Reform want to cut PIP

1000 replies

Daygloboo · 16/08/2026 09:15

Reform want to cut benefits for disabled people. They want businesses to pay more towards sickness etc. I find it repulsive that they want to do this. When will people understand that they are a bunch of self interested sharks who want to make a stack of dosh for themselves while in govt and that they font give a damn about anyone in need. Why cant the most vulnerable ppl who vote for them see thus. It's astonishing. It's ac joke. I eish ppl who get what Reform.iscreally about and how it manipulates would make sn extra effort to tslk to.ppl who dont seem to get it.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this thread.

Disability Living Allowance is the payment for eligible children under 16

PIP is the payment for people between 16 and state pension age

Attendance Allowance is for applicants over state pension age.

Edited

And PIP carries on above pension age if given indefinitely. Above pension age a person cannot make a new application for PIP. That defers to Attendance Allowance.

Cushionseams · 16/08/2026 10:56

They didn't bother to release any information about what they would replace it with.
Probably because they have absolutely not got a fucking clue.

I think they're showing themselves to be what they are. And those who have voted for them might come to their senses.

If they didn’t bother to release any information about what they’re replacing it with then how did I know what the replacement scheme would be called?

Twogreenbottles · 16/08/2026 10:26

PIP is awarded based on how your condition affects your daily living and mobility needs — not on your ability to work. You could be a full-time company director earning six figures and still qualify for PIP if you meet the criteria. 😮

That’s part of the issue. No one earning a six figure salary should be entitled to any benefit. Just like you won’t be entitled to child benefit if you earn that level of salary.

What a load of, er, bollocks.

Except it's not.

His day to day living is completely unaffected.

He was only in pain with limited movement for 6 weeks.

I find it weird that the “I work really hard and what do I get?” crowd don’t focus their ire on housing prices, energy costs, the rising cost of a weekly shop, the job market, stagnant salaries, huge businesses avoiding tax, the cost of living in general or anything else making life difficult right now and instead think, “well, I’d be fine if disabled people had their benefits cut!”

its not either/or we can have a probably with both.

😲

Highest rate of DLA is £194.60 per week. Pp is talking rubbish.

YourAmplePlumPoster · 16/08/2026 10:59

If you take a lot of people off benefits there will be civil unrest.

Indeed. The nonsense just keeps on coming!

happybug1234 · 16/08/2026 10:53

Sorry correction - £3112 a month for 3 children

That’s not true. The highest DLA award possible is high rate care and high rate mobility. That is £194.60 per week, which is £778.40 per 4 weeks. Three lots of HRC/HRM is £2335.20 per month. Most DC are not receiving HRC/HRM. You clearly don’t understand DLA or PIP.

Sarah2891 · 16/08/2026 11:01

A lot won't care, sadly. The most racist of the Reformers are fully focused on foreigners. That comes above everything else.

You seem to be having a lot of trouble getting your facts right, as is evident from your posts.🙄

Yes I made an error in the calculation which I corrected…

Read the post properly. I didnt refer to disabled people, I referred to the idlers who dont want to work and are being encouraged to stay idle by the benefits system

You do realise that PIP is not an out of work benefit?

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/08/2026 09:29

I'm glad they have announced this because it might make some of their supporters stop and think as it will apply to a lot of them.

You would hope so, but I suspect many of them will be like MAGA supporters, believing "China will pay the tariffs".

KnittingBasket · 16/08/2026 10:28

10 years ago 52% of the UK population paid tax.
Now it's 64%.

"

Yes but how do the figures match with how much has the population increased in ten years ? That was my query.

More people should be more tax. In the 1960’s there were fewer people. So less tax you would expect comparative to today. Because of the fewer people.
So has the taxpayers paying tax increased in line with the population increase ?

If you take a lot of people off benefits there will be civil unrest.

Then they will be processed through the courts. You don’t see these kind of problems in the UAE.

No one is targeting or bashing those genuinely in need. Wouldn’t you rather see those milking the system weeded out so that genuine claimants like yourself can get more help? Or don’t you really care that there are people abusing the system? There aren’t enough Fraud investigators looking into this abuse. Not to sound boring and predictable, but my mother has a next door neighbour, nice guy, and who gets PIP for a back condition, and who helped another neighbour carry in a washing machine last week. Madness…..

How will Reform cut admin costs whilst simultaneously 'weeding out those milking the system'?

It's a genuine question.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 16/08/2026 09:58

The benefits bill is not "crippling" the UK. This is utterly baseless, ideologically motivated shite, designed to pander to lowest common denominator vindictiveness, and people too bloody stupid to realise they are swallowing down nonsense.

Very nearly a quarter of all government spending, or £320 billion pounds that's pretty huge.

in fairness (not that I get anything for me or my back!) but after years of lifting elderly folks my back is very delicate and I’d still help someone carry something knowing full well I’d be in agony. Some people and I include myself are just very eager to help and be useful. Especially since I don’t work, I think it gives me some sense of pride, to even if very minimally have helped, at least I’ve helped. (I recently helped my neighbour carry a fridge!)

I do appreciate that people are worried about those fiddling the system but I don’t really know how they do it without swindling their doctors and other medical professionals to get the evidence. My evidence I used was from schools, paediatrics, other people like speech and language letters etc and I get lower rate mobility because he can walk, he just is a risk whilst out and can’t go on public transport without 2 adults on him. I have no idea how you’d get a car if your evidence wasn’t fully supportive that you’re entitled to one.

@Jellycatspyjamas and @x2boys those are good points and I agree it can sometimes add general costs or make it harder to work.
i receive DLA for one of my dc with autism. I have additional costs such as continence products, replacing clothes that she chews through, and household items that she destroys. But truthfully if I’m honest in our particular case what we get (she was awarded middle rate care and lower rate mobility I think), is quite a lot and is more than the costs I incur Id say. I try to remember it’s “hers” and it does mean I can take her to things she might enjoy without worrying about what if we have to leave half way through and have wasted money etc. but it just feels like quite a blunt instrument.

If you look at Scope’s disability price tag research, for the majority, the money they receive in disability benefits is less than their disability related costs. For many significantly less.

Yes my sons DLA is part of our general income as will his PIP be once its awarded
But we spend a fortune on clothes , furniture etc as hes so destructive
Hes flooded the bathroom and kitchem several times causing a lot of damage as hes obssessd with running water.

Has DS had a home OT assessment? That can look at locks for taps or even bathroom/kitchen doors.
