

That's not a logical answer - it's emotive. So nobody has been racist.

Are you sure it's not referencing the first million pound goalkeeper Nigel Martyn?!

Report to who exactly? Presumably if the league is visible to all in your organisation management are already aware of the name.

ViperHalliwell · 22/08/2026 09:10

Unfortunately the context isn't clear and he can claim plausible deniability if asked about the name by HR, his manager. etc. If he'd made a clearer reference to Farage being willing or able to deal effectively with problems stemming from mass immigration, then he could at least be sanctioned for false advertising.

backformoreofthesame · 22/08/2026 09:11

they arrive , get sent back or they get granted asylum -

do you want to stop granting asylum to people ? Is that what stop the boats really means ? Stop the boats sounds better than “no longer give refuge to people on the basis of the inhumane conditions they would otherwise face “ focus on how they arrive not why they arrive ?

If you believe that I’ve got a bridge to sell you

Everyone wants to stop the boats, albeit for different reasons. No one, not even the left, wants people to be illegally crossing the channel on dangerous rubber boats.

Some because they don’t want the people here full stop, others because they want safe routes and it done more officially.

And that would be the same whoever the people are and wherever they’re from.

So true

FunPeachEagle · 22/08/2026 09:17

Heaven forbid we should stop those boats coming, it's all going really well.

Waterbaby41 · 22/08/2026 09:17

Mind your own business.

I don’t think this is true. I judge people’s beliefs by their actions not their words. Many people, including the government, many charities and many individuals are encouraging and aiding people arriving on boats. Therefore, this is what they want.

So you don't believe in being proactive in preventing illegal entry in the first place. Nice bit of money wastage there not to mention putting UK citizens in danger.

XMissPlacedX · 22/08/2026 09:21

You can force them to change their name
but it’s a drop in the ocean to changing their views which you can’t do. Your worrying about things that are nothing to with you OP, give your head a rest.

Nigel Martyn was a great shot stopper

and now he is trying to get into the England over 60s cricket team

I’d make one called ‘Nige5milbung’

I don't know much about fantasy football, but isn't it supposed to be fun and lighthearted?

MouthOfTheThames · 22/08/2026 09:29

It’s so bizarre, and so offensive to the people who have lost their lives or had their lives ruined, that people are still coming on to threads to claim these attacks aren’t happening.

  1. Nobody in their right mind wants people to continue to pay criminals to drown them in the English channel.
  1. Nigel says he will stop the boats. So does every other political leader except perhaps Polenski.

What exactly is offensive about that fantasy team name?

I don’t think this is true. I judge people’s beliefs by their actions not their words. Many people, including the government, many charities and many individuals are encouraging and aiding people arriving on boats. Therefore, this is what they want.

I believe the charities and individuals are doing that because there are currently no safe routes or other ways for them to get here.

Currently, the only ways to claim asylum here is to physically land here or to come via an official scheme - however, the official schemes are limited. We have/had official schemes for Ukrainians, Afghans and Syrians in the recent past. These people were brought over safely by air.

If you are from a country where there is no such scheme, the only way to claim asylum is to physically get here. Many of the people who claim asylum here actually land here legally (with a valid visa) - not via a small boat.

The people who come across on boats are from countries where there is no current resettlement scheme, or if there is they don’t qualify. They likely can’t get on a plane to land here legally as they won’t qualify for a visa (getting a visitor visa to the UK from certain countries can be tough).

So the ‘refugees welcome’ crowd want more ways for asylum seekers to be able to apply from abroad and then to be given ‘safe routes’ to get here.

I'm lost here - what is wrong with wanting the boats stopped?

Steady on there. The OP might want to report the journalist who reported that.
