People who put their car make on their number plate!

Has anyone noticed this and what are your thoughts?
People (mainly guys) who have personalised number plates but with their car type on them. For example, on my street alone there is a guy with a BMW who has a plate with “BMW” as last three letters and another with a jaguar who has “JAG”. Also used to be a boy racer nearby who had VXR when it was all the rage for them to have a fast/ fancy Vauxhall!
AIBU to find it odd? Are you just going to buy that car type forever? You don’t see anyone with DAC for Dacia or REN for Renault!

I have one. It looks like a regular plate, and unless you knew your cars, you would have no idea that the year it ascribes to my car is way too early for the model itself

I’d guess that most people know, they just don’t care.

I suppose they might buy that type forever, though? A lot of people like to stick with the same thing, if it ticks all their boxes, and if they can afford it. I've never fancied having a private plate, but to each his/her own.

I have one. It’s references my wedding anniversary date/month and just looks like a regular number plate.
My DH has one that mimics the registration number on his first car. No reference to the make.

The same could be said for those who spend vast amounts on make up, clothes etc. At least a number plate is a one off cost.

A mate of mine had a private regy on his car years ago. It was his first initial of P, then his year of birth followed by his three other initials. Honestly, it only made his car look like it was from 1996, ffs...😆

That’s a pretty common theme with prefix plates though, a combination of year/date of birth and initials.

The way it read, though, made it look like an absolutely ordinary 1996 plate. I suppose it meant something to him, though... The car was written off, and he didn't keep the plate.

One of the top bods at Taylor’s of Harrogate (Yorkshire Tea) drives a car with a personalised number plate. Starts T, then some numbers and the last three letters are BAG 🙄😆

Not true, I know a few Lords with them. Also a couple of generational land owners.
Big suprise is an unassuming school mum, doesn't look the type to have one, so could have been a present.

I live in an area that is generally considered to be posh or gentrified and I’ve seen so many people with short-form versions of the town name on their number plate! I just can’t understand it and can only think it’s some kind of weird, ill-thought-out bragging?!

My car came with one that spells the make of the car 🙈 I hate it. Thought about getting my own private plate and putting that on instead but decided against it. It’ll just go with the car when I sell it

Loath personalised plates - crass

I like my personalised plate and DH has a similar one to mine. Will happily buy both DDs personalised plates when they’re older if they want them. Ours are just the standard XX00 XXX format so the only giveaway is that our cars are clearly not as old as the plate says. Couldn’t really care if people think it’s crass or a waste of money, they make us happy. I just like having my 3 letter nickname on my reg. cost £250 10 years ago and costs £80ish to change it onto a new car which I’ve only done once so far.

Such an extreme feeling for something that doesn’t affect you or cause harm to anyone.

I know a man who was given his grandfather’s car years ago when the old man gave up driving. He has transferred the reg number to all his subsequent cars as a way of remembering someone dear to him.

Is that crass?

I got one that just said my first name. Then I sold my car and downgraded to a family wagon and now my private plate lives in the boot as more of a memory of when I was a little bit wanky 🤣

No - that's perfectly fine - I think we all know the sort of plate in question - which are cringey.

Im feeling grumpy and judgy today - ignore me.

Also feel the same way about hot tubs, lip fillers ( not botox tho) and people posting showing off about gifts they've received or their holidays when close friends family are going through hard times.
