To ask what age you started cosmetic procedures?

If you have botox, fillers, have had surgical procedures, threads etc.
I'm 35 and have been having crows' feet Botox once or twice a year for a few years, and I've had nasolabial fold filler twice. This seems to be ok for now, I'm trying to hold off on anything else for as long as possible due to cost and not wanting too much maintenance and upkeep with it all.
Eventually I'm sure I'll start to need more though, I know I'm still young and I'm using spf 50 and retinol currently.

So just wondered what sort of age you noticed the biggest changes and started anti ageing treatments? Please no judgement, I know it isn't for everyone.

I am 60 and have had nothing done. When I was 18 and having a medical when I applied for nursing I told them I was allergic to make up. The Dr said people shouldn’t add stuff to their skin it’s a living breathing organ and it’s bad for it. It’s good you can’t muck about with your face. I men he is very probably dead by now unless he is 100 but I really have not interfered with my face much at all. I now use Clinique as I’m fine with it but make up is rarely on my face.

I am lucky though as I’m mixed race and Asian don’t raisin. Honestly it’s genetics, sun, sleep and what you eat mainly. Notice how the vast majority of Asian women wear hats in the sun, do that.

pepayfelix · 01/08/2026 08:48

I’m ignoring all the judgemental bollocks. Presumably the people doling out faux concern or outright criticism have never had a haircut, manicure or wax either.

Started baby Botox in my late thirties and carried on ever since. I am considering polynucleotides at some point but for now am happy with my Botox. I still have near full movement in my forehead but my 11s are gone so I still look my old self, hurray.

I don't like people who judge me on what I look like so the people in my life are genuine people so I feel no need to alter my appearance as wrinkles are just part of aging.

Its sad you don't have the confidence to just love yourself as you are.

Wow, you just made your frown lines even worse just to knock someone down on the Internet? Get a life. 😆

harriethoyle · 01/08/2026 08:49

To answer your actual question, as opposed to preaching at you, 32 for Botox for my 11s between my eyebrows and then crows feet and forehead from 47. Marionette line filler at the same appointment. I’m delighted with my results and will continue to have tweakments for a while yet!

Girlwithavibe · 01/08/2026 08:50

No procedures here just turned 50 !
I'm not bothered by ageing thou so its a bit different for me I do have good genes so look good for 50 and my kids say that's why I'm not bothered because I don't look my age 😉
But actually I honestly not bothered by it I have grown to love myself at this age and I feel privileged to have got to this age !
My daughter looks like me and I don't want her thinking I'm changing my face because she would ultimately start thinking there was something wrong with her face if that makes sense !
I can understand why some do these things but I'm not one to judge u do u I do me !!! 😘

I'm 46 and I haven't had any done. And I reckon I look my age but several people have expressed surprise recently on finding out I have a 15 year old and said I don't look old enough

I can understand the imperatives that make people feel they need procedures. But millennia of evolution have trained us to understand a human face that can make all the normal facial expressions. Aging is a privilege and it's beautiful

Yeah, people say all kinds of shit

friedaklein · 01/08/2026 08:52
  1. Never done anything, never will. I hope this answer is allowed. Just want to show that not everybody is having these procedures.

You do you, don't know why people feel the need to comment on these threads, OP didn't ask your opinion she asked what age people started!
Plus you can't always tell if it's done well.
I started in my late 30's OP, micro-needling etc, I now have a bit of botox for my frown, skin boosters and microneedling.
I don't wear makeup and my skin looks and feels good, which is what I want, I will never be 20 but I can be the best very late 50's.

The OP asked is she was being unreasonable so some of us are going to answer yes, she is.

backformoreofthesame · 01/08/2026 08:56

you don’t NEED anything cosmetic

you NEED to work on your self esteem. Recognising the things in yourself that age has given you and being glad you have the opportunity to grow older

the experiences you wouldn’t have had if you had died last year
the laughter and tears that show up on your face
the way you have learnt and grown

society used to value the wisdom of the elderly. Menopause is natures proof of this - that women have value even as they get older so it’s worth giving them the helping hand that is menopause.

don’t buy the male gaze shit that women should look young and fertile. Value yourself and your experience

W0tnow · 01/08/2026 09:01

The only thing I would say is to have as little done, as late as possible. Women (and increasingly, men) who’ve had loads of injectables eventually get that slightly bumpy, paper-thin skin look, which just looks strange.

I’ve not had anything done, either. People express surprise at my age too. And the ages of my children. And I LIKE it. Like the great majority of women, I like it when people say I look young, or great, or in shape, or whatever. I like it. I recognise that this reaction is because of a lifetime of social conditioning. And I recognise that the people giving the comments have been socially conditioned. I acknowledge it for what it is. But it’s there.

And I’ll put my hand up and say that were I still in the workforce, I’d not have my natural (very) grey hair, and I may well have had some tweaks. Because few people like ageing women, especially in the corporate world. And I wouldn’t be prepared to take one for the team just to make a point.

Lilypad34 · 01/08/2026 09:01

I started having Botox at 35 for my 11’s because I squint apparently, I was getting concerned about my sagging jawline etc but didn’t want to have fillers so I tried doing the DAO and Masseter muscle massage at night thinking it was probably a load of crap but 3 weeks in and oddly my jawline is better and my nasolabial folds are looking much better. I also use a ziip halo so hopefully I won’t want anything else done to my face. I’m almost 50.

Elsvieta · 01/08/2026 08:16

I've only had Botox. 42. Had big vertical line between the eyes and always looked scowly. People always asking me what was wrong when nothing was and now they never do.

But it started because I had jaw pain from tooth grinding and someone said Botox could fix that. The practitioner I found did medical and cosmetic Botox so ended up getting both. Although the jaw one ended up improving my appearance too as the big jaw muscles went right down.

People asked why you were scowling? This makes me so cross. They wouldn't ask a man!
Why do we, girls and women, always have to be smiley? That's not a criticism of you getting cosmetic procedures, but societal expectations of girls and women.

You don't look old enough to have a 15 year old? Really?

friedaklein · 01/08/2026 09:14

I have resting bitch face and people- mostly men- have often asked me why I was angry. I told them it was none of their business.
I am not in this world to be smiley.

Yeah, people say all kinds of shit

People do indeed say all kinds of shit, what doesn’t lie is their reaction on being told your age. We can all read facial expressions. The fact is that some people look younger than their chronological age and some look older.

I’m incredibly vain and, despite being tempted at times to have things done to my face, at the end of the day I like it too much to take risks with it. I’ve also been extremely lucky in the genetic lottery with no jowls and virtually no wrinkles in the top half of my face.

I’ve found ageing has happened in bursts. I’ve looked pretty much the same for around a decade, then noticed that I suddenly look older. Nothing’s happened that would make me risk tampering though.

People make an assessment of age not only on your face, but on the way you dress, the way you do your hair, how you generally present yourself.

Poppinpoppinpopcorn · 01/08/2026 08:23

Never,I'm mid 50s. Botox etc doesn't make you look younger, it makes your face look fake. Just grow old gracefully, people especially when they get to 60 plus you can tell who's had this done and it does not look pretty.

Disagree. I’ve yet to identify anyone as definitely having had Botox but some have told me after a comment that they look amazing.

I did it when I was 43. And it was unreal how much it improved my look. People kept commenting that I was looking so fit and fresh thinking it was just general better health but honestly it was Botox😂

Come on now, what about all the 'slebs who's faces don't move anymore or look weird and smooth and shiny? Can you not see they've obviously had botox (and probably a lot of other unnecessary stuff done).

Seeingadistance · 01/08/2026 09:22

People who've had all these "treatments" don't look younger - they just look weird.

CoffeeCantata · 01/08/2026 09:22

I would never!

Just keep your weight healthy, eat well, drink water, take exercise and stay toned. Get lots of sleep, stay out of the sun, get a good haircut and dress for style not fashion. Oh - and keep your mind stimulated by being creative or learning new things.

Those are honestly the key things for ageing well.

Sadly true.

So many celebs who just can't smile or raise their eyebrows!

MsSquiz · 01/08/2026 09:25

I’ve just turned 40
Started getting Botox at 38 and get it every 3 months
I had my breasts lifted and enlarged by 1 cup size 5 months ago
considering getting 0.5ml of filler in my lips as the amount I spend on plumping lipglosses is obscene!

I knew somebody would make this tired joke about women who don't have anything done.

I don't think I look particularly young or great. I think I look ok though, like a 54- year-old is supposed to look.
