To think Count Binface is doing a great job in the Clacton by-election?

Count Binface has been out bigging-up Clacton and drawing attention to its potential.

It’s a really positive campaign.

I don’t think he’ll win but I’d love it if he did. I think he’d be brilliant.

And if he doesn’t, I think other candidates could learn a lot from his approach.

I understand.

Binface just made an idiot of himself

Why?

Jon Harvey / Count Binface is now a household name and known to an international audience.

He’s a comedian and satirist and will have many new opportunities as a result of what he’s done in Clacton.

I would have said most people who support Reform say that immigration is their key issue? Certainly first among many even if they have other views.

I don't think it's particularly likely that the current government is going to actively reverse migration, but if they did then I'd consider voting for them to continue, I guess. There's a hypothetical version of the Labour party that might do it to increase wages, perhaps? But I think the current version doesn't have the electoral incentives to do it.

I'm also concerned about other topics of course but I think they'll all be harder to address while migration is still out of control. For example, low-skilled workers aren't going to contribute to state coffers and help with an ageing population, they're just going to withdraw their own pensions.

Exactly that, it would be hard to think of better career enhancement.

I thought we were against people being "out for themselves" in politics ;)

He’s not in politics.

In what way? Last election he stood at he got 95 votes, this one over 9,000. That’s a pretty good increase! Before this election I didn’t know much about the person behind the bin, I do now and think he would be a good independent candidate in any election.

Then he shouldn’t be hiding behind a gimmicky bin if he wants to be taken seriously!

In your ideal scenario, what should Count Binface do?

Count Binface = fantasy character created by a satirist

Nigel Farage = career politician

Harvey had never dressed up as Count Binface or run in an election intending to win. He is more like a modern court jester.

Get back to his day job, if he has one!

No. The only one who made a mockery of our political system was Farage calling a wholly unnecessary and costly by-election.

So you don't think he should stand as a candidate in the next Clacton by-election?

Binface was the recipient of over 9,000 votes...... not FOR him.....but against Farage
Binface Just wants the publicity. Maybe good for his career as an entertainer but it's just his 15 minutes under the spotlight.

Bring a satirist is the day job. Harvey writes for many satirical programmes.

Our Democracy allows members of the public to stand. You don’t have to be a member of a political party.

And long may that be the case.

He wanted to prove that the electorate, regardless of the press and the condemnation of the other parties still wanted him as their representative and it was resounding success for him.

The low skilled workers that literally make up the majority of social care workers who spend their working days….looking after the ageing population you mean?
