CF neighbour AIBU

AIBU?
Our general waste bin is collected every three weeks, and recycling every two weeks. It’s a relatively new system, and as a family of four, our black bin is always full by collection day.
Our black bin was collected last Tuesday, so we still have another two weeks to go before it’s emptied again.
Anyway, back to the AIBU bit. My CF neighbour put two black bin bags in our bin (one small and one large). Her bin is already full, so I think she’s having a clear-out.
I didn’t actually see her do it, but my neighbour from across the road, who I’m friends with, did.
I’m not sure whether I should say anything, but it’s really annoyed me. Am I being petty?
They’re elderly, so maybe she doesn’t want to go to the tip, but it also means we’ll probably have to make a trip to the tip ourselves now.

Why would you not say something?

Just dump the bags on their doorstep if you're too scared to have a conversation.

BMW58 · Yesterday 21:29

As she was seen doing it take them out of yours, put them on her doorstep and get yourself a bin lock ASAP

Bitzee · Yesterday 21:30

3 weekly bin collections?? 🤢 And you’re limited to only to only 1 bin!! Glad I don’t live where you do, that’s awful. But if your mate is absolutely certain and absolutely reliable then take them back to neighbours, put them on their doorstep and then get a lock or keep your bins somewhere where they can’t access them in future e.g. behind a locked gate.

Seawolves · Yesterday 21:30

Just take them out and give them back to her?

ConverselyAttired · Yesterday 21:31

Take them out and put them in their front garden.

Recycling is weekly here but black bins every 3 (we can put out 3 medium sized black bags). We rarely put out more than 2.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · Yesterday 21:32

You need to get rid of them. If she's killed someone and is disposing of the body and police find bits in your bin then you're going to have serious questions to answer.

SooPanda · Yesterday 21:32

Absolutely return them to the neighbours

It’s ridiculous, we have a food bin, collected every week, recycling every two, and black bin(general waste) every three.

If you’re going to run out of space yourselves, and there are definitely two bags that aren’t yours in the bin, I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just have a word and hand them back?

It wouldn’t bother me in the slightest, but we just don’t generate much bin waste, so even though our general waste collection is fortnightly, our bin is always 3/4 empty. Where we would struggle would be if someone was putting stuff in our recycling bin.

I think thats pretty normal? Our general waste is every 3 weeks, recycling on rotation weekly.

DaysIllRememberAllMyLife · Yesterday 21:37

Give it back to her. How cheeky

Mistymaglets · Yesterday 21:41

Haul them out and ring her doorbell.
" Sorry Margery we don't have enough space in our bin for your bin bags"

Krevlornswath · Yesterday 21:41

If it genuinely means you now need to go to the tip then absolutely I'd just take them out and put them back by their bin for them to deal with. If they knocked and complained I would tell them they were seen doing it and unfortunately it's not going to be possible to take extra bags, they need to make other arrangements.

Our (nice!) neighbours has knocked a couple of times asking if they could add a bag to our black bin if there's room and it's not an issue at all if there is but this is quite different.

SunnyRedSnail · Yesterday 21:44

I would go and speak to them and say you were just checking your CCTV and saw them put two bin bags in your bin, and could they please remove them.

You could then offer to take them to the tip for them if they paid petrol.

This is a good idea. We do have a Ring camera outside. It doesn’t show the bin, but they don’t need to know that. I don’t want to say it was my friend who saw them.
The elderly couple have lived around here for so long, and everyone loves them.
I think I’ll say, “If you keep the bags in your garden, we’ll take them with us the next time we do a tip run.”

Ok, if your bin is out in the street, ready for collection, let it slide but if your bin is still on your property. hell no!! Have a word.

Tollington · Yesterday 21:51

You need to confront them otherwise they will do it again. Take the bags out and put them next to their bin. If it continues, you can get a lock for a wheelie bin

At our previous house my neighbour put a carrier bag full of clippings in our garden waste which meant it didn’t get emptied. I dumped the bag outside her house

AggroPotato · Yesterday 21:55

They will do this again and again unless challenged. Just take them back and don't get involved in trying to solve their problem.

If they needed help they should have asked like reasonable people. They did not.

Dressfinder · Yesterday 21:56

Personally, I would dump the bags back in their garden.

BeenzManeenz · Yesterday 22:01

Id be furious! I've experienced something similar where somebody who didn't live in our small block of maisonettes came in to chuck a load of old blinds into our communal bins. I saw them do it, I simply took the blinds back round the corner and dumped them on the CF's doorstep.

These people will carry on doing it if you let them. Put your foot down now.

Is it??? We get everything taken weekly and no limits for how much you can put out except you can only do bulky stuff like a sofa 3 times a year. 3 weeks of rubbish in this heat is utterly disgusting. And must be really hard to manage the quantities hence this nonsense with the CF neighbour trying to use OP’s bins.

Wow, where's that? Not heard of weekly removals, or any free bulky removals, anywhere. Bet you have far less fly-tipping than we all do!

No way! I want to live where you do 😂 recycling is like a military operation. Glass. Paper. Plastic. Food. Keeping up with the different weeks also adds to my mental load!

DandelionClockSeeds · Yesterday 22:06

Two things: you need a gravity bin lock.

And, how on earth do you keep track of 2 weeks for one, and 3 weeks for the other? That would totally mess with my head. Some weeks one, some weeks other, some weeks both, some weeks none!! But yes, return the rubbish.
