Things you could afford but don't bother with/choose not to spend on.

Inspired by the cleaning thread.
What could you afford but don't have/do?

A cleaner, just do it ourselves.
A long haul holiday. No interest.

A fancier car.
A bigger house
A more expensive postcode.
More expensive food shopping.
professional beauty treatments and hair cuts (for me)
Extravagant celebrations for life events e.g weddings, balloon arches etc

We go on multiple holidays a year and save a fortune of all of the above.

It’s not about need, more about want. I enjoy a drink and a snack whilst watching the movie, I don’t need one, but I want one and enjoy it.

we go to an Everyman cinema with sofas, order a couple of glasses of wine, some nibbles. But certainly not as we need it. We then go out for dinner usually. Again we don’t need to, we can easily eat at home. But we wish to.

Arguably if we take thay line, no one needs to go to the cinema, we can all wait and see the movie when it’s on tv.

surely life is about more than just meeting our needs.

second car

I am, however, prepared to spend on long haul business class, holidays, wine and food.

AKA the important stuff! X

Preach.

Business class, decent single car, great food are non negotiable.

Second car, nails Botox eyelashes etc I would never want.

Fine dining restaurants.
I'd rather have a decent sized plateful of good home cooked food at my local golf club or garden centre than a minuscule portion of some fancy muck at a pretentious posh restaurant, for a fraction of the price.

Main shop Lidl then go to Waitrose for the nice stuff Lidl doesn't sell. Could afford to just go to Waitrose but was brought up dirt poor and I can't justify a whole Waitrose shop .
Gardener . I love gardening
Cleaner . I'd rather just do it and spend the money on other stuff
