Aibu to have reported the dustbin lorry to the council?

Bit of back story us and our next door neighbours quietly dislike each other. Nobody has really said anything but I know we both annoy each other from what is said about the street. They moan about us, things we do etc.

Recently they have been playing loud music in the garden at the weekends in a passive aggressive way. This started when they complained about our chickens being noisy ( we have rehomed the chickens because of this but thats another story) the reason I'm saying all of this is because in general I am just in a bad mood about our neighbours and don't know if this has tainted my reaction.

So next door neighbour is a bin man, he wasn't at work.
Bin lorry come and parks up across my drive . Workmen get out and go in neighbours house/garden for 40 minutes having a drink and break. All this time I was unable to get off or access my drive. There was a bin lorry parked unattended across it.

So husband rings to complain to the council. They were confused as on their tracker the lorry was supposedly elsewhere. They also agreed 40minutes was excessive but said they must have been emptying bins? No they were having a cuppa at my neighbours! Council are going to investigate, I suspect they were taking unauthorised breaks and turning the tracker off.. maybe.

Anyway the reason this has also annoyed me so much is our neighbours have lived hear 30+ years and act like they own the street. Complain about anything we do (leaves from our trees fall in their garden for example.) They are 60+ and set in their ways and we are a young family. Tbh I just dont think they like us, we normally don't rise to it and smile and wave etc. But this time I had had enough and complained.

Aibu? And have we just started ww3?

Good, and everyones opinions counting is exactly what I said several times now and its OK to disagree. The OP wanted everyones opinions and she has a wide spread.

Honestly, I just don't get how you expected me to respond to the statement quoting me where you simply advised me that you had read everything and didn't agree with me? Did you think I would say, Oh Pinhchickenwine has read everything and doesn't agree with me, I must be wrong?

Its fine to disagree, but I haven't asked for your thoughts, the OP has. I said yippy dohda and you said Okie Dokie! Not getting at you, I genuinley don't know what you were looking for.

Another lecture!

You’ve made your point!

I don’t agree with it though, HTH!

My opinion!

Easterchicken · 03/08/2026 19:42

Did they block you in or are you just having a sulk??

Also without evidence they abandoned their bin lorry and went to hang out with someone who's clearly not on their rota ...I find this story unlikely

Surely you took passive aggressive photos with time stamps as you were "trapped" in your house

Bumpyroads · 01/08/2026 03:06

It just keeps getting worse!! I've also now found out the reason it happened before around to weeks ago.
They pop past to empty the daughters garden waste bin so she doesn't have to pay the yearly subscription (not our bin day the dad is obviously on another garden waste round).
They then go for a cuppa at their mates the other side of me.

Im not going to further report the garden waste bin but wtf!

Oh come on....how on earth do you even know that

I call bs on this entire moaning post

I imagine a friend's Honda civic was slightly over your drive and you posted it on FB and we're laughted at so made up this farcical situation that appears to escalate and affect everyone on your street of bin men bar you

GingerDoris · 03/08/2026 21:46

Not worth the aggro in the longtime. Now you'll have annoyed your neighbours more and pissed off the bin men. Especially as there won't be much doubt over who called to complain.

I wouldn't begrudge them a brew in this weather either, especially if I didn't need to be anywhere. As long as they get their jobs done in the end then I wouldn't grass on a longer break.

Sounds like the drama will now just escalate.

I'm not lecturing, I am answering like for like. You can make a comment and thats fine, I make a comment and its not. That not how this site works.

Bumpyroads · 31/07/2026 06:53

Well my bin has been emptied this morning, not sure all bin men would be willing to risk their jobs for a mate.

On the other hand next door had their radio blasting yesterday evening so yes I believe things have escalated

However if they are going to act like toddlers I will of course eventually snap back like I did
And whilst we're acting like toddlers "they started it"

Ah, 60+ and set in their ways. And no doubt a little bit deaf. Bless us 60+ year olds.

I never said you couldn’t have your opinion, I simply said I agreed with the previous PPs.

If I said you couldn’t have an opinion, please show me where I said that.

You said you’d read it and thought the OP was right, I said I’d read the thread and that I thought the OP was wrong. Partly due to a lot of changing of story.

I did not say you could not have an opinion and I have no clue why you keep saying this. It’s all there to be reread to confirm.

Enjoy the sunshine today.

Ok so an update.
After being woken up the other night at 1 am by the neighbour knocking on their window loudly -right next door to our window - my husband confronted them today.

He started off by saying "was that you knocking the other night, it woke us up,was there a problem." Guving then the benefit of the doubt.
She then went on to admit the husband was drunk and decided to do it just to wake us up! For the fun of it!

I knew they were doing all these things intentionally to piss us off and no i know i wasn't imagining it. The music, the parking, the lights, the knocking etc etc

She then said they do it because they just dont like the way we are.

So unfortunately I think the dustbin lorry parking incident was another of their tactics to get to us. I dont know what they are trying to achieve. Maybe they are hoping we will get fed up and move.

Sounds as if you may need mediation if this kind of behaviour continues.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 06/08/2026 20:16

Oh dear. What idiots they are.

Rosesandthorns66 · 06/08/2026 20:19

I am so sorry this is happening to you.
A home is a place where a person should be able to enjoy themselves. It's a place of comfort after a long days work.
Unfortunately, your neighbours are some saddist and selfish people, who have nothing better to do but decide to be annoying and make other peoples lives miserable.

I would be on edge if I had such neighbours.
I get anxious easily so I would be miserable living next door to such people.
Hopefully, you will stay strong and sending you lots of best wishes.

Yellowshirt · 06/08/2026 20:30

You won't be able to turn the tracker off in a truck. It's wired into the fuse box.

They sound absolutely unhinged. Are you keeping a log of this?

Yes we have started a harassment report with the police now and are keeping a diary. Especially just incase the incidents get worse.

This thread reminds me of that programme years ago called Neighbours from Hell, think it was channel 5. They’re hideous people and I’d be contacting the police to log an harassment report.

Bumpyroads · Yesterday 21:54

They said we need to respect them.
They honestly act like they own the street, lost any respect from us thats for sure.
I used to watch that programme and it is a bit like that.
We are just trying to ignore it and act like it doesn't bother us now.
They were blasting music early evening so we couldn't really go outside so just shut the patio doors and watched a film.
Bit sad that the house we bought we feel like we are being controlled how we can enjoy it.
