NDN using our allocated parking space, not their own!

NDNUsingOurAllocatedParking · 12/08/2026 11:05

Our neighbours have started using our allocated parking space instead of their own allocated parking space.

We've spoken to them but they have continued. The view of their space is not a clear line of vision.

What to do next???

What was Lemon Drizzle Cake Gate if it’s not too derailing. I remember ‘just take the cunting quiche Patricia’. That was an epic.

That is a line worthy of Victoria Wood's Kitty 😁

The chance of someone recognising your road and you from a badly draw diagram (we love them) is probably 0.000089%. Get on it!

So true, people always say it's outing, so ridiculous the likelihood of anyone you know being on here is slim. Plus they'd have to go ow I think that's sue she was moaning about her parking space 😂 what are the chances eh.

PrettyLittleRose · 12/08/2026 14:37

I know it's probably been said (CBA to RTFT sorry,) but why don't you use theirs?

travailtotravel · 12/08/2026 14:42

I think you should send them an invoice for parking charges ... it's a stark reminder it is your space that you own. You can pursue this through small claims if you want to ... Other option is a sign - 'unauthorised parking - vehicles will be towed' or clamped ... I think you can get companies to come round and do this. It'll cost you but the entertainment value would be immense.

When you say "allocated" parking space ,what do you mean exactly ,is it something formal in writing ?
When you spoke to your NDN about them using you allocated space what was there response?

Youhadrambledonfor18pages · 12/08/2026 14:56

Block them in, every time. Until they learn.

MissMoneyFairy · 12/08/2026 14:58

Girlwithavibe · 12/08/2026 12:01

You use theirs then simple!

That's exactly what they want, cf

The neighbours apparently prefer OP's space. Op says My space is superior due to the clear line of vision.

Why should she give up her space to them and let them win?
And there could be a problem if OP later wants to sell up and there's a dispute over the parking space.

“the likelihood of anyone you know being on here is slim”

Apparently there are 8 million unique monthly mumsnet users - equivalent to more than 10% of the UK population so not that slim. I’ve definitely recognised someone I know irl from what they’ve posted here.

ImpossibleGermany · 12/08/2026 15:06

FunnyOrca · 12/08/2026 14:28

Why even bring it to mumsnet if there’s no diagram?

What is it about this very simple and easy to understand scenario that you are incapable of grasping without one?

It's an allocated parking space and the person who is repeatedly using it is not the resident it's allocated to. Where the space lies on a diagram in relation to other spaces is neither here nor there.

Jesus OP, six page of this? Just get the bollard already, will you?

Retrolady13 · 12/08/2026 15:09

Would it matter if your diagram was 'outing'? There are far more potentially outing issues on MN than some cheeky parking.
Incidentally, unless I've missed it, why haven't you just asked them? Also, surely they don't leave their car there permanently, can't you just move your car when they're out?
This is turning into another of those legendary MN threads along with Lemon Drizzle Cake! #CarSpaceGate?

99bottlesofkombucha · 12/08/2026 15:10

Borrow a second car. Park it in your space. Compete solidly for theirs for a couple of weeks. Suggest to them that if you could each stick to using your own space then the second car would disappear.

MarthaLovesLaughing · 12/08/2026 15:13

Fix a lockable bollard in your space

Borrow a car and park it in your space, then park in their space.

Speak to the council

Put notes on their windscreen

Ask a traffic warden to book them

Do something !

Whoopiedooo · 12/08/2026 15:16

Having to get out and move a bollard every time I moved my car into or out of a space would be prohibitive, especially if it needed more than one.

chickenpotnoodle · 12/08/2026 15:20

My NDN do the same - boils my p*ss.

I play the game and park as soon as they go out and leave it there - sadly they don't get the message.

Good luck with getting a resolution.

tomato22 · 12/08/2026 15:26

Can you just be petty and block them in? What would they do if you started parking in their space?
I hate people like your neighbour, totally selfish and entitled.

notanothernamesurely · 12/08/2026 15:46

Can you block them into this space?

Lovebombednotloved · 12/08/2026 15:55

To get their attention (preferably via a competent solicitor) send a letter threatening to seek injunctive relief, damages and costs. They're interfering with the quiet enjoyment of your property. Visibly record every time they park in your space. List the occasions when you have asked them to stop using your space. Start as you mean to go on....clearly they don't give a monkeys so threaten them with a legal remedy.

Elieza · 12/08/2026 15:56

could you speak to the other neighbours with spaces in good sight lines and see if they have had similar bother and how they handled it as the neighbours moved in to yours so whatever they did presumably worked.

IJustMight · 12/08/2026 16:11

Their unhappiness with their own space is not your problem to solve for them.

Bollard ... and in the meantime, are you allowed to put a notice up and tow?

JulietteHasAGun · 12/08/2026 16:17

Definitely get a penguin bollard. in the mean time block them in. If you’re freehold do you own the freehold of the parking space too?

JustAboutHangingInThere · 12/08/2026 16:17

Your neighbours are entitled twats. Block them in, every time, until you get a bollard in place.
