I got the train after work today and realised people just have no manners at all. Barging on the train before people had got off, not pausing to allow people out of their seats when getting off, being noisy and disruptive, just generally being unpleasant.

AIBU to ask what is wrong with people and when did we become like this? It’s sad!

I hope this is tongue in cheek

Just like adults there is a mix of characters.

The majority of teenagers are decent human beings.

Where? Genuinely?

Personally I reckon it all got so much worse after COVID, I unfortunately live in a tourist destination (no, I can't leave before anyone jumps down my throat) & the levels of entitlement, rudeness & sheer selfish twattery is unbelievable. I'm not a fan of this modern soft parenting nonsense either....

Gentle parenting is on the cusp of being debunked, I think.

So don't imagine and actually search or sit back down.

OK. I'll be plain. There is no pattern on MN of men posting they have been yelled at for opening doors for women and this has caused them not to hold doors.
If there are even any such posts (which there may be, as this is MRA rhetoric and they do post here) they will be so few the data they offer will be such a tiny sample it will be meaningless.
However, if you're insistent on doubling down on your silly remark, maybe you'd like to run the search and prove me wrong rather than trying to save face by suggesting a fools errand?
Posts from men saying they are frightened to hold doors because women have yelled at them. Enough to show a meaningful pattern. I'll sit down. And wait....

I’m going to get piled on here I’m sure but I think one thing that isn’t helping is the constant “be kind you don’t know what else is going on” thing. Every time someone is behaving badly you get so many people excusing them or saying well they have or might have “condition” so don’t say anything. As soon as anyone says anything to anyone about a certain behaviour the person behaving badly screams discrimination. So the people who used to say things stopped. And also have got to the point of saying well fuck it. If everyone else can behave how they want then I will as well. I’ve been a rule follower my whole life. I never so much as even had a detention at school. Even I’ve got to the point of thinking fuck it.

I refuse to believe “nice” teenagers exist at this point. They all seem feral these days.

How many teenagers do you meet on a day to day basis?

I have met lots of nice ones.

You probably don't notice them out in public because they aren't the ones who stand out - they're just going about their business like the majority of other people.

An elaborate bow with an icy "Oh no, thank you", is the correct response to such people (just out of earshot, of course - I'm a coward at heart).

Or, "Well, fuck you very much", said in a cut glass accent.

Totally disagree. If you think they are being rude (maybe they are just very distracted by what's going on in their head), then why would you model rudeness back to them? I think that is worse than someone forgetting to say thank you - I've done it sometimes inadvertently, not because Im a rude person.

Oh I've just remembered the ultimate. Recently went to maternity unit for monitoring. There are three chairs on the ward where you wait to be registered, triaged etc. Heavily pregnant women coming in at regular intervals, very often with partners. One woman was moved onto a bed on the ward, man accompanying another woman sank into the seat she had vacated. New pregnant lady arrived shortly after and he Didn't Stand Up.

OMG! Unbelievable!!!

Agree and I've never been convinced that anyone changes their behaviour for the better in response to this. It's just an ego boost for the passive aggressive person.

Yes, honestly. My 2 are genuinely lovely people as are their friends and their nieces and nephews. They do exist. I think you're just noticing the scroats (which is understandable).

Its minority probably, the same as adults, but i dont think teenagers are worse. Its humans in general.

You’ve been lucky so far. Haven’t you seen cases in the news where people have been stabbed or beaten to a pulp for daring to tell strangers off (or even look at them in an offensive manner sometimes)

No I haven't, but i made a conscious decision on calling it out, along with misogyny, racism etc, a few years ago. I guess it's fear that stops people insisting on proper behaviour and that's a huge issue and a huge shame. I was brought up with the concept that my behaviour in public should never impact on anyone else, and that's a good standard to live by.

I'm on holiday in the UK at the moment. Walking round a city centre yesterday as DP and DD wanted to do some shopping, so ended up in a lot of shops teenagers frequent with DD. Largely they were all absolutely normal. Some stopped to let me through the door first, that sort of thing. Saw a couple of bellends, but to be honest I saw a couple of 60 something's behaving worse.

If you only look for thee dickheads, then all you'll see is dickheads. But that doesn't mean the majority are dickheads.

People have just become self absorbed !
I.always wait for people to disembark before I get the tube lol 😁
As for teenagers it's just normal bravado in most cases but sometimes it can go to far only the other day there was a huge group of lads coming towards me shouting and making a racket holding a huge stick then they saw me with my puppies and they were awwww look a puppy 😁 it actually made me chuckle to myself !

What Princess ofWills said.

Standards diluted with the introductuon of huge comps imo. I try really hard at checkouts to be charming, rather than comment on the lack of please and thank you. I find the lads more personable.

What rot!

ime, it’s the posher kids/people who are entitled and rude.

loud, bargy and seemingly oblivious of everything around them.

im regularly disappointed in how many private schools turn out their kids.

Then we must differ on our opinions but respect them, rather than alluding to rot.
