AIBU to think if we need to politely ask men not to rape women (or men), then we don't want such people in the UK?

Don't rape, sexually assault or make kissing noises' at people, asylum seekers warned in guidance about living in UK
UK arrivals have been told to treat women equally, not sexually assault partners or have sex with children in a new Home Office pamphlet. As well as the guidebook, a series of posters have also been designed by the government.

What do people think of the Nov 25 measures introduced by Shabana Mahmood-apparently borrowed from Denmark- to vet asylum seekers?

I don't know enough about them.

Mumterz · 20/08/2026 08:13

EasternStandard · 20/08/2026 08:07

Yes and we can separate systems so we look at risk. The asylum process lacks any vetting.

Fair point. I also probably wouldn't want many nations being granted even tourist visas as well tbf.

Mumterz · 20/08/2026 08:15

Trumps travel ban list would be a good start if anything

I can’t say on that, but it’s far easier to just stop visas than it is to opt out of international laws and the ECHR, and / or do as Australia has done, and all that would be required to simply and fundamentally check the backgrounds before allowing entry.

And only give refuge to those who meet the criteria. As an example Aus uses humanitarian visas instead and that system gives them informed control over who is granted asylum.

Right so let's deal with our problems of misogyny and rape and not be distracted to hate minorities

Or let's deal with the problems we already have but also not let in men from cultures where women are far from equal

If Romanians and Polish men score higher in the committing assaults than men from Pakistan and Afghanistan it’s nothing to do with culture, religion or asylum seekers! How many asylum seekers come from Europe? 🤨

Edited

The would depend entirely on the percentage of the population made up of each nationality. You need to multiply the number of crimes by the percentage of the UK population from that country to get the offending rate per head.

This is basic primary school maths.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 20/08/2026 08:33

Surely it's a good thing that anyone entering the country is aware of the law of the land. Some of this stuff isn't obvious. I wonder how many of the posters here know that the age of consent isnt 16 everywhere in Europe. it's 17 in Ireland, your teen boy on a Summer holiday can have consensual sex with a teenager and end up being branded a rapist. Its 15 in France as far as I know. I think everyone coming into any country regardless of their status of tourist, immigrant or asylum seeker should be informed of the age of consent and laws around drinking and clothing.

Why are you only bothered by black and brown men ignoring the ‘don’t rape women’ law? Why not white men?

It’s not skin colour ffs, this is about culture. Most of these men seeking to live in the UK come from countries where women are seen as less important than men. One example is child marriage - as young as 9 are fair game to be married off to men (in Yemen, it’s 7).

The rhetoric that this is racism has to change - this is a cultural difference and if they want sanctuary in the West, they have to accept that we have values and laws here that oppose their beliefs.

Some basic data from the MoJ

'Data from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), obtained by the the Centre for Migration Control think tank under freedom of information laws, has revealed that 26% of 1,453 sex assault convictions on women last year were foreign nationals.
Indian nationals accounted for the highest number in foreign national convictions in 2024, with 38.
Romanians nationals were second with 27 assault, joint with Polish nationals also on 27.
Pakistani nationals accounted for 20 sexual assault conviction while 19 Afghan nationals were convicted.

While accounting for 26% of sexual assault convictions last year, foreign nationals make up 10.9% of the population.
More than a fifth of all rape convictions last year were also foreign nationals.
They made up 155 of the 720 convictions for “rape of a female aged 16 or over”, with a further 42 convictions being an “unknown” nationality.'

There are examples in the news every day. And yes before you say but british men rape too, yes we know. We don't need more.

You do know the Centre for Migration Control is a one person 'think tank', with links to Reform, that was found to have falsified data in that report, right?

So if I understand he governmens thinking correctly, all those grooming gangs could very been stopped, if the evil, dirty, nonces had just been given this leaflet?

Thank god, we're all saved. 🙄

Agree - why do people think that? Emirati women holding degrees outnumber men! They're a highly educated population in general, the polor opposite of Afghanistan.

And it's safe despite high levels of immigrants because they do immigration correctly - people come in to work, not sit on benefits, and they're punished and deported if they do break the law.

The actual citizens are looked after and come first, as they should.

That is exactly what I want from my government and why I'm so angry that people from backward countries breaking into our country come first and decent taxpayers last. This and the last govt has no thought for the future and what things will need like for our children. And there are some countries that they will never send these men back to no matter what they do because of the threat to THEM (which is apparently why that pensioner rapist claimed to be Eritrean and probably isn't).

It explains the age of consent.

The every day British bloke will have been told the UK age of consent in a British school. An asylum seeker will not have been told the UK age of consent before, so it's probably a good idea he is told as soon as possible, isn't it?

The age of consent rules vary massively by country, and a lot of European countries allow under 16s to have close in age sexual partners legally, so it's not a fixed age - but 16 year olds are still subject to the close in age law, so that nauseating old men with 16 year olds scenarios which are legal in the UK are not legal in many European countries.

The age of consent in India and Turkey is 18... So any 19 year old having sex with a 17 year old on holiday in Turkey is breaking the law, but wouldn't be in the UK...

That's only for low skilled labour though. If you move for a corporate high skilled career, life can be very good for you. And not everyone on the lower rungs are abused.

Each new generation of men & women need to know the expectations off the society they are entering, whether born in the UK or elsewhere. In the same way as a family going to the US on holiday may not realise that their children can't drink until they are 21 regardless of the law in the UK.

Do you really believe that it's the first thing on the mind of those poor young people claiming asylum?

You are so right.

A European man going to the USA may not know about smoking or drinking laws. These are nuances.

Nonetheless, they will know that you cannot rape a woman, have sex with a 10 year old, mutilate a girl's genitals (FGM) ...some of the examples given in the booklet.

That's because they come from civilised countries.

All the time, people were saying these people from uncivilised countries were committing these crimes, they were poo poohed by the Home Office and other liars or idiots.

Now it seems, the Home Office have-by the very publication of this pamphlet- accept this.

I am sick of fools coming along and saying, British men do this too.

I know that they are stupid and one shouldn't take them to task-no one can help being stupid-but just because we have home grown scum bags should not be justification for importing more.

I really think people who offer this up as a reason for importing uncivilised people into this country should have the vote taken away from them and given to their dog instead, who would probably show more sense!

Way to ignore the main point.

I'll simplify it for you:

war poor country= bad, scary, no go, bad man no punishment
no war wealthy country = ok go, bad man follow law

Hope it's clear now

I don't think you're in any position to imply that other posers are thick and ignorant when you thought Dubai was a country.

Yes and not so much even that they ignore it, they just simply don't believe it.

If anyone thinks an Afghan man will read that a woman does not need permission from a man to do various things and thinks he will say,

"Ah, thank God for the light. Now I see that I and my ancestors have been wrong for centuries, I will change my ways! Thank the Lord for this booklet showing me the way!

If anyone does think that, they should not leave home without their mother!

Menopausalsourpuss · 20/08/2026 09:59

Yes the naievity is off the scale! I saw a programme TEN years ago where the Germans were teaching Syrian migrants about women's rights etc and knew then that it was pointless - culture is not something you can simply teach. I don't understand why people like Rhiannon Whytes mum are not able to sue the authorities (preferably individuals and not institutions) for putting their relatives in danger with their foolish policies.

You’re playing the same old game pretending that there are people calling for uncontrolled immigration.

When in reality most people are happy that net immigration has been reduced so much by Labour government.

The reality is that the UK has signed up to the ECHR, so we have to assess asylum requests.

You may choose to live in a non-reality where you can turn everyone away, but those of us who live in reality know that thats illegal.

I’d love to live in a world where men didn’t rape and sexually assault women, but until that day, of course men, of whatever race, should be told not to rape. Maybe if we taught it in schools too there wouldn’t be such an epidemic of violence against women in the UK, the majority of which is by white men.
