To report my colleagues fantasy football team name?

Hulkins87 · 21/08/2026 20:56

We have a work fantasy football league, it’s advertised on the internal intranet site and emails were sent around about sign up details etc.

The league has gone live tonight so you can see everyone’s team including their team names.

A colleague has a team name which references stopping the boats - would it be wrong of me to report this?

It’s a phrase repeated by most politicians. Do you plan to report all of them?

I think at the moment there's a fair amount of desperation from Reform supporters. They are losing relevance by the day, as their only offer is available from the other parties, who also bring the added benefits of not being investigated for fraud. Burnham is popular and doing well so far and they can see it slipping away. So the die hards are mounting a final push. I wouldn't give it any more oxygen by complaining as it just gives them a platform. The less airtime they get the sooner they're forgotten.

Yes, people will soon lose interest in the fact that thousands of undocumented young men from cultures with values completely different to our own are arriving weekly and being housed in large groups all around the country. Just ignore anyone who mentions it and pretend it’s not happening.

StormInaDcup99 · 22/08/2026 08:38

I dont think it's offensive.

I would just leave it

99bottlesofkombucha · 22/08/2026 08:44

This is probably legally protected speech and you have no right to try and oppress it. You can disagree but you cannot restrict it, you’ll have to move to a dictatorship or similar for that. Everyone who thinks free speech is just for them should move.

They're already losing interest in it. People have multiple issues of concern. Most pressing being the cost of living. Most people are talking more now about what's being done to make life more affordable, improve affordable housing etc. Hence the popularity of a PM who isnt a one trick pony. While people want immigration controlled, it's only a minority who make it their whole personality.

You are being unreasonable. Hope the boats are stopped it’s scary.

Except that this specifically represents Farage's proposals for stopping them, which are not only scary but also unlawful and liable to lead us into war.

Well no, that is not happening. Check your facts.

I am not sure everyone links ‘stop the boats’ to Reform’s plans. It’s not the first thing I think of. Most will think it just means literally stopping the boats.

Yes, I’ve noticed that less people are talking about immigration recently 🙄 (sarcasm for clarity)

it's only a minority who make it their whole personality.

Strange comment

When Labour moves asylum seekers into the previously unaffected middle class / affluent areas, many more people are going to sit up and take an interest in it.

War with whom?

HollyMcDolly · 22/08/2026 08:52

Report for what? Why is everyone so obsessed with repotting opinions they disagree with on here?

MerryUmberHedgehog · 22/08/2026 08:53

Perhaps mention it to your colleague first.

itsallaroundus · 22/08/2026 08:56

autumnwitch4 · 22/08/2026 08:29

Why?

Maybe OP’s colleague wants them to stop because they’re dangerous, people are putting their lives at risk and deaths do occur.

Even the left ‘refugees welcome’ brigade want to stop the boats (because they want to bring them over via a safe crossing)

Burnham wants to stop the boats, are you going to report him?

Because racism is unacceptable in a work fantasy football
league?

Do you have a problem with women wanting to feel safe?

LakieLady · 22/08/2026 08:01

Yes, there's nothing like a bit of light-hearted xenophobia to brighten up the day, is there?🙄

Why’s it xenophobic? I’d also like to stop the small boats; infants, toddlers and children are drowning. There is an unnecessary risk to life, and these people are largely being exploited by human traffickers.

I’m more disgusted that ANYONE doesn’t have a stop the boats attitude.

I do think we should be offering safe crossings and asylum/refuge to those needing it. It’s a humanitarian crisis that you need to flee your war torn country and then have your children drown between two western countries at peace.

StopTheBoats is no more a xenophobic phrase than LevelUpTheNorth or Manchesterisation which are also topical political slogans of the moment that would make suitable team names.

So tell is why it's racist. It shouldn't be difficult, seeings as how it is to say somebody is racist.

Absolutely crazy that people are pushing the definition of racism as far as to include not wanting huge boatloads of undocumented young men arriving on our shores daily. What next, I wonder?

backformoreofthesame · 22/08/2026 09:04

It is racism dressed up as safety

assuming illegal immigrants are dangerous is racism - it’s making sweeping generalisations and it’s directed frequently at people who have arrived here legally , people who have lived here for decades , people who were born here

illegals get sent back - they don’t get given social housing and benefits

Hmm let’s see why following Nigel Farage’s rhetoric is racist…

So you think not stopping the boats and open borders are going to keep women and girls safe?
