To ask if you think the prime minister has a democratic duty to house asylum seekers in middle class areas

By which I mean, would most voters support this as opposed to a change in policy to refuse in greater numbers? I honestly can't tell what "the majority" actually wants. I would prefer fewer having seen how things went in Germany thanks to the Merkel wave but I am willing to believe I'm a backwards old boomer and a majority would be more welcoming.

They (UK governments) tend to say they have no choice due to the echr but this isn't true. There are a lot of operational choices they could make (eg sometimes when people are denied entry at the border they are actually allowed into the country for a few days and instructed to report back to the airport when it's time for the removal flight).

Well I mean there was a far right plot just a few weeks ago to target an Islamic event where a bunch of white (you might refer to them as 'native') British men got arrested, so I think that proves that we are all as bad as each other actually.

I think you have the wrong poster. I never once claimed that.

I think this one is particularly sickening. They have literally got refugee status, and this is how they choose to behave.

There are so many just like that judging from the news.

What I hate the are women defending by saying well we have English men that abuse women and children. Yes we do but why add to the mix?

I think housing in old army bases is a good idea but they shouldn’t be let out to mix with the general population. We had 500 migrants put in hotels where I live and it was awful, harassing women including underage girls. I suppose the only thing is leafy area tends to be more liberal minded so if they are then I’m sure they won’t mind.

Anyone that turns up with no papers should never be allowed in. I quite like how Poland just won’t put up with a lot of immigration.

Yes, or the silly "we're all as bad as each other"! So that's a good idea to import more criminals and sexual exploitation gangs?
Bizarre.

Badbadbunny · Yesterday 15:14

It's clearly the politics of hate, spite and envy in play yet again.

A bit like how our Labour controlled council closed down several libraries which all just happened to be in Tory voting villages and small towns! Funny that.

None in Labour villages were closed.

It makes more sense to house them where there are cheap and plentiful availability of housing. So, yes, sadly, the already run down areas. But if the local police/councils were given adequate funding, they could be controlled and not cause local disruption/crime/anti social behaviour etc. Trouble is that wherever they're put, the police/councils don't get enough funding to actually supervise and control them, so crime and A/s behaviour will almost inevitably increase.

If anything, they need to spread very thinly across all areas of the country, so that any potential negative effects are diluted. Housing them in huge numbers in ANY small area is going to cause problems.

Alright, so why bring up that news article about an alleged crime commited by Afghani men? Don't you know that you are enabling people who are migrophobic to spread their anti-migrant rhetoric?

Don't you know that most migrant crimes in this country are actually committed by white British men?

It seems really short sighted on so many levels.

In some of those cultures child sex is acceptable - hence the grooming gang scandal.

Anyone who arrives on a boat should be sent back immediately, but how can that even be achieved?

Well, we could send them abroad for processing somewhere else, such as maybe Rwanda?? We'd already set up that system, but along come Labour and one of the first things they did was scrap the Rwanda scheme!

I never said they weren't.

But why risk allowing even more potential rapists and murderers into the country? Make it make sense! Just because some white men do it doesn't mean we should open the flood gates for asylum seekers to come in and do it too!

BBC News - Seven Afghan men charged over child sexual exploitation
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3e2wzpe7xjo
All of these men have refugee status.

This is a basic failure of the government. I’m not sure why anyone is ok with it.

How are girls and women treated in Afghanistan? Chattel, they can literally be bought and sold. They have no human rights, not even the right to speak. It's tragic.
In all honesty, I would offer asylum to Afghan girls and women - as many as possible!

I can foresee that there will be an incident so outrageous that it will kick off some kind of mass rioting a bit like last year. Especially as it's a long hot summer.

I just don't understand why we keep doing it. I'd take a really hard line and not take any single men at all. I don't see the point of all the downsides of Brexit and we are still taking the bad things (uncontrolled borders and those stupid bottle top tethers). The fact that it keeps happening when it seems so stupid makes me think I must be out of step because if I had the power to decide we would be emptying all those guys out toute de suite.

Are you for real? The uncontrolled boat crossings are all due to Brexit. We can’t return migrants back to France like we could when we were part of the EU where we had reciprocal agreements. Before Brexit we had 299 people per year in 2018 now it’s around 15’000 and those figures are down over 40 percent. Half the country voted for this!

We shouldn’t be taking the huge numbers but make no mistake we lost control of our borders due to Brexit. Which has also made our country poorer too.

You’re missing asylum figures in early 2000s. It was 103k pre Brexit.

You’re also missing migration issues with EU countries.

Statistics show that crime has gone down as immigration to this country has increased. You should be more afraid of Dave and Gazza your local 'brickies' than these poor men fleeing persecution and oppression. Believe me, they are more afraid of you than you are of them.

Afghanistan’s previous minimum marriage age for girls by linking eligibility for marriage to puberty, which can begin as early as age nine.

Shocking, isn't it. Yet not to an Afghani as this is their culture.

So the BBC News story - Seven Afghan men charged over child sexual exploitation - shouldn't come as a surprise. Maybe it show the naivety and ignorance of politicians.

MaturingCheeseball · Yesterday 15:26

How DARE these men repay hospitality and their welcome to these shores by raping under-age girls? I note they all needed interpreters so no attempt to learn English, then.

Can any of our liberal friends defend this without resorting to the “white British men are rapists too”? Perhaps we should accept cultural differences and not even regard this sort of thing as a crime.

DebbieSavage · Yesterday 15:29

That really is a completely disingenuous way to frame the point I was making on that thread. Somebody made a crass comment about these men having no way to facilitate their 'repressed sexual urges' as if they were trash that nobody would ever look at twice and I simply stated that there would be plenty of local women who would be more than happy to date them actually. Many of them seem like very decent down to earth folk.

One despairs. Luckily I am almost 60 so I may have twenty or so years left.

I'd be interested in what the religion is of these people are

Top Overall Nationalities

Pakistan: Accounts for about 10% of total claims, with many applicants having initially entered the UK on work or student visas.
Eritrea: Accounts for about 9% of claims, making up a large share of small boat arrivals.
Iran: Represents roughly 8% of total applicants.
Afghanistan: Makes up about 7% of total claims and a high percentage of channel small boat arrivals.
Bangladesh: Accounts for roughly 6% of claims.

Small Boat Arrivals
Over half of the people arriving via small boat crossings across the English Channel belong to these five nationalities:
Eritrean (19%)
Afghan (12%)
Iranian (12%)
Sudanese (12%)
Somali (10%)

Isn't Islam the religion of the majority of these countries? What will happen when Islam becomes the majority religion in the UK?

As we know it is not a religion known to be kind to women, who are considered to be second class citizens.

Yes we have fought for religious freedom in the past, the English civil war for example.

I think some interpretations of Islam are still on par with religious believes of the 16th century
