NDN using our allocated parking space, not their own!

NDNUsingOurAllocatedParking · 12/08/2026 11:05

Our neighbours have started using our allocated parking space instead of their own allocated parking space.

We've spoken to them but they have continued. The view of their space is not a clear line of vision.

What to do next???

I'm a regular from the Pom Bear days, I know how much you all love a diagram, that's why I'm here, but no can do@theemmadilemma

Can't you make the diagram more elaborate so it is not obvious.

Ocelotfeet27 · 13/08/2026 19:29

What do you mean by permanent onstruction to their line of sight? Do you mean between their house and the space so they can't see the space feom the house, or it is more difficult to park in it due to an obstructed view? Either way they are being unreasonable. But we can't advise on what to do without more info eg in a block of flats I would get the building manager involved.

snowmichael · 13/08/2026 19:45

Put up a sign with a date that you start to charge from
£50 per day or part day has a nice round feel to it
It's your land, they can use it - for a price

Ladyfromthehill · 13/08/2026 19:49

Retrolady13 · 13/08/2026 10:10

I would talk to them first. If nothing changes, put a sign at the end "Reserved for no. (Your house)
Maybe you could draw them a diagram ... or not ... 🥄🤣

But they already have spoken to them and no joy?

Oh right. Sorry I'm one of those who should read the whole thread before commenting.
Still might be worth putting up a sign though.

Diagram would be a corker, but so outing.

Until I see a parking thread tax diagram I am on your neighbours side 😉😂

MeandT · 13/08/2026 20:01

I'll stick my neck out here @NDNUsingOurAllocatedParking and say I have NEVER understood the Mumsnet enthusiasm for a bollard in your own parking space.

I mean, what a longwinded PITA every single time to use something that is legally your property in the first place.

On the other hand, registering your parking space with a service like JustPark. Perhaps for an hourly fee of £20 and a very reasonable daily discount of £100? Put a couple of signs up at the end of your space. Take photos & pursue any loss in due course through the small claims court.

Or just knock their door the first time they do it after the signs go up to be kind. You could hand them a paper invoice with the web link with details of how to book it for future use. Should put them off a repeat episode more convincingly than asking nicely!

No, we're freehold

Then how can there be a "visitor loophole"? Loophole in what document?

Dilemma999 · 13/08/2026 20:21

Laughing at the diagram of a parking space being outing Grin

Do you both have gardens? If so start using theirs.

hahahaha

jetlag92 · 13/08/2026 20:52

just put a massive flower pot in your spot,

MummyWillow1 · 13/08/2026 21:03

Just park in front of their car when it is there. Block them in and make them come and find you when they need to leave.

If they continue, then do it again but then go away for the weekend by train.

CombatBarbie · 13/08/2026 21:24

How is a diagram identifying?? Ffs

As others suggested, block them in, ask them to move every single time....no matter the time!

Or put up a bollard.

CombatBarbie · 13/08/2026 21:29

But here in lies the problem, its illegal to obstruct access to a road/highway. Hence why you can have a car towed when you are on your drive and blocked in, but can do fuck all if drive is empty.

AudleyB · 13/08/2026 21:44

Assuming you’re in England or Wales, I wouldn’t block them in or put up a homemade £50-a-day sign. Either could create a fresh legal problem.

As you’re freehold, first check the transfer, title documents and estate plan. The important question is whether the space forms part of your title, whether you have an exclusive right to use it or whether it is allocated under an estate parking scheme. That should also clarify whether there really is any “visitor loophole”.

If the space is exclusively yours, parking there without permission may amount to trespass. Keep dated photographs and confirm in writing that they do not have permission to use it. A lockable bollard may be the simplest practical solution, but check the deeds and estate rules first in case consent is required.

This guide covers almost exactly this situation, including allocated spaces, bollards and what not to do:

NDNUsingOurAllocatedParking · 12/08/2026 11:18

Yes, they are using ours but leaving their own empty.

We use ours all the time, we're always coming and going.

You go and park in their space then

ElectoralControversy · 13/08/2026 22:50

Do the diagram but turn the cable box/electrical transformer obstruction into a line of penguins 🐧

Unless it is a line of penguins 🤔 then do something else

Edamcheese · 13/08/2026 23:09

You need to get your facts right first by checking if this parking space is on your deeds all legal with a diagram showing that space is yours ,If it’s your allocated space legally then take copies posting it and with a letter saying that if they don’t stop parking on your
private property you will take legal actions as they are trespassing. Those people who say park in their space are obviously not understanding what you are saying. You want to park on your own private allocated space , end off . It’s a bloody nuisance putting in a bollard or a lockable post ,you have to keep unlocking and locking it to get in and out of your car.
Just get the proof that it’s your private property and take it from there. No need for diagrams op you’ve explained it perfectly what the problem is.

k1233 · 13/08/2026 23:13

Where I park in the city, some of the reserved bays have fancy remote controlled bollards. That would solve your issue and be convenient for you.

NDN using our allocated parking space, not their own!
Francestein · 13/08/2026 23:39

Put a sign up stating that this is reserved for residents of unit/houses X. Get a letter from a solicitor advising them that by parking there they are occurring all towing and impound costs. Or maybe buy a boot on Amazon and charge them for parking.

I think the permanent obstruction is some sort of well known monument or something that will identify exactly where the op lives.

NDNUsingOurAllocatedParking · 13/08/2026 09:46

Because I'm a private person and when another neighbour told us they had clocked what was going on, although I felt good that they too know it is wrong, I felt sad that people can see us being targeted.

Would a flow diagram suffice? Drumroll please:

Our property > our allocated parking space

NDN > permanent obstruction to line of vision > NDN's allocated parking space

And their MIL, who has also freeloaded in our space, looks like a MNer, you know the type.

Why are you talking in riddles? Lots of old posters have gone OP, so all this 2005 shit falls flat.

And why are you not directly answering questions? Are you the PM or something? 😂

JustMerelyHere · 14/08/2026 00:19

YABU for not answering most of the questions including what the loophole is

Moomieboo · 14/08/2026 00:41

Can you not say "Oi knobhead stop using my space!!"

Gooseling · 14/08/2026 00:49

On the basis that you think a diagram would be “outing”, I am now firmly on your neighbours side.
