NDN using our allocated parking space, not their own!

NDNUsingOurAllocatedParking · 12/08/2026 11:05

Our neighbours have started using our allocated parking space instead of their own allocated parking space.

We've spoken to them but they have continued. The view of their space is not a clear line of vision.

What to do next???

Vaseline under their car door handle. Its not damage but it'll be unpleasant. Or park over both the spaces when you can.

My aim would be to appear like a mad bastard. The type you just can't win against.

What about that window paint people use at Christmas? (Would have to use it on the windows and avoid their car paint) It’s not permanent and needs to be scraped off. Make sure it’s not obscene so you don’t get charged.
”ATTN: TOW THIS CAR”
”No permission to park here”
”Park in own park”
”Private Property:- Fines being issued”

Agree with previous posts, paint your house number on the ground of your parking spot - also a plaque with ‘parking strictly for number …..’. Also agree install the bollard. I wouldn’t even bother engaging with them anymore clearly a waste of your time and if its freehold they are trespassing.

SRMtheOG · 14/08/2026 12:13

Anything done to your neighbour’s car that costs them time and/ or money to remedy or remove would be criminal damage. Don’t do it. (This excludes blocking them in as the vehicle is materially unaffected.)
I certainly wouldn’t install a bollard, but the idea of registering it as an official parking space is great! Easily reversed if necessary, and although specifically directed at your neighbours, it could easily be explained away as a sideline money spinner if they (dare) say anything.

Where we live we each have an allocated parking space and when we first moved in the neighbours were always using ours so I had a sign made saying “ private parking No10 parking only” that definitely helped and when we came home I found next door’s visitor using my space so I blocked her in and put a note on her car saying private space, plus took my time letting her out when she wanted to go! My advice would be a sign if possible on the wall, a bollard you have to unlock to put down to park in and if all else fails a letter preferably from your Solicitor. Remember you are Freehold so YOU have paid for that space.

Tuesdayschild50 · 14/08/2026 13:11

It's out of order I lived in an apartment many years ago I even had someone put a note on my car saying to move out of there space it wasn't there space ours went by plot numbers it was a nightmare when new people moved in.
I know its a pain but you have to keep fighting block them in whatever it takes ..im so glad im not there anymore .

Who is voting ‘You are being unreasonable’?
Of course OP isn’t being unreasonable…

“the likelihood of anyone you know being on here is slim”

Apparently there are 8 million unique monthly mumsnet users - equivalent to more than 10% of the UK population so not that slim. I’ve definitely recognised someone I know irl from what they’ve posted here.

Interesting, I can't imagine anyone I know being on here. I think they'd think I was a sad act for being on a message forum. I think it's international so I'd be interested to know the actual breakdown of UK users is and how they get the figures.

According to Google, users are “almost all” British. The certainly reflects my experience here over a couple of decades as well.

Probably no one I know would think I use mumsnet either, it’s not necessarily the people you think!

Having to get out and move a bollard every time I moved my car into or out of a space would be prohibitive, especially if it needed more than one.

Surely by now there should be bollards that are remote controlled like garage doors so there's be no need to get in and out of the car.

Put a bollard up

FFS. OP. You've been given the solution by countless contributors.
Stop pussyfooting around and tell us if you are taking this good advice.

And if not, then why not?

The best way to deal with this is to completely dig up your parking space under cover of darkness, to a depth of about twelve feet. Then cover the hole with a grey tarpaulin, so that it looks like a normal parking space. When your neighbour next parks there, they drive into the hole, you fill in with cement, and boom - problem solved. HTH.

Post of the week 😂😂!! Well done !

Our side of the green was full so dh parked at the side. Fully entitled to as our permit allowed. A whole school size litre of pva glue across the windscreen..
She was an awful woman who had claimed that spot...
