To ask what age you started cosmetic procedures?

If you have botox, fillers, have had surgical procedures, threads etc.
I'm 35 and have been having crows' feet Botox once or twice a year for a few years, and I've had nasolabial fold filler twice. This seems to be ok for now, I'm trying to hold off on anything else for as long as possible due to cost and not wanting too much maintenance and upkeep with it all.
Eventually I'm sure I'll start to need more though, I know I'm still young and I'm using spf 50 and retinol currently.

So just wondered what sort of age you noticed the biggest changes and started anti ageing treatments? Please no judgement, I know it isn't for everyone.

To people saying it isn’t noticeable - it is. You don’t look like a younger version of yourself; you look like someone who has had Botox. It can look good! But it is strange not to realise that people can tell you’ve had it.

It’s like the people who smoke just a ‘couple of cigarettes’ a day claiming no one can smell it on them. It’s a bit embarrassing really. The denial.

If someone smoked 2 cigarettes a day I don't think you'd be able to smell it. 5 plus, yes but 2?

For every frozen faced, ott lip filled person you see there will be many, many more who have tweaks and you can't tell. The over inflated lipped is very obvious yes and you can't help thinking what they'll do when 60 and older but each to their own.

CoffeeCantata · 03/08/2026 08:41

OP - you're free to do as you see fit.

I think the critical posts are because your OP sort of implies that the decision to have work done is universal for women - something every right-thinking woman should do. I know you didn't mean it that way, but I think that's why you're getting a hard time.

To many of us it's not a trivial matter. It's about the pressures on women to conform to a 'standard' and a sense that women have a kind of duty to be pretty and gorgeous and not 'let ourselves go'. I get that you say this is for your own sake and not because of the male gaze, but it IS a sensitive issue.

I'm very interested in looking good - I try to keep healthy, watch my weight, get my hair cut and wear clothes I love. I'm not someone who doesn't care about my appearance - I'm afraid I do, rather too much. But I would never have my face, lips, or other body parts changed to try to 'cheat' time. I don't see normal ageing as unattractive and it's depressing when people say they do. Why would you want to pretend you're much younger than you are? I don't get that. What's wrong with looking your age if you're healthy and happy?

Of course surgery and treatments have their place for people who've suffered injury, or disfigurement but just to hold back normal ageing??

I would definitely smell two cigarettes a day.
And the "tweaks" are obvious. Even if you can't put your finger on exactly what it is, people just start to look a bit unsettling. Our human brains have had millennia to learn what to expect to see in untweaked, human faces.

It’s clear that the high level of defensiveness and darvo comes from knowing many of the posters have a good point. Pointing out that normalising the Botox and filler look means that those women who can’t afford it will be ‘othered’ is not personal - it’s fact.

The same is being said of WLI. Women who carry extra weight, peri/post menopause are being othered, if they can't afford to take drugs to stop them eating. We've normalised and legalised drugs for weight loss.

Maybe you have hyperosmia, oversensitivity to smells? Think there's treatment and strategies to cope if you Google.

One of my friends was telling me about a tweak she'd had and I had no idea. The barely qualified 20yr olds whacking 5mls into cheeks and lips are not representative of experienced practitioners.

Ponoka7 · 03/08/2026 09:03

I was around 36. I started with crystal clear facials, went to microneedling, then radiotherapy. I had 11s, got botox a few times and they went for good. I got my lips done once, it was to replace volume I'd lost. I'm now 59 and can't get under eye filler. I only do skin care and home needling. You can give your skin help at 60, but it's lifestyle and genetics. Spend until post menopause, when you become more accepting and your view on everything changes. So you might decide to spend on experiences instead.
For those suggesting otherwise, men are doing tweaks, using skin care and popping off to Istanbul for hair transplants.

CoffeeCantata · 03/08/2026 09:06

I'm sure things have moved on now but I remember seeing Patsy Kensit when she'd had Botox and her face was like a rigid mask. She was in something on the telly but was almost incapable of acting because none of her features would move. It looked ridiculous and weird.

That really wasn't attractive. A few little wrinkles couldn't make PK unattractive.

ZenNudist · 03/08/2026 09:07

I'm 47 and never had the treatments you describe.

I think its a shame young women are encouraged to fuck up their faces like this. It doesn't look right, especially fillers. The Hollywood women who used to be beautiful and now look odd are the best example of this .

I saw some young woman at the airport with big lips microbladed eyebrows and face just weird sort of puffy in the wrong places. I felt sad for her because you could tell if she'd left well alone she'd have looked great.

I get annoyed its not men who are targeted for this shit.

CoffeeCantata · 03/08/2026 09:08

It doesn't cheer me up any to hear that men are falling under the dubious influence of crap like Love Island etc as well as women.

God help us!

Attenboroughsmistress · 03/08/2026 09:10

Started Botox when I was around 23! Had severe forehead lines forming. Don’t have fillers but do occasional skin boosters like sunekos. Apart from once or twice getting a bad practitioner/bad result and looking a bit like Spock (the same as sometimes you do get a bad haircut) I mostly look natural and face shape etc is all the same as it ever was, just less wrinkly than it would have been (late 30s now).

Wonkybaby · 03/08/2026 09:46

About 34/35 was when I did Botox for the first time. I’m 51 now, have had fillers a couple of times. I’d do more but can’t afford it 😭. I do look a lot younger than my age according to most people (last comment, unsolicited!! Was that I look 44 which is oddly specific)

Yes the female market is saturated so they are now trying to make men feel insecure too and in the days of social media that becomes possible

Men are targeted for looking 'tired', as men should look energised and vital at all times, otherwise some younger guy will get their job and they'll stop getting female attention. Their power will be taken away, in other words.

It's sort of funny, and alarming, seeing similar tactics being used on men. Society is supposed to be moving past this crap, but we've got worse.

I don't think you can state that menopause causes everyone to change their minds about things. 🤷‍♀️Yes age brings wisdom and the can't be arsed attitude but that's usually to do with people 😂.

I've never met a man who feels insecure about their looks, quite the opposite many think they're gorgeous despite such things as having bad teeth and being overweight. Skincare is a good thing though and if I was bald I'd want a hair transplant too.

Don't think men get ott fillers do they? I've never seen balloon faces on men.

This is a list of all famous men who work in a youth and looks obsessed sector which kinda backs the theory that Botox and fillers are for people who feel pressured to look a certain way to retain their value within work/industry. Sad.

What blows my mind are the comments ‘it’s not noticeable’ or ‘you’d never know’ In that case - shouldn’t you be asking for a refund?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/08/2026 12:31

Never and I never will.

I’d much rather spend my money on travel and experiences.

Well as I said earlier my friend had a tweak and I couldn't tell. She looked glowing and well like she'd had a facial and a holiday.

Most do not go ott.

I’m not sure what you’re referring to actually. Maybe a facelift you can always tell. Botox and filler and skin boosters you really can’t

Interesting discussion about status

I read an article about this where the tide is turning and untouched older faces are the ones that infer status and control
" so rich/ happy/ confident I dont need to bother"
Similar to the 90s boob jobs, its being seen as mainstream and therefore less desirable and so reversal/ dissolving gaining popularity -of course this costs £££
You couldnt make it up!
