The weather has changed for my holiday

Due to holiday in the south of France next week, and all along the long range forecast has been beautiful.

Now it’s changed. Rain every fucking day apart from the day I leave. I have to unpack all the beautiful dresses and clothes I’ve packed and change them out for rain jackets and boots. I’m fuming, I actually can’t believe it. It’s just my luck!

AIBU to just not want to go? I was due to do so many lovely day trips and now they’ll just be awful - damp and grey, any pictures I take will look awful. I just can’t believe it

Do you only go on holiday so you can post pictures on social media? If so, you could save a lot of money using this thing called Google Images

I understand. A few years ago I went to Corfu and it rained every day, all day and night. People say "you're still on holiday" but that's ridiculous. People say "others can't afford a holiday". Also ridiculous.

Some people don't particularly enjoy being out in the pissing rain being battered by wind, not being able to see the view from the sea view villa they've paid a fortune for.

I don't understand the part about social media though. The only fun part of my holiday was posting pictures of the pissing rain.

Whilst your attitude is petulant, and irritating, I get the disappointment when you have an image of how you want things to be and then it isn't whats expected

We holiday in the UK most years and I have had disappointment when the weather has been lovely and dry the weeks around our trip and then its wet and dull when we are away

I have had many trips (including Hadrian's wall and Stonehenge ) that would have just been more enjoyable without rain.

There is no getting away from the fact its a lot more pleasant and easier to eat picnics/takeaway food when its dry and you aren't trying to find a dry bench or patch of grass to sit on.

But, I also get you can't control the weather so you either make the best of it and crack on, or don't go

On the plus side, the rain will reduce the devastating impact of the many wildfires France has experienced this Summer, record breaking lows in the rivers and drought affecting many things. The surroundings might look lush and green instead of dead. We were forecast non-stop rain during the last days of our holiday. In practice this meant frequent rain showers but also patches of beautiful sunshine. We spent time on the beach, had a picnic in the car during the rain shower, followed by an excursion and then a lovely pub dinner during another rain shower and so on. Also weather that far out is still very changeable. We are desperate for rain in our county in the UK. We have had nothing for over 50 days. It is dire for the farmers here.

I don't know.I love rain. I love walking around sites in the rain - generally fewer people. And it's better than 37 degree heat, pounding sunshine and forest fires.

I can see why you are disappointed but that is weather for you and always a risk.

You can not go if that's what you want and lose the money- but most people would go and try and enjoy it - find some indoor stuff to do - but if that's not you well don't go.

No one could be this rude and unable to read a weather forecast, especially if they claim to have a travel TikTok. The OP sounds like she has never been abroad before, because otherwise she’d understand the difference between a UK rainy forecast and a French one (and would understand how to read a weather forecast, especially 10 days in advance!)
OP can edit her social media photos if they aren’t perfect (she probably does that already). The people of France are very anxious for rain after the awful drought they’ve had. Don’t be so self absorbed.

I get it’s disappointing when a much looked forward to holiday doesn’t go to plan. And of course you want some sunshine when away.

If social media is important to you, just be ready and make sure you even have a spare pair of shoes with you so that when the sun comes out, you can quickly change and look more summery!

I think I agree with you. No-one under the age of 16, with limited life experience, can be this ridiculous. If this was my adult child I'd be asking myself where I went so fucking wrong. I can picture this attitude permeating throughout everything they do.

This is the problem with social media, it doesn’t reflect real life and so everybody expects everything to be perfect. Rain happens, that’s real life. Few holidays are perfect from start to finish, people just don’t show that on their travel accounts. It’s only going to be raining 1-2 hours a day, just plan around that and you can still pretend it’s a perfect holiday for your social accounts, just like every other fake influencer. Alternatively you could even dare to be different and show some reality and take some photos of the atmospheric rain alongside the sunny times, some people would find it refreshing to see the tougher reality of travel and not just the highlights.

That said, if you are really too petulant to cope with 1-2 hours of rain a day just cancel and don’t risk booking a holiday again, you can never guarantee the weather and even if the weather was perfect something else could have just as easily gone wrong; flight delays, a lost bag, stomach bug, unexpected attraction closures, issues with accommodation etc. If you can’t cope with a change of plans/ things not being exactly as you envision then travelling really isn’t for you.

See, I get ops upset with the sunrise swim. When you have an image of a lovely blue sky for sunrise and its just grey and cloudy.

I've never had a terrible time due to weather, but I can't lie, there have been trips where it would have been better if the weather was sunny/clear and dry
