To ask if you think the prime minister has a democratic duty to house asylum seekers in middle class areas

By which I mean, would most voters support this as opposed to a change in policy to refuse in greater numbers? I honestly can't tell what "the majority" actually wants. I would prefer fewer having seen how things went in Germany thanks to the Merkel wave but I am willing to believe I'm a backwards old boomer and a majority would be more welcoming.

They (UK governments) tend to say they have no choice due to the echr but this isn't true. There are a lot of operational choices they could make (eg sometimes when people are denied entry at the border they are actually allowed into the country for a few days and instructed to report back to the airport when it's time for the removal flight).

Yes, I think it mentioned 52(?) suicides.

It’s utterly tragic and it makes me angry that their pain and suffering is being forgotten about by the rabid pro Palestine mob.

Oh those on the right side of history? I don't know about you but I feel quite content with my life choices.

I know this area a little bit and I suspect some of the population may have moved there to get away from London and the rapidly changing demographics perhaps?

I don't know it very well tbh, I had a school friend from there and occasionally went to the pub many years ago! And we rescued a dog from the dogs home :) But I'm from a different Chilterns village the other side of Wycombe, and I think most are fairly similar culturally. It's proper Tory heartlands, in the sense we always voted Conservative. Until a few years ago, when we moved to Lib Dem. (I was living in the town that started it, Amersham - we made the international news by not voting Tory! Labour lost their deposit.)

I wouldn't imagine there are huge numbers of ex-Londoners in Piddington itself, as it really would be quite the culture shock; I think most of the Londoners end up in towns, or big villages like Hazlemere. We certainly got a lot in Amersham, especially as we were on the tube. Piddington might be the second stop after moving out of London, but I would guess most of the inhabitants are originally from nearby.

I'm also not sure what the demographics are there, the whole area's pretty multi-ethnic these days, even the villages. But outside of Wycombe and a few other places, people are mostly fairly similar culturally. And I would have thought anyone trying to avoid either multiethnicity or multiculturalism would want to be a good deal further away from Wycombe than Piddington is!

Well, put it this way; have a look at the security at any synagogue, and compare it to that of any church.

Higher security at a location does not prove higher risk. Not having security doesn’t make you safe. The little girls murdered at a Taylor Swift event didn’t have any security. They were still murdered.

I don’t know why you feel the need to argue against my claim that white people feel unsafe. I’m not denying that Jewish people feel unsafe. Both groups feel unsafe. Is that controversial?

Same here.

This is what I find baffling; that those people actually think they are the ones on the right side.

Intimidating the Jewish community and hitting a policewoman with a sledgehammer.

Showing no sympathy by people so traumatised by a terrorist attack that they die by suicide most certainly does not put you on the right side of anything.

Also, anyone who ever seriously describes
themselves as on “the right side of history” is sanctimonious. If you were so confident in your position you could argue it without an appeal to authority.

edit: sorry, just realised you were being sarcastic! Clearly I’m a fool

I don’t think they’ll be incarcerated, they will be free to leave. You could have a different system whereby people apply outside but how would you deal with arrivals by international law at the shore?

Say you accept 30k the hard part is not having more people arrive outside that as possible by law, how would you stop that?

Plus as seen in Ceuta the demand for any route can be overwhelming, how would you deal with that?

I’d imagine the barracks situation would be similar to that ship that was moored off the Dorset coast. Technically the residents would be free to leave barracks, but there are not many places to go in rural Oxfordshire for people with no money or transport.

The honest truth that politicians can’t seem to get across is that you can’t truly control the numbers. To manage flows of people better, the improvements would be: the government set up claim processing before people reach the UK, better agreements with neighbouring countries, faster removals for unsuccessful claimants, stronger border enforcement.

But as you point out, even these will result in strain if demand gets higher in the future. Which it is likely to do, with tens of millions predicted to be fleeing war and inhospitable climate over the coming decades.

The longer-term solutions for managing larger numbers of migrants lie less in border policy and more in ways to reduce the numbers who feel compelled to migrate in the first place - investment in climate adaptation, economic development, conflict prevention work and international agreements for managing migration. Items that the foreign aid budget pay for.

Ignore all this, I was talking about Piddington Bucks 🤦‍♀️I obviously need to read the news more closely...!

It’ll get to the point when people can longer assume it is the toothless underclass and working class who have concerns, using insults like knuckle dragging or uneducated. Those insults are used to ensure that people don’t step outside the box, so they don’t get accused by being racist, uneducated and ignorant, they keep the head down and only discuss it with those closest to them.

Signed.

We also need limit that can claim asylum in each year and when that number is hit ,that's it for the year.

I read something awful the other day. The boyfriend of one of the 07 October victims (sorry, I can’t remember any names) shot himself at her grave.

He couldn’t cope with the grief anymore.

Yet you never hear anything about the attacks on that day in 2023 anymore. Or the suffering of those who survived.

Horrendous. Worse - I've actually seen it minimised on here, and posters deny that the women were victims of SA.

I don’t think foreign aid can get close to doing much to resolve issues. We can barely cover our state funding and drive up debt each year which costs £100bn in servicing.

I think a system where a small amount of people are vetted, housed and work could have been accepted a decade or so ago but it’s only possible if international laws are overruled which is the hard part.

Now politicians say they can do something and overtime dissatisfaction grows so I’m not sure even if they did that the window of opportunity is closing.

On leaving the barracks I suppose that’s part of the concern, bored men with not much to do.

It’s a while ago but there was a Christian preacher who talked a lot about this a lot about end times.

too much to go into

thing like control by food shortages and not allowing people to use cash

The Tory government had a good plan in Rwanda, until the human rights AKA judges put a stop to that. It's that kind of pragmatism we need now.

GunnelVallquist · Today 16:36

Do all those in favour of uncontrolled immigration actually care that Europe is going down the pan?

Many years ago while talking about travel and favourite destinations someone said to me their favourite continent is Europe.

Because it’s made up of so many different countries, each with their own language/ dialect, food, heritage, weather etc.

What she said really stuck with me because I thought how right she was and how lucky we were to live on this diverse continent with easy travel.

And also (I think I mentioned it on the previous thread) all of Europe had similar values.

To think that some people don’t want to preserve this (what’s left of it!) and call those that want to do so racist/ xenophobic makes me both angry and sad.

This is our culture. Our heritage.

They should vote for Nigel Farage and The Reform Party next General Election if they have any sense his party is the only one who will put an end to this immigration madness.

How will he do that?
