AIBU to worry my son has too little to open?

my DS is 6 on Monday and I have just had to fix my car which cost me a fortune. I feel like I haven’t bought him enough. I have bought him a full sized football net, football boots, trainers a new football and an iPad. I just think he won’t be happy as it isn’t much to open.

I'll probably get torn apart but I'd return the iPad and use the money to buy toys, books, craft stuff etc.

pimplebum · 21/08/2026 19:17

are you serious ?

a 6 year old !!

everything WITHOUT the IPAD would be enough

Iloveegyptt · 21/08/2026 19:18

I would have been more than happy with that but I feel so much pressure!

Are you joking?

Suspicioustoenails · 21/08/2026 19:18

You cannot be serious.

Summerunlover · 21/08/2026 19:18

Sorry is this a wind up!

hattie43 · 21/08/2026 19:18

How can those gifts including an IPad be considered not enough .

littlemousebigcheese · 21/08/2026 19:19

This has to be rage bait

Iloveegyptt · 21/08/2026 19:19

Because I think they like a lot to open. Maybe I should return the iPad if that is the case as you can’t have it all

Yes....does a 6 year old need an iPad?
To be honest all the football stuff sounds plenty (if that's what he is really into).

I’m sure you’re the only one putting pressure on yourself , he’s 6 he’ll be happy .

Jellycatspyjamas · 21/08/2026 19:19

What? You’ve bought a 6 year old an iPad and you think he won’t be happy? I’d put the iPad away until he’s able to appreciate it, the football gifts are absolutely fine for a birthday.

FairLemonNewt · 21/08/2026 19:19

Don't give your 6 year old their own ipad for all sorts of reasons!

ShedShedShed · 21/08/2026 19:20

Return the iPad ... Do not give him a tablet he's too young at 6.

You'll have a few hundred to buy him actual toys.

Return it because giving a 6 year old a tablet is mad!

Treetreetreetree · 21/08/2026 19:21

Return the iPad. He is too young.

Return the iPad and get him some more toys and a couple of books.

TrunkElliot · 21/08/2026 19:24

Can you return the iPad? Will the seller take it back and refund you?

Needmorelego · 21/08/2026 19:27

@Iloveegyptt if you do want him to have more things to unwrap (because yes it is quite fun when you're 6) you could get a bunch of little stockings filler type toys.
During COVID when it was more difficult to get things I made my daughter a birthday stocking filled with little things like Hot Wheels cars, Pokémon cards, stickers etc.
You could get a gift bag and fill it with whatever type of little things he likes - all individually wrapped so he has to take time to unwrap.
That could be done for £20 or less.

BEAchDays2 · 21/08/2026 19:28

I mean 🫠

BEAchDays2 · 21/08/2026 19:29

I’m embarrassed for you OP.

VenusThighTrap · 21/08/2026 19:30

Just what small children need in their lives - the ability to stare at another screen. Why would you want that? Get him something that fosters play, movement and creativity, the football stuff is perfect.
