AIBU to stay indoors during heatwave

To stay inside all day during 33° heat. I’ve done pretty much nothing all day, read a bit, made ice coffee and booked myself a hairdresser appointment. Too hot to go out or do any housework! Basically the heat is licence to laze.

Get up and out early before the heat

Then a nice stroll after supper

Do people here not have jobs?!

I do, but I’m a teacher so off for summer.

Come to Cornwall! We’re here and it’s warm but not overly sunny or hot. Much to my disgust 😂 rather disappointingly it’s very warm back at home where we actually live in the SE.
Dh struggles in the heat so I leave him at home sitting like a 90 year old in front of the fans with the blinds all shut and go out and live my life!

A bit judgy! Your poor DH is like me and clearly struggles in the heat. Not our fault our bodies don't appear to be able to cool down anymore :(

I used to work in a dermatology clinic. Believe me when I say you want to stay indoors if at all possible.

It was still 30 degrees here at 8pm. Bonkers.

On holiday in Arizona at the moment, 47c yesterday & still 42c at 9pm 😎
obviously lazing by the pool & all places with air con but we did play golf the other day ⛳️

Op I've done the same ! Out early to shops and do some jobs ,washing in early so it can dry then relax and stay cool.

BitOutOfPractice · 29/07/2026 22:52

How nice to have that luxury op. I’ve been to work, and the gym. Neither were optional.

Same here - I feel guilty not “enjoying it” but it’s too bloody hot.

I’m the same it’s horrible!
I’ve ordered some autumn decorations 😂

I avoid going out when it's that hot , I plan my week round it, I put the Aircon units on and just potter round the house, nothing too strenuous.I even have to psych my self up to brave the heat and peg the washing out!🤣 Can't wait for Autumn

hattie43 · 29/07/2026 22:56

Same here . I’ve watched movies , read and built Lego , indoors with the AC on .

Hollyhobbi · 29/07/2026 23:00

Alternativelyviewed · 29/07/2026 22:53

Why !

Skin cancer obviously!

Alternativelyviewed · 29/07/2026 23:00

This winter getting air con units will be a priorty and being better prepared

Haikuing · 29/07/2026 23:00

Why !

Skin cancer. People don’t take it seriously enough in my opinion but sun exposure is so dangerous.

And if you must go out, please remember that the backs of your ears, your feet and even your scalp need protection too.

Yes, when all the panic has slowed down we will be looking at getting quotes for AC in the kitchen/family room, living room and at least two bedrooms.
Have talked about it before but will definitely be doing it this year.

Howyoudoings · 29/07/2026 23:56

I just tend to do things easier, took the kids to play tennis at 10:00 before it got too hot .

Aintgointogoa · 30/07/2026 00:19

I live in the tropics and it is not as hot here as it is/was in London today...tho it hasn't been too hot to move around I actually took a home day, with no particular reason to go out, since the apartment is so cool and I felt under the weather. Pottering. I never go out in the heat of the day if it can be avoided. My son rang this morning when I was still flopping about in bed (UK 6 hours ahead) and said ha, you left before the weather improved and I said you call THAT an improvement !? London is unbearable in the heat - and I worked in an office that actually had aircon back in the day. A perfect summer's day of 27C with a picnic in the park and I might even need a scarf by the time we slope off to the pub....sigh Happy days ! Now it's shelter in place 🥵

garlictwist · 30/07/2026 00:49

I tried to sit outside this afternoon and read but got too cold so came in. I wish it was hot where I am.

DrumsPleaseFab · 30/07/2026 00:59

I walked the dog, went for a run, cleaned the house, did a min 4hr work shift, cooked dinner and I feel lazy and like I do not make the most of it

(of what exactly?! The heat makes running a lot less fun)

spent a fair bit of time in front of a fan too

DrumsPleaseFab · 30/07/2026 01:00

Now cannot sleep as hot legs (meno) and a full moon

ffs

enough with that heat now
