it might not be your taste - but Radio 2 isn’t tanking. It has over 12 million listeners and is the biggest single radio station in the UK

OP, loads of people have their moment when they realise that they need to move on from Radio 1 or rather Radio 1 has moved on from them. For me it was Nick Grimshaw taking over from Chris Moyles. I was then radio homeless for ages as I hated Radio 2. Flirted with Absolute and Radio X but ended up with Laura Woods on Talksport for a year or so. Then that went downhill too.

I’ve given up with radio now. It’s podcasts and audiobooks that get me through my commute now. Spotify gives me a music fix.

He was actually very in favour of equal opportunities. He was an arsehole to pretty much everyone.

But greatest hits is slicing into that.

Remember when radio 1 played pop music and had DJs who went and listened to bands and knew about music and artist. It had shows that broke new music. Where they actually acknowledged that music doesn't just disappear and can never be listened to outside of the charts.

Radio 2 had older DJs who were more all round presenters and built up a relationship with the listener. Where the current events show was about current events and not the ego of the presenter. Where specialist music genre were appreciated and not shifted around to fit in with the current big star

And once upon a time the BBC developed a new idea in radio. A station that would have some music, some phone ins, some drama, some comedy and was the fastest growing station in the UK and then they changed it to news and sport.

Sadly those in charge of BBC radio I don't think actually listen to it or have any idea of what the public wants

Awww. I like Rickie, Melvin and Charlie. And Dean McCullough. Greg James is great. Really don't like anyone else. Mollie and whatsit are a bit radio 2.

But I hate adverts, radio 2 is dire, can't really get into 6 music so radio 1 it is. And radio 4 (but they don't play much music apart from I'm sorry I haven't a clue).

Radio 6 music is the way to go.

Mark and Lard's 10.00 p.m. show was my most favourite ever radio show.

R1 died when Mista Jam left. Mark and Lard was my favourite in the 90s. I can't really stand listening to radio now but Fern Cotton does a good 90s throwback show on R2 on a Saturday that I sometimes listen to on BBC sounds.

What music does radio 6 play? The music is ok on radio 2 but the djs are awful and Ellie The travel presenter talks absolute rubbish as well.
"Here's Ellie " now means mute radio 2 immediately.

It plays primarily rock, indie type stuff.

I love Jerry and won't hear a word against him. Not happy that he's been split from Katie though. And I will be forever annoyed that Jamie is still allowed on there, I really hoped he'd be long gone by now as he's not a good presenter.
Sad that Melvin is going. He seems to have a R2 future now though.

Also Radio 1 dance in the afternoon for the music (all their presenters are awful too, Amy can take them to the job centre. I want Annie Mac on there all afternoon please).

Mark and Lard are (were) on radio 6 (separately though I think one was unwell and maybe isn’t on any more, but one of them definitely is). And Lauren Laverne. And sometimes Steve Lamacq. It’s like the good old days over there with a good mix of all types of (reasonably good) music.

The hating a new radio 1 line up is a rite of passage! Please proceed to radio 2.

I do really hope melvin has a r2 future. He deserves it after suffering with Charlie disrespecting him at every turn

I can't listen to dance music all afternoon. I've tried listening when someone on radio 2 used to play it for the last 45 minutes from 3.15 to 4pm on a Friday and in the end it drives me crazy.

I listen to radio 1 at 42, I think radio 2 plays the same stuff it did when I was in my teens, it hasn't moved on and I like a lot of current stuff most of the time. But I cannot stand that Jerry guy he must be the dumbest person in receipt of a bbc paycheck.
