Just cut my own hair-totally ruined it!

I have long hair and have trimmed it once before using the ponytail method and it was fine.
I did this again today and it looked nice, just a basic trim.
Then I looked at the front layers as they needed trimming.
I followed a tutorial but have completely wrecked my hair. It’s uneven at the front, just tufts of hair, cut far too short, they don’t look like layers, just an almost blunt cut of too short tufts at the front.
Sat here crying as it looks so ridiculous. Can’t go to the hairdresser as they can’t cut that part even shorter, plus i’m far too embarrassed too
How long will it take to grow?

It doesn’t look as full on from the front seeing both sides lined up, well, not lined up!

Is it possible to sweep it into a side parting towards the short side?

Yes exactly. I thought when OP said tufts her hair was about 2 inches long! If the "short" bits can go into a ponytail then they aren't short at all. OP I think you're rather making a mountain out of a molehill. Go to a hairdresser and they will blend it in. Why did you cut your own hair in the first place?

Half up half down will be your best friend for a while 😬

I did the same in March & was so annoyed with myself. I think the pony tail was too far forward when I chopped it - so I took too much off the front which then kept falling out instead of staying in a bobble. Pleased to say I got a proper hair cut last week, all the uneven chopped bits have gone & it’s grown enough to stay put when tied up.

The hairdresser was well used to sorting home haircut disasters & I won’t be doing it again x

Just go to a hairdresser - they are literally the experts and will be able to get the best result and suggest styles and products to keep it all smoothed in while it grows out.

Really doesn’t look bad at all - just go to a hairdresser who will sort it , or clip it back until it’s longer:

As previous people have mentioned- hairband or Alice band to scrape it away from your face.

I once attempted to cut my fringe at home and it was a total disaster. I wore hats and headbands until it grew out, it was so bad. Never again

@Toohotforallthisffs I've just seen the photo, a hairdresser can help blend it, it's still long enough to work with. Or you can tie it back in different ways. Don't worry!

OP, it's eminently fixable by a hairdresser. Stick a hat or scarf on it for now and get an appointment.

It's always 'makebetterable" if not entirely fixable. My Daughter went through a stage of cutting her own hair. She had some Shockers at one point she cut a bit at the back it stuck up like Alfalfa!. My hairdresser always managed to do damage control.

@Toohotforallthisffs just go to a hairdresser and say a kids toy car got stuck in your hair so you had to cut it out and tried to make it look even but failed so can they sort it out.

When drying i would use a round brush to make it sweepy until it gets longer, sort of retro 70s vibe

We have the same haircut - I did the pony tail method but then sort of did the same with the front of my hair and totally buggered it! I tried to shorten the back to make it blend in better but I’ve ended up with this strange mushroom shaped haircut. I just keep pulling it back in to a pony, and frantically check every morning hoping that it’s grown!

I know you say you're embarrassed, but a hairdresser will definitely be able to do something with your hair that will make it look better, even if it's only just to improve the shape while you grow it out. And I promise you they will have seen many other home haircuts and fixed many other mistakes.

Definitely fixable :) an Alice band and get to the hairdresser job will sort you out! 💛

@Toohotforallthisffs if you follow the first step on this tutorial you will even up the front and create soft layers round your face. I've just cut mine and it worked really well. Should blend everything in. Let us know!

Use a hairband to keep them back for a week or two until they have grown out long enough to go to hairdresser. An Alice band, or a thin elastic one like the footballers used to wear.
Or roll the front (like a French braid on each side but just sort of rolled into head) and Bobby clip in place.

Go for a very short blunt fringe a la Bjork and style it out .

They should have grown in 3 weeks, about 1 cm.? It sounds small but would make a difference and also they would be trained into whatever way you find to style it.
