By which I mean, would most voters support this as opposed to a change in policy to refuse in greater numbers? I honestly can't tell what "the majority" actually wants. I would prefer fewer having seen how things went in Germany thanks to the Merkel wave but I am willing to believe I'm a backwards old boomer and a majority would be more welcoming.

They (UK governments) tend to say they have no choice due to the echr but this isn't true. There are a lot of operational choices they could make (eg sometimes when people are denied entry at the border they are actually allowed into the country for a few days and instructed to report back to the airport when it's time for the removal flight).

That would ne understandable (they would bring their prejudices with them) but I think the majority of the reported attacks were by pro-Palestinian crowd emboldened by the recent acceptance of a very negative view of Israel as a state and Jewish culture in general.

Many in Windrush already felt pretty British, they were taught more about British history, literature, geography etc than their own. They were culturally very close to us, as they were full citizens of the British Empire. It was shocking - and of course horrifically upsetting - when they discovered we didn't always feel the same about them. I don't think anyone doubts that eager, hardworking people (of any ethnicity) from culturally-aligned countries, who already love their new homeland and want to play their part in improving it, are a huge benefit to society, both economically and socially.

Random men from diametrically opposed cultures who show nothing but disdain and revulsion at their new country, and its culture, people and history, are really not the same as the Windrush migrants, and it is extremely offensive to lump them together.
