Is this racism?

Basically I was at the pub in the pub and nobody was behind the bar.

I was first in line.

An elderly couple come and and then another man who slams his glass down.

When the bar lady asks "who is first"? I replied me.

The elderly couple say "we have been waiting ages".

And the man next says "I didn't see her".

I felt this was due to me being mixed race.
I felt quite intimidated.

I only popped in for a drink whilst OH has the kids.

I feel any shaken up as the only ethnic person in the place.

He just wanted to get served first. If it was a spoons you could all have sat down and ordered on the app.

I dunno, I reckon the OP may have asked the bartender to look at the cctv, but he probably told her to get over herself and grow up.

And informed her that managers and door staff are the only ones authorized to check it...

Indianajet · Yesterday 17:29

Is the heat getting to everyone? This sounds like a complete non-event.

TheGreatDownandOut · Yesterday 17:30

Are you actually joking? Assuming it was racist despite no evidence to suggest it was? Being ‘shaken up’?? Asking the bar staff to review CCTV Confused

Livpool · Yesterday 17:30

We don’t know if the others were/are racist. I am white and people (usually men!) do it all the time. I just say I was next and start giving my order.

IME it is more a sexist thing than anything else, although obviously different because I am white

I agree. I get sick of all the accusations of the UK being a racist country. Utter load of nonsense. Try moving to a few of the Eastern European countries, Bulgaria, Russia, Belarus etc, or America, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Finland Australia............. Live in one of them ^ for a year, and then come back and tell me that the UK is a racist country.

.

Edited

Are you white? Because if so, you're probably not best placed to know the extent of racism in the UK. Because stats only give crime reports, convictions etc, not the day to day experiences people have.
Its a bit like when a certain type of man claims there is no sexism against women because its illegal and because he has no idea what women actually experience.

ScrambledEggs12 · Yesterday 17:33

cooooola · Yesterday 13:18

I'm not really understanding the sarcasm here.
In the UK there is a lot of racism going on and there was no need for this.
I felt quite intimidated.

Very childish and unnecessary.

Obviously is a Wetherspoons, says it all really lol.
Im not even from round here and was popping in on the way back home.

Edited

I haven't queued in Wetherspoons for years, just order using the app.

cooooola · Yesterday 17:34

I have dual US citizenship actually.

I can honestly say hand on heart I have never experienced racism in the US, lived there many years until 2017.
They all seemed to love my accent.

I actually find the UK far more racist.

I have been to Canada, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, US, Mexico, Croatia, Cyprus, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia and it's the UK I find more racist.

Never seen anyone in the US paining the roundabouts or hanging flags on lamp posts lol.

I find Americans far more friendlier than people
in the UK. By far.

Sorry the UK is a racist country.
It has gotten worse in the last 5 years.

The same racists who call non white people all the names under the sun but then probably cheered when Jude Bellingham scored against Mexico on Monday 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

I was there first, simple.

The idiot next to me poked his big nose when it had nothing to do with him.

I was served first and asked them to review the CCTV.

Edited

There are rules and regulations.
Company CCTV can not be checked like home CCTV.

Are you elderly? Because I doubt you know how endemic Agism is. Are you pretty, because otherwise you have no idea the amount of pretty privelege that goes on. Do you have acne? I don’t think you realise how hard it is for acne sufferers to feel included. Do you suffer from female pattern hair loss? Because I don’t think k you’re being fair to all those with such crippling confidence shattered. Do you live as a short man trying to find a girlfriend? Because you don’t seem to realise that heightism is at an all time high.

we’re all humans. Get the f*ck on with it and stop guilt tripping every other bugger.

I hope you find inner peace one day and stop being so bigoted.

The problem is shouting racism over this it ends up like the boy who cried wolf and distracts from genuine racism

cooooola · Yesterday 17:43

@DeftPlumLurker I'm not honestly.
I am just describing the experiences I have had.

I am half white by the way and have even experienced racism within my own family.

This. The desperation (from some) to paint the UK as a racist country really pisses me right off. It's becoming like white noise now though, because so many examples of racism are brought up that are clearly not racism.

As I said, some people will climb to the top of Mount Everest and back down again to try and find a reason to be offended, and a problem where there isn't one. it must be very exhausting and frustrating being so offended ALL THE TIME. 🙄

And now of course, the OP is claiming that she has been to LOADS of other countries, and the people are sooooooooo much nicer.

@cooooola Tell me you wanted to create a UK bashing thread without telling me you wanted to create a UK bashing thread. 😴

I'm out. CBA.

Have you ever experienced straight up dislike of you? Or was it always just racist bigotry?

was your mum fed up of your whining, or was she a racist bigot?

were you rude, obstructive, and dim witted, or were you perfect and your family were racist?

“Other places are worse” is always a shit argument.

The UK certainly has a tonne of racists as the comments under any UK news article show.

Bellingham is the golden boy at the moment but even Khan has recently called out the amount of racism the non-white English football players have faced online.

So yes other places are certainly worse.

So?

(I will say though I lived in Australia and certainly did not find it any worse than the UK in terms of racism.)

cooooola · Yesterday 17:55

@JHound - Yes the Daily Mail is a prime example of this.

Every time there is a an article published about a non white person there will be hundreds of awful racist comments and a lot of green arrows to support this.

I remember when that Air India crashed and there was 1 survivor, I remember reading such awful comments.

I didn't back down and got served first and stared them and the man out to show I wasn't being intimidated

In your original post you said you were intimidated and shaken up. You got over it quickly if you were squaring up to them, out-argued them to actually get served first and asked the barman to look at the cctv!

Sky News had a recent TV piece and they went to a local area and asked a bunch of young school kids how they managed to sneak and stay up late to watch the game. Dunno where in London they were but all the children were black (there were about 4 or 5 spoken to).

The comments were an absolute shit show.

It’s true, no short young men are suffering emotional pain from heightism. Only poc can suffer from discrimination.

if you refuse to date someone because they are a poc, that’s an abomination.

if you refuse to date someone because of their height, that’s fine.

you seem To know what you’re talking about. In upside down land.

JHound · Yesterday 18:00

I will say the story in OP clearly does not appear to have occurred given how often it is changing.
