Not a huge fan of Labour I must say, but this is well overdue!

Have you got a source for that, please?

I've known 4 people who entered the UK as asylum seekers and got refugee status (3 as clients and one I know socially). All of them are working and earning decent money (one is a psychiatrist working in the NHS, another a surveyor, the third was a TEFL teacher). The friend who is the 4th one came here as an asylum seeker, got an archaelogy degree while waiting for her asylum application to be determined and is now running the education programme for a museum and two historic buildings. All working, paying tax and contributing to society.

Yeah the boats are full of psychiatrists and surveyors.

You are taking completely separate problems and conveniently attributing all of them to immigration.

Of course any woman raped in a park deserves justice, and if the offender has no legal right to remain here then he should face the criminal justice system and, where legally possible, deportation. But why are you using one horrific crime to characterise an entire population?

The actual picture of sexual violence is rather different from the stranger-in-the-park scenario you've chosen. ONS figures show that among victims of rape or assault by penetration, the perpetrator was far more commonly a partner or ex-partner than a stranger. Sexual violence against women was a serious problem in Britain long before small boats became today's political obsession.

As for the NHS, perhaps we should also look at ourselves. Adult obesity in England has risen from 15% in 1993 to 29% in 2022, and nearly two-thirds of adults are now overweight or living with obesity. Our population is also ageing. Pretending that a woman is waiting three years for a hip operation simply because “the hospitals are full of immigrants” is an extraordinary oversimplification of the problems facing the NHS.

And the housing shortage? Britain has made political decisions about housebuilding and social housing over decades. People arriving on boats didn't travel back in time and make those decisions for us.

By all means argue for controlled immigration, secure borders and the removal of people who have no legal right to remain. Those are perfectly legitimate positions. But blaming migrants for rape, NHS waiting lists and decades of inadequate housing policy isn't a serious analysis of any of those problems.

Per capita migrants men from 3rd world countries commit more sexual offenses. We see what happened in Cologne all those years ago

As for care, it used to be completely respectable and respected for school leavers to go into nursing. They didn’t go to uni, they trained on the job. Lots of it involved cleaning and personal care. It was a very middle class route. Lots of them didn’t do it for ever but they were paid enough for uni students to seem the poor relations.

Nowadays we all want our kids to go to uni. If you are middle class it costs you a lot of money. They all have psychology degrees and can tell you exactly what mum did wrong. Hardly any of them can get decent graduate jobs or afford a home of their own. Surely the old way was a better route?

Bombing "the crap out of these places" would lead to more refugees fleeing, as well as being in breach of international law.

She said stop bombing the crap out of said places.

The problem is it needs to be not just the British Air force but other air forces as well. However, as radical and crazy as it sounds, desperate times call for desperate measures so maybe a 10 year hiatus on anyone bombing the Middle East would help.

The problem is, very few people think desperate people paying criminal gangs to smuggle them across the channel is a good thing. But all of the sensible options to limit this are dismissed by a segment of the population who just want to see the Royal Navy drown people. Or who just want to see stricter conditions in detention centres (because 3 meals a day is ridiculous luxury apparently). Or who have weird fantasies about ElSalvador because they saw a documentary about the prison service. The punishment is the point.
But when you point out that drowning people isn't a viable option you open yourself up to being called a typical lefty who wants women to get raped because you hate this country. And also, accused of "demonising" the pro-drowning brigade

I have many problems with Starmer but he did seem to have significantly reduced the number of small boats arriving in the UK in the short time in office. Since this was done in a boring way that didn't involve the Royal Navy murdering people, it is an inconvenient fact that can be ignored. And I am sure the patriots on the thread will be crossing their fingers that the downward trend in boat crossings doesn't continue.

Why is it increasing with Burnham?

It’s amazing how often the conversation about “the boats” completely ignores Britain’s own history. Britain spent centuries travelling across the world, colonising countries, controlling their people and extracting their resources. We created political, economic and cultural connections with huge parts of the world that still exist today.

Then look at Windrush. People from the Caribbean came to the so-called mother country, many as British subjects, and helped rebuild post-war Britain. They worked in our NHS, transport system and industries, only to face horrendous racism and discrimination. Decades later, some were even wrongly treated as illegal immigrants, detained and removed from the very country they had every right to call home.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't control our borders or deal with dangerous Channel crossings. We absolutely should. But this idea that Britain has always existed as some isolated little island that the rest of the world suddenly decided to descend upon is historically ridiculous.

For centuries Britain went out into the world. Now people act completely bewildered that some of the world comes to Britain. And as for the suggestion elsewhere on this thread that these men are coming because they want British womene bodies talk about flattering yourselves.

How are all these young men going to take care of their sexual needs? I think that's about the biggest question going.

I think that's a very cynical thing to say about people fleeing persecution and looking for a better life from themselves. The assumption is that they will integrate and find themselves a partner from the local area, I know a lot of young British women will benefit from an expansion in the dating market. All I had to choose from when I was young was white British men!

Having worked in an inner city school, the white working class boys were the ones running around the building kicking doors, throwing tables and chairs at people, damaging equipment, swearing and being homophobic and racist. The non white British and non British born children were the ones behaving and working hard.

My daughter teaches in a deprived area. Her class has no British-born kids. She’s seeing daily the results of ingrained misogyny and cruelty and domestic abuse, even though most of her students can’t speak English. Their fathers apparently don’t like their kids learning the language particularly and she feels they don’t like them being taught by a woman.

How is this helping those kids? How is this enriching our nation?

Do you want a genuine answer to that? Because why I think, right now, is because he has only been PM for a few weeks and that isn't long enough to show a statistical trend. One boat is the difference between a sudden drop and a big rise. In addition, every summer sees a rise in crossings and every winter a drop because it's seasonal. So you need to look at it on a year on year basis.
But maybe there are other factors and he has opened the gates, who knows. I would say wait until the end of the year and see what the stats say then? Fingers crossed for the guys in team drown em all that they get the results they sincerely want.🤞

The only reason they want to come to Britain is because they think the streets are paved with gold. Women in the UK have been raped and sexually assaulted by these men and there’s plenty of videos on the internet of women showing that they’re being followed by them. School girls also feel unsafe walking around their local area. it’s not a case of ‘British women flattering themselves’ how fucking dare you

TheOutlier · Yesterday 10:56

They are coming because there is free housing and free money. It’s not about Empire.

igelkott2026 · Yesterday 10:56

We should stop them coming in the first place.

Some are being trafficked, which is a human tragedy.

And others are camped out in France and are perfectly safe and well in a developed country with plenty of job opportunities so can stay where they are, get the necessary experience, then apply to come here legally.

And a small minority are no doubt coming for nefarious reasons.

I've recently read a book by Zahra Joya who's an Afghan journalist who was given asylum in the UK along with some of her family after the Taliban came to power. Of course a lot of Afghan men came over too at the time because they'd worked for the British. And yet she writes that when she was first here and in a hotel they used to treat the women really badly and were shocked to find that the British police would do something about it. So even though they'd been granted residency here, they thought the women should live like they would have done under the Taliban. I don't want people like that here - at all, never mind in the "naice" areas.

Per capita migrants men from 3rd world countries commit more sexual offenses. We see what happened in Cologne all those years ago

But what exactly do you mean by “men from third world countries”, and where are the UK per capita rape statistics that prove your claim?

Cologne was horrific. Nobody is denying what happened to those women. But a mass sexual assault in Germany on New Year's Eve 2015 doesn't establish the rape rate of millions of people from developing countries, nor does it establish the rape rate of migrants or asylum seekers in Britain.

If you're making a per capita claim, you need actual data the number of offenders in the group, the size and demographic make up of that population, and a genuinely comparable rate for the rest of the population. Look at Cologne isn't a per capita statistic.

In fact, the ONS has explicitly said it doesn't hold crime statistics broken down by asylum seeker or migrant status. So where is your figure coming from?

And while we're discussing sexual violence, the latest ONS evidence shows victims of rape or assault by penetration were considerably more likely to report that the perpetrator was a partner or ex partner than a stranger.

Sexual violence is an enormous problem and women deserve better than having their experiences turned into ammunition for an immigration argument. If the evidence shows a particular group presents a greater risk, then show the evidence and let's discuss it. But nationality, immigration status and third world countries aren't interchangeable categories, and Cologne isn't a statistic for Britain.

You cannot deport them? To where? They have no
passports and yet we allow them in on their lies.

The huge boat the other day will show the gangs the way forward.

Burnham isn’t going to solve anything in this area but he seems very keen on solving paid subscriptions that are tricky to cancel.

I don't have a daughter, but if I did I would want her to be happy. I don't see a lot of women happy with British men these days so maybe she would fair considerably better looking elsewhere no?
