Omg? First use of the government phone alerts, i think??

Not sure why people would want to turn off alerts, surely they are a good thing, how bizarre, agree probably wasn't warranted in this instance but please keep the alerts on, could really help you and your family x

Yes. There’s some stupid idiots using disposable BBQ’s and having garden fires. The whole country is basically tinder at this point and some people still aren’t taking it seriously. We are extremely lucky the fires so far haven’t killed anyone.

My county fire department are now posting a few times daily basically pleading people to not light flames outside, bbqs etc. People in the community pages are laughing about having a bbq etc ffs

All the comments about it being in Welsh first, or disappearing when clicked (I can still see it on my iPhone if I swipe down from the top to bring up past notifications) etc - isn’t that all really good, useful feedback for if they do need to send one re imminent danger? The people organising and implementing it are humans after all, some stuff will be missed or overlooked.

However furious people are that it didn’t say ‘you’re going to die in 3 minutes HTH’ because that’s apparently the only acceptable use - surely it’s good that this one wasn’t imminent danger and any bugs can be rectified?

I do hope there will be some opportunity to feedback or report what didn’t work somewhere, that would make sense.

It’s become common parlance for “something very serious and imminent”, rather than an indication that a great number of people worry about nuclear bombs daily.

If you are in a DV situation & using a spare secret phone to make plans to get safe or check in with services turning these alerts off is vital. Keeping them on puts people (mostly women) at risk 😞

If I were you I'd be shitting myself over how easy it is was for me to shit myself.

I have just had a second one. The first one frightened the life out of me and the second one not much better.

What a bunch of over reacting whingers.There have been some terrible wildfire fires within miles of where I live.I feel so desperately sorry for those who have lost their houses.Lives are a risk with every wildfire and there have been 1000 significant ones this summer.Therefore it is of national importance. A few seconds of a loud signal on a phone is not a hardship if it just makes one person think twice about lighting a bbq or campfire in present conditions I for one will be grateful.

I won’t be turning mine off.

I still think an alert system should be for an immediate emergency response.

A nationwide text could have been sent for a ban on outside fires rather than using the alert system.

I work with a lot of Welsh people - all their kids learn Welsh at school so they always get them to translate!

A friend of mine lost her house a few years ago in Dagenham due to wildfires. That’s not far from central London.

I thought i had left the oven on and fire alarm was starting. Then realised what it is. I wasn't panicked, frightened or anything else. If they use them too often people won't take notice. Localised for situations, like a wildfire spreading, yes, blanket 'don't bbq,' they could just put it in papers, on tv or social media.

I was out on a lovely evening walk, listening to a nice soothing audiobook, then get damn near deafened through my earphones with that dreadful racket. Just to tell us that it's been a bit hot and everywhere is rather dry at the moment. Yeah, like we haven't noticed.

Yes I did read it thanks ii said you should not undertake anything that could start a fire so barbecues, garden incinerators etc. Not that they're banned?

It just sounded as though you took it personally when you said “I’m obviously expendable”.

Lots of people on my FB didn’t get the alert and none of them are disabled.
