Queuing to board?

holachicatita · Today 11:19

So.. currently waiting to board my flight and me and my husband have had a disagreement. Seats are already allocated but I still like to queue and get on the flight once the gates open. He likes to sit and wait until the last minute, looking down his nose at all the silly little people queuing. AIBU to start to queue once the gates open?

I can't understand why people want to spend MORE time in a tin box.

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · Today 11:21

It depends on if you have a small case to go overhead. If you board last there’s often no room.

hourspassed · Today 11:21

I'm a sit and waiter too. What is the point of queueing? Unless you have heaps of baggage that needs to go in an overhead locker and you might struggle for space if you go on late - but we never do.

Optimist1 · Today 11:21

Those who board earlier have first dibs at the overhead lockers, so YANBU. I can't bear to have to stash my bag four rows back from my seat!

WhyNotUsehis · Today 11:22

TBH I'm with your husband
But why don't you both just agree, that you do you and he does him

araiwa · Today 11:22

Husband is correct

You are wrong

But if I was dh I'd let you go queue if you wanted

Moonnstarz · Today 11:23

Depends on where your seat is. We took the kids for the first time this year and booked the window and middle seat, so if we waited til near the end then it would have annoyed the people sat in the aisle seat having to move.

It's a bit like theatre shows, it always seems to be the people who are sat in the middle are the ones to enter last after the warning bell, minutes before the show starts, making everyone stand up to let them through.

MidnightPatrol · Today 11:23

Do you queue before boarding begins?

beigetriangle · Today 11:23

depends
if I have a large piece of hand luggage I want to board as early as possible so the i can store it right above my row.
if I only have my backpack I will not queue

Arlanymor · Today 11:24

Why are you queuing when they call you in order of seat numbers/rows? It's annoying for gate staff to have people chomping at the bit, when they have a system. Just wait your turn!

BirdLandedonmyHead · Today 11:24

Depends on your hand luggage. Underseat bag... wait
Maximum size cabin case... board early to get space in the locker near your seat

Although i did have one unfortunate incident where people saw the empty row (our allocated seats) and took it on themselves to claim it when we boarded last... and then we were the ones looking bad in the aisle while they moved back (I lt eas me, a five year ild and a six year old, so no, we werent accepting being separated on the flight when I had oaid for seats together)

TigerRag · Today 11:24

I'd rather queue and not have to wait in the aisle for people to stop faffing about and get to their seats

SquirrelRed · Today 11:25

You are either going to sit and wait there, or on the plane. Personally, I prefer to queue and be waiting on the plane rather than last on feeling like I'm squeezing past everyone and rushing to get my things sorted before take off.
Each to their own I guess, I don't understand why people feel like they have to take the mickey out of those who prefer to queue

They don't always do this, not on smaller flights than I've been on

That’s not on! I’m a waiter, don’t get the point of spending more time in a plane seat than necessary. But I would never expect to jump in when my travel companion had done the queueing!

SunnySunnyDayz · Today 11:29

I used to send dh on with the luggage and me and DC would wait til the last possible minute.

Neither of you are wrong. There's pros and cons to both.

Budget airlines have been kino wn to double book seats, happened to my friend just last month.

Yes or in a queue.

WhiskeyGinger · Today 11:29

It’s as broad as it’s long to me. Everyone is waiting to leave at the same time so it doesn’t really matter if you get on first and wait on the plane, wait in a queue or wait in a seat at the gate.

EverMissWicklowSometimes · Today 11:30

I'm a queuer, I just want to get on, get my bags stashed away and get settled. I usually book an aisle seat so it means I do have to get up and let others in, but I would still rather just get on the plane.

HoppingPavlova · Today 11:31

Completely depends on whether you have hand luggage for the overhead lockers or not. If I do, then I queue early, as otherwise they get full. If I don’t then I wait until the last of the queue is boarding and then get up.

Not all flights.

Harrietsaunt · Today 11:33

I like to get on board asap otherwise you can struggle to find space for cabin bag.

I would just get on when it suits me and let DH do the same. Doesn’t have to be a right and wrong to it.

hahabahbag · Today 11:33

Depends if you are taking on wheelie luggage. I don’t so I stay seated until the queue is down to 1 or 2 then walk on with my handbag, I check my luggage out of preference if I need more than a large handbag (under seat size)
