To report my colleagues fantasy football team name?

Hulkins87 · 21/08/2026 20:56

We have a work fantasy football league, it’s advertised on the internal intranet site and emails were sent around about sign up details etc.

The league has gone live tonight so you can see everyone’s team including their team names.

A colleague has a team name which references stopping the boats - would it be wrong of me to report this?

It's still through work and with colleagues, so corporate code of conduct applies. It would be viewed as inappropriate to bring politics into the office in this manner and potentially damaging to the company's reputation.
It should be reported to HR.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 22/08/2026 07:29

Yes, and you can report any offensive names to FPL also.

UniquePinkSwan · 22/08/2026 07:32

Seems like you want to report him because it’s a Reform name. Labour want to stop the boats as well you know….

autumnwitch4 · 22/08/2026 07:35

Do you not want the boats to stop?

Labour wants to stop the boats. Everyone should want them to stop. It’s a dangerous and an illegal crossing.

topcat2014 · 22/08/2026 07:41

I'd like all the boats to stop too. It is a fairly mainstream view

MouthOfTheThames · 22/08/2026 07:43

LlynTegid · 22/08/2026 07:23

Talk to him about your views and his inappropriate sense of humour. The positive is that you have found out that you have someone with limited political engagement and intelligence before any more damage can be done.

Eh?

loulouljh · 22/08/2026 07:48

No. Keep your beak out. And yes the boats should be stopped.

5128gap · 22/08/2026 07:58

If he's called Nigel or there was a player called Nigel I'd think it witty. Otherwise I'd assume he was just another obsessive loon who couldn't stop banging on about immigration and give him a wife berth. Reporting him just fuels their nonsense that they not allowed to talk about it. When in reality we all know they talk of little else.

MouthOfTheThames · 22/08/2026 07:43

Eh?

I think it’s a satire of the “I think you wrong-think therefore I am clearly better than you!” belief?

A fantasy football team is a bit of fun. You might be taking it too seriously.

Yes, there's nothing like a bit of light-hearted xenophobia to brighten up the day, is there?🙄

BellatrixpureBlood · 22/08/2026 08:05

You are being unreasonable. Hope the boats are stopped it’s scary.

WildLeader · 22/08/2026 08:05

ThatWaryOchreJoker · 22/08/2026 00:25

Why not create a team of your own called BurnhamWon'tStopThem?

Better yet “NigeIsFullOfIt”

Is it xenophobic to want to stop the boats? If so, I think most of us are xenophobes so who cares?

What's xenophobic about it? When that Nigel t-shirt was paraded about, people were falling over themselves to say it wasn't a problem. Nige will stop them could mean anything in that case. This was just a juicy Friday night goady thread anyway.

I hope so

It’s not appropriate and should be reported. DH work has an after work football team. We went to watch one of the matches as it was for charity and two of the other players kept shouting to another player “HY” when they were open or passing the ball. I asked DH what’s with the HY (that’s not the colleagues name or initials) he didn’t know.

We didn't go to the after drinks, so waited til Monday to find out. We found out from another colleague it stood for Hitler Youth. DH had no idea and with the other colleague was disgusted. Other colleague had already reported it. They were in corporate colours, football uniform and representing the company so all three were in hot water with HR this week. Apparently this colleague has disgusting racist and heavy stop the boat type views outside of work but the dept he’s in is very mixed.

It’s become quite awkward these last few days. DH has already requested that this person and the other two are not put in his team from a while ago due to behaviour on a staff night out that was vile towards and about several female colleagues.

If someone is so casual at putting ‘Nigewillstoptheboats’ in a work environment then what are they like outside of work? If it was my work he would have been instantly dismissed and good no place in society for racists/bigots.

MouthOfTheThames · 22/08/2026 08:15

On what planet is it racist or bigoted to want to stop the boats?

But so interesting to see that there are indeed people who don’t want the boats stopped and believe that allowing them to continue is the correct and desired trajectory for the UK.

What's racist about stopping the boats - are you saying this Labour government is racist? Nice story on Hitler Youth, BTW.

Lentilcakes · 22/08/2026 08:17

Everyone wants to stop the boats now. Tbh as much as I hate Farage I don’t think it’s mega offensive. Just ignore and move on.

LivingTheDreamish · 22/08/2026 08:20

Well it's not that controversial is it? I was expecting much worse.

5128gap · 22/08/2026 08:20

I think at the moment there's a fair amount of desperation from Reform supporters. They are losing relevance by the day, as their only offer is available from the other parties, who also bring the added benefits of not being investigated for fraud. Burnham is popular and doing well so far and they can see it slipping away. So the die hards are mounting a final push. I wouldn't give it any more oxygen by complaining as it just gives them a platform. The less airtime they get the sooner they're forgotten.

itsallaroundus · 22/08/2026 08:22

Report. It’s unacceptable.

Report. It’s unacceptable.

Why?

Maybe OP’s colleague wants them to stop because they’re dangerous, people are putting their lives at risk and deaths do occur.

Even the left ‘refugees welcome’ brigade want to stop the boats (because they want to bring them over via a safe crossing)

Burnham wants to stop the boats, are you going to report him?

user1492757084 · 22/08/2026 08:32

No.
It's fantasy.
