AIBU to ask what views of TR people object to?

There is a lot of hate towards TR on many of these threads. Im interested to know what of his opinions etc that people are so outraged by? And please no ‘he’s a bigot’ ‘he’s a facist’ just pure and simple he says x and I think he’s wrong for y reason

He has rape cases running in the US, Romania and the UK- I think a conviction is very likely in the future. He also has human trafficking cases running in all three places- the point I'm making is why would the OP be interested in the opinion of someone like that- it doesn't make sense.

This thread was just created to get us to discuss someone that is rapidly, thankfully becoming completely irrelevant. So ignore it, don't bite. The OP's and other supporters on the thread are just posting in an opaque or nonsensical way to keep us arguing back.

It is a bit odd that there is suddenly a flurry of threads on MN trying to promote Robinson. I think you might be right.

I don't like that the EDL under his leadership habitually raised nazi salutes.
I don't like that he fratenised with holocaust deniers and had to be arrested from a campaign against anti semiticism rally that he invaded, despite organisers telling him to stay away.
I don't like the lies he told about a 16 year old refugee that led to the boy recieving death threats.
I don't like that he lied that an innocent Asisn man in a park was a pedophile.
I don't like his repeated harassment of non white victims of crime that have resulted in him being repeatedly held in contempt of court.

You think me saying that if I find a religion - ANY religion - to be ugly, dangerous, hateful and oppressive to women and girls that I will say so is akin to Nazism? The murder of 6 million jews?

I have no skin in the game here - but you have to see that for the critical thinkers amongst us that is quite the propagandist document. Its full of vagueness, value judgement and hyperbole. It really doesnt tell me anything. I genuinely want to know more - FACTS. actual facts. I agree with the OP. Its just a lot of people frothing.

If he is really that vile there should be more evidence of his hideousness. Things that can't be explained away. So for example on this.

1. He 'lied' about his name. Loads of people have different work names.
2. He was a member of BNP. Im not sure if that is true but I have heard him say he loathes BNP and created his party to move themselves entirely away from that as he disagrees with it.
3. Lot of word salad, basically only says he wanted to march in muslim areas and then didnt.
4. EDL supporters doing and saying sketchy things. Dont think he can be responsible for all his supporters do. He said muslim babies are 'time bombs' - awful thing to say. But the concern that muslims born here over time will hold hateful, dangerous views due to their religion is a valid one. He also said some fighting talk about standing up to Islam. Again - knobhead talk, but the sentiment I understand.
5. He has convinctions for violence and fraud. This is fact and its not good.
6. All about his supporters and blaming him for their actions. Dont think thats valid.
7. He has monetary support from right wingers. Not an issue - loads of campaigns I support do that
8. Same as 7.
9. Again some supporters did awful things. TR didnt condemn. From what I heard he thinks it was a stitch up some of it. He caused havoc outside a court. Knobhead move yes.
10. He earns lots of money for he does. Again, not a crime or an issue i dont think.

So from what I can gather, the most this man is guilty that is a proven fact is he has a sketchy criminal past (nothing abhorrent like rape or child sexual abuse), but fraud and violence from marches?? is that right?

Also he does a lot of fighting talk and says inappropriate stuff like babies being ticking time bombs.

I think he is foolish, and stirring up shit and should be more careful about the way he presents things because some of his supporters are clearly racist lunatics. I dont, however, think hes a facist, evil, racist man. I think he does genuinely care about what is happening to our country and partifular to women and girls. I think a lot of what he says I agree with the sentiment, just not the delivery.

I’d rather be protected from him than by him, if it had to be either.

Pretty much everything he says aimed at creating tension, anger and fear. He never suggests anything peaceful or tries to look at things deeper than simply "immigrants are the devil" level. He is militant, one dimensional and predictable.

You connected two things together there. I am concerned you are a social worker when you openly hate a subsection of society that you surely come into contact with through your job.

So criticising an ideology or a religion or a movement is saying a whole section of people who follow it are 'bad'??

There was a very interesting documentary, it’s quite old now, but it was Stacy Dooley about the divide between Muslims and others in the town she and Stephen Yaxley Lennon grew up in. It is somewhat insightful to why his views are completely skewed and have become extreme.

His oversimplification and commodification of complex issues. Robinson isn't the only one guilty of this as plenty on the left do exactly the same thing.

This exploits people who may have small concerns or worries and amplifies them offering blanket solutions to problems that are neither easy or simple to resolve.

His criminal convictions are very easy to find: Assault (2005 and 2011) Using threatening abusive or insulting behaviour (2011) Use of a false passport (2012) Fraud by misrepresentation (2014) contempt of court (2017 and 2018) Stalking (2021) contempt of court (2024).. and he’s currently on bail pending a trial for harassment slated for October this year.
In addition to these convictions in 2021 a court found him to have libelled a 15 year old who was left in fear for his life after attacks by people riled-up by Yaxley-Lennon’s on-line lies.
So going purely off his court record - He’s a dishonest thug with no respect for the laws of this country.

Just watched the Oxford Union full debate with TR. I agreed with everything he said. The muslim guy was a pretty aggressive guy. I didnt feel that side did well at all.

I have concluded that I agree with TRs views. His background to me doesnt actually matter to me. Most of the time in debates you don't know someones background you just listen to their arguments. His arguments are sound.

I think a lot of this is about the fact hes working class, rough as nuts (the ball scratching and yawning was pretty funny), but what hes saying is right. The posh boy at the beginning, because he sounds so articulate, seems more palatable I think.

Reckon this is a classist issue now. Pretty convinced of it.

Have you watched his Oxford Union speech? TR is a criminal thug and a rabble-rouser. But the case he made could have been made by any intelligent secular liberal, and it wasn't anything like being rebutted.

"Immigrants are the devil" is a stupid argument. What is not though is: "Islam is an unreformed religion that in its scripture, in the beliefs of most of its adherents, and in how it is practiced by many Muslim states is deeply illiberal, as evidenced by attitudes to and treatment of homosexuals, sex outside marriage, child marriage, treatment of prisoners of war, and ethnic (/religious) cleansing, and it is entirely reasonable to be 'suspicious' of it as such".

My personal view is it's not fair to be any more 'suspicious' of Islam than we would be of, say, medieval European Christianity (or many other non-religious belief systems at other times). And that it was perfectly rational to be very suspicious of those. If we thought that was bad then, we should think this is bad now.

None of that means believing that all, or even most, medieval Christians were 'the devil', nor does it deny the many very admirable traits and works of that religion (ditto Islam).

I also should add the aggression was all on the muslim side. They were throwing personal attacks and shouting and one even threatened physical violence. It was nuts! The TR side was so calm and measured.

Watch it. And these are supposedly the most articulate, persuasive muslim speakers out there. Really didn't persuade me at all. Quite eye opening.

Islam is a relatively new religion (compated to Christianity or Bhuddism for example) so it explains some of the issues with its followers. Also, the majority of counties following Islam are poor and, for better words, are culturally backwards. This is not an issue of Islam imprinting its dogma on people; this is an issue of how some people chose to follow it, and what external attitudes an interpretations they bring into it.

There are massive differences within the Islamic faith, same as there are within contemporary Christianity. Some existing Christian sects in, say, US are absolutely vile.

If you remember, at one point in history Islamic countries were leading in terms of science and culture - when Christisns burned women for being witches.

Basically, my point is - it's politics and culture, not religion per se.

What definition of working class are you using? I think he's held one job (an apprenticeship) that earned him a living through wages from hourly or salaried manual labour. That ended because he was convicted of a crime. Since then he's 'earned' his money as a rent-a-gob, from his followers and the very rich. If you think yawning and scratching your balls is indicative of being working class, I think that's pretty insulting, too. This isn't about class, because TR has absolutely none, by any definition.
