AIBU to think if we need to politely ask men not to rape women (or men), then we don't want such people in the UK?

Don't rape, sexually assault or make kissing noises' at people, asylum seekers warned in guidance about living in UK
UK arrivals have been told to treat women equally, not sexually assault partners or have sex with children in a new Home Office pamphlet. As well as the guidebook, a series of posters have also been designed by the government.

We can’t

I used to be a teacher. We had a girl once from Denmark who was training to be a teacher and needed a dbs. It took six months and she had to be accompanied at all times until it came through,

and that’s Denmark which is a developed Western European nation,

there’s absolutely no way to check for all previous crimes in all countries.

there’s absolutely no way to check for all previous crimes in all countries.
True but these offenders are travelling around Europe. These crimes are happening in Europe, surely at least Europe could develop a sufficient database to record incidents.
The cat is well out of the bag. In the last few weeks alone, volunteers, the lady in Greece found in a suitcase, the lady in Ireland Jamey Carney found with her head caved in, the staff member in England stabbed thankfully survived while on duty looking after these people.

Ok, that’s a list.

on a personal level I have been to Laos and I’m not sure why it’s on the list to be honest, it struck me as a fairly standard East Asian developing nation. Obviously communist but I’m not sure what that has to do with rape rates.

but then the obvious response is that the nationalities that top the rape rate in the U.K. (Indians, poles and Romanians) are not on that list. Why are they not on the list?

Laos ranks high in VAWG because of sexual trafficking.
But so does Thailand.
Which passes the ' Would you want to go on holiday there?".
Yes, I would actually.

We are not the USA, I hope. Why do we need to follow their list?

Mumterz · 19/08/2026 23:54

Octavia64 · 19/08/2026 23:52

That’ll be why Laos is on it then it’s still officially communist.

btw the uk offers scholarships to students from Laos to come and study here. Chevening scholarships.

You're going into that minute and saying oh look here and there.

We can make a list. We can check it twice. We can exclude who is naughty and needs to be deported by ICE.

It won't be perfect but it would at least be something.

That’s kind of my point.

there’s very few countries in the world that have the (relatively) low levels of misogyny that you get in Britain (at least compared to some of the violence against women in most of Africa and Asia and frankly most of the rest of the world).

the only nations that are likely to have similar rape rates to the uk when measured accurately are the other Western European nations, plus Canada/NZ/australia and maybe the US.

They have many many countries I would exclude though. Would you not have a list at all?

LobeliaBaggins · 19/08/2026 23:57

Oh, now we have ' shit hole nations' as a criteria. Problem solved then.
We can let Trump make our decisions for us.

OtterlyAstounding · 19/08/2026 23:58

I just don't know why people are so keen on allowing unskilled, frequently traumatised asylum seeker men from cultures with extreme rates of misogyny and sexual violence, who will be socialised to view women as lesser, and who see sexual violence towards women as normalised, into their country.

Like, why? Seriously, what's the benefit to the women and girls in that country? Or the men, for that matter?

It is unbelievable that some people support this madness, society is changing rapidly and not for the better.

The uk lost access to a lot of the data sharing around Europe with Brexit.

The recent Labour government have organised rejoining some of the important stuff see eg here on sharing car number plate data:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-police-data-sharing-to-target-organised-crime

The new ESS will track non EU visitors to the EU (including brits) and will help keep track of where people are. I don’t think the U.K. will have visibility of that data at the moment - the system only rolled out a few weeks ago (and promptly crashed under the load)

UK police to access European vehicle data in seconds, accelerating organised crime investigations.

Shame the EU chose to be vindictive and not give a major ally data that could be used to prevent crime.

That’s not necessarily true. There is still a lot of support from European countries in the EU in the UK. The UK and Ireland have a special relationship with access to free travel etc, they definitely share data when they can be bothered.
The fact of the matter is that very few people in government across the entire European Union want to take action to stop this. I don’t understand their motive but it isn’t that the UK is alienated from the EU.

Well, on a personal level I quite liked Laos.

no, my point is that if the uk actually restricted immigration to only Western Europe plus Canada/america/NZ/australia then

the universities would go bust (they have massive numbers of international students from China, Middle East, India, Pakistan, etc)

the nhs would implode (even faster than it is at the moment) as many nurses and doctors are recruited internationally - Kenya, Pakistan, India, Nigeria, Ghana, etc

social care would fall apart - many carers in nursing homes and who drive around doing home care are again, Indian, Pakistani, Eastern European, Nigerian, Ghanaian etc.

agriculture would really struggle - I live in the fens and there are gangs of Eastern Europeans who do the harvesting and come into the country on temporary agricultural visas

etc etc

You are falling to acknowledge that these people are sponsored on working or education visas. They haven’t landed here on a rubber boat in an orange jacket, they’ve applied to come to Europe.
My Dsis is a care home manager. A lot of the staff are from foreign countries, they’re sponsored by the company.
It isn’t about where people come from, it’s about how they got here and what their motives are.
Not those who apply to work and or study.

It's bizarre to me that people actually try to argue that men from places like Sudan, Eritrea, Iran, Afghanistan, Somalia etc aren't more of a risk to women, given how women in those places are treated. It's utterly nonsensical. I have to think they know how ridiculous they're being, but they persist anyway. Why?

Suicidal empathy. And once the 200,000 (yes, that’s right) young men (with more coming in daily) start occupying parks, sitting on ledges catcalling women (already happening in Central London), it will be too late for the hand maidens. By that point, those who have money and resources will have left the UK, seeing the waiting on the wall. The handmaidens are welcome to these people from medieval and misogynistic cultures. My sympathies are with those would never supported it, were sneered at for being “far-right” when calling out the obvious dangers, and who will have to suffer the consequences of the “be kind” acts of the treacherous (and I think fundamentally stupid) handmaidens.

Didn't say restrict just heavily heavily prioritise and favour. And massively restrict or bring to near 0 from those culturally incompatible with ours

Maddy70 · 20/08/2026 00:26

That info is given out in schools also.
I personally base. Nothing wrong with it , different cultures have different expectations. Remember "my fat gypsy wedding" where the boys "grab" a girl they want to partner

Trumps travel ban seems to completely ban anyone from that country from going to the US at all.

(I’m not familiar with it and I’m basing this on the bbc article which I read)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cz6329yvwdvo

so if we use trumps travel ban as a model then yes international students and workers from those countries would be banned.

(his list mostly seems to be to do with visa problems plus some countries he doesn’t like)

Donald Trump points while sitting in the Oval Office.

Why has Trump banned travel from these 12 countries?

The new restrictions primarily affect African and Middle Eastern nations, with a range of justifications given.

Good idea.
For asylum seekers or work/ study visas? As said above, the Trump travel ban applies to all citizens of those countries. So if so many posters think Trump has great ideas, we should do that.
