AIBU to ask neighbours not to walk across my driveway?

Am I being unreasonable to ask neighbours to stop using my drive as a path?

I have a driveway in front of my property and the neighbour on my left has a driveway connected and in front of their property. The neighbour on my right has a drive way to the right of their property on the side. Everyday the right neighbours walk across my garden and up and down my driveway way rather than using their own path out of their house. To walk their dogs or head out on foot. It sets my doorbell off constantly. They walk down it regardless of if we are parked on the drive or not and walk very close to our cars which makes me worried they’ll get scratched. Our driveway is private property and not a shared communal space.

Would it be ridiculous for me to politely ask them not to as it’s setting the cameras off?

Might seem like a tiny thing but the constant notifications on the camera are annoying and despite them often being inconsiderate neighbours noise wise I have never said anything.

Please let me know your thoughts and whether if you were in my shoes this was something you’d do.

I would 100% support not having cheeky neighbours walk across your drive. I would not discuss it with them because they will then know it's am issue. I would investigate planters or a fence and then go ahead when you find something that works for you. You don't have to discuss it with your neighbours to put a fence or other features on your land. One day the fence will just be there and their shortcut will be cut off. If they comment you just respond that you decided on the fence for kerb appeal reasons and defines the garden..

I would 100% refuse to have my neighbours scaffolding on my land. Speak to anyone who has allowed it and the resulting damage and loss of privacy.

My views on neighbours are simple. A good one is a dead one.

As they’re presumably in Britain, yes, it is “so very British” and that’s fine. Property lines are there for a reason and it is the right thing to do to respect them.

OP, your neighbours sound entitled and rude so there’s probably not much point in engaging with them. Planters and low fencing, as others have suggested, seems to be a good way of keeping the boundary.

Mine reverse their car on my driveway! I hate it. I agree it’s just basic manners which a lot of people don’t seem to have.

This is absolutely pathetic and if I was you I would be embarrassed about that behaviour.

Honestly this is such a non issue.

The only thing that would bother me is the doorbell cam, and I would personally just say to the neighbours 'Hey neighbour, I dont want to sound silly but can you please not cut across my driveway because it keeps setting my doorbell off and the noise is driving me nuts haha'

People are so rude OP. I'd ask them. Maybe they are just dim witted and not ware of their poor behaviour.

Tweak the sensitivity of the doorbell cam, and put out planters. You need to look at the big picture. If having hostile neighbours is worth the hassle for you, go and have a shouting match with them. But for the sake of a tweak of settings in an app, is it worth it?

I didn’t say I would have a shouting match I said is it worth politely asking them not to. I’m not going to adjust my camera as to stop them setting it off I’d have to turn it off completely. Because they come right up to it. That’s how much they are on my property and I would like my property to be cover d with my camera. Like I’ve said multiple times I will be getting planters. If it continues I will then speak to them politely

I’d absolutely mention it, the ring doorbell is a good reason enough but also your property being walked over and lack of privacy. Personally I would sandwich the request between polite and light hearted chit chat to soften it up and come across as nice and reasonable.

In that case yes, assuming they are coming within two to four meters of your door (half to full car length-ish) then, yes, if the planters fail, it would be time for a cautious and polite conversation.

I'm just looking out for you and your long term happiness at the property - not having a dig at you.
